Is Marquinhos set to be Arsenal’s new centre-back?

Arsenal have been on the hunt for a top quality centre back to partner Laurent Koscielny in the centre of defence for a number of years now, but have largely been unsuccessful. Chambers showed much promise but is still young, whilst Gabriel has largely failed to adapt to the Premier League. Arsenal’s hunt could soon come to an end however, with the Gunners reportedly interested in PSG’s Marquinhos, according to the players brother anyway.

Speaking to the media, Marquinhos’ brother Luan said: ‘Marquinhos has always been exemplary with the club, he never complained. Yet he has often been a spectator at major matches. Our patience has limits. We love the club, the fans, but they also must show us a minimum of consideration or he will have to leave PSG.’

Marquinhos who was a major investment for PSG from AS ROMA back in 2013 has largely found himself stuck behind David Luiz and Thiago Silva at the French club, although he has managed to still make 75 league appearances over the course of 3 years. Marquinhos however isn’t deemed to be a starter of most matches at PSG, especially not in major games, with the Ligue 1 champions instead trusting a partnership of Luiz and Silva. Marquinhos’s frustrations have therefore understandably shown and he is now considering if his future lies elsewhere.

Marquinhos isn’t your most conventional defender and as we see with a lot of South American defenders, they seem to love to break forward rather than stick to their defensive duties. However arguably the Brazilian would still be a big improvement to some of the other defenders we have at Arsenal. With the player wanting to leave, this may be Arsenal’s opportunity to nab the player for a cheaper price, but he is still expected to cost a fair bit. Wages are also another obstacle, with the 22 year old set to be on big bucks at PSG.

Arsenal would have course have to fight off interest from elsewhere, but should the Gunners be looking at this promising centre back?

  1. Our transfer has ended for the Summer bro
Let’s start talking what formation to use for the Liverpool game instead

    1. I suppose quite a few people are unhappy with you comments because they don’t want to believe what you are saying, ie we’ll not get anybody else this window. But you are right. I (like many other people) have been saying it since the last season finished. Much as I dream about all the possible exciting additions to the team, it would be naive to trust Wenger-Speak (saying what he doesn’t mean), since it won’t happen. Mind you even if we are just fantasising why do we always mention player, he has to be playing in the French Leagues (if he is also French so much the better). Is it right that we seemed to be negligent about talents elsewhere? By the way while I was typing this message Mourinio probably bought another quality player to him squad. Where are you Mr Wenger?

      1. I think there is a decent chance Arsene waits for a bargain on the last day and if it goes through great, if it doesn’t he can say he tried but couldn’t get they players he was looking for or something about no one being available blah blah blah.
