Is Clement Grenier back on the cards? by Ash
Arsenal are well known to have their fair share of linked players in every transfer window and generally the case is we don’t sign any of them in the end, however in the rare occurrence we do, we have to question why there has been so many months of speculation.
One name that keeps popping up every year, aside from the promised Cesc Fabregas return from Barcelona one day, is former Chelsea forward and now Ligue 1 Lille player Saloman Kalou. Another is Yann M’Vila, who I’m sure after many months of debating, was a complete shock when it came to the final day and we were still without the French midfielder. However this time around it’s a different Frenchman in the centre of midfield, and Clement Grenier is a more than familiar name to the ears of Arsenal fans.
Grenier was linked persistently throughout the summer, however unsurprisingly; come the end of the summer, there was no Grenier to be seen at the Emirates Stadium. But now in another turn of events, national newspaper the Daily Mirror is reporting that a deal for Grenier could be back on the cards for Arsenal.
I personally haven’t seen too much of Grenier myself, however from what I’ve heard he is a good midfielder that has all the qualities you’d want in order to fit the Arsenal style of play. His performances in France have certainly put the media spotlight on him and the fact there are also a supposed few other European clubs on his tail, shows that Arsenal are certainly looking at a top talent, if the reports are true.
However I fear that Arsenal have too many midfielders as it is and although he may offer something different in his own respects, I think that there are other key areas that need to be strengthened first and for the reported £10-12 million price tag his is reported to have, I think Wenger should be looking elsewhere, if the rumours turn out to be the truth.
Grenier often plays on the left, but can operate in the right as well. These are both positions that Arsenal need to strengthen, so is the young Frenchman a good target for the Gunners in January?
