Is this goodbye to Arsenal for Jenkinson?

I have to say that I feel for the on loan Arsenal right back Carl Jenkinson. The boyhood Arsenal fan took the decision to join Premier League club West Ham this season in order to get the playing time that he has largely been denied in the past.

And it worked out for the defender in one way, as he has cemented a place in the West Ham first team and been a very influential figure for them this season. But it must have been frustrating for Jenks to see our summer signing Mathieu Debuchy pick up a long term injury and then for Calum Chambers and Hector Bellerin to get the opportunites that he would have loved.

And those opportunities have seen our young Spaniard from the academy really blossom and prove himself worthy of a place in the Arsenal team, while Chambers has also impressed and has the added bonus of his versatility. A quick comparison between the three on Squawka.com shows that Jenkinson has more assists and chances created than Bellerin and Chambers but has also played a lot more.

The stats also suggest that he would struggle to get a game for Arsenal now, especially once Debuchy is fit again. Even Chambers is struggling to oust the speedy Spanish defender and so when Chanbers got the nod ahead of Jenkinson for the England under 21s last night and provided the assist for the only goal of the game, it may well have been the final word for Jenkinson and his Arsenal career.

Do you expect him to leave the club he loves this summer?

  1. With a few more competitive games, I can see Bellerin turns to be far better than them all, if not he is already. Regarding Calum Chambers, people speak about CB as his best possible position, I think he is too rusty and slow to develop on this position, I would like Wenger to give him more chances in the midfield “DM”, he has the eyes for pass and not bad aggressiveness … Till now he needs to work hard to justify his price tag “16m isn’t his fault I know” but you never know he might turn a very good asset …

  2. Debuchy is really a very good acquisition, he gives us stability defensively “playing RB+CB” good tackler and good header … I watch most of WestHam games, Jenkinson does improve a bid but his he needs to work on his decision making as he gets disturbed under pressure “I think eventually he will be sold to WestHam maybe with a buy-back clause”

  3. Both West Ham fullbacks, Cresswell and Jenkinson has been peach for them. I hope he is given the chance.

But not everyone makes the grade required but he looks business to me. Just wait and hope for the best.

  4. bellerin is better than jenks I still hope theo stays with us wouldn’t make sense to let him go now & buy another kid develop him & the whole cycle to continue keep theo + add reus he can also play as a striker

  6. I want him to stay

Calum hasn’t convinced me Yet in regards to RB. I think he should concentrate on CB and DM. Arsenal paid £16 million and so we should get the best our of him. He started out as Midfielder for Southampton then moved to defense. Maybe he could develop into a good DM or CB.

I think Jenkison should be given a chance at RB behind Debuchy and Bellerin

If he is sold, I hope we get good money for him (£10 million or more) and that money used for perhaps a back up LB. But again I want him to stay. I like Jenkison a lot.

  7. If he comes back, he’ll still be second to Debuchy when at West Ham, he’s getting consistent playing time. Jenks is young so maybe he’ll return but with the thought of going back on the bench? I don’t know…

  8. Keep Bellerin and Jenkinson, they are the future, let them fight it out for the next 10 years.. Barcelona might come back with their usual Barca DNA bull crap…

I rate jenkinson highly and sending him out on loan for the next few seasons won’t lose us anything until Debuchey’s old age comes into effect.

  9. He’s 23 and should be playing 1st team football, I suggest he should be sold as both bellerin and debuchy are better than him

  10. I just hope that Bellerin isnt going to be one of those players who goes running when Barca calls. I believe that Barca will come calling for him one day so hopefully well keep extending five year contract after each season. Jenkinson… id like if we maybe tried utilising him as CB, he looks to have necessary tools.

  11. I just can’t understand how people rate our current rbs so high. Since Sagna left we have been aching at this position. Barcelona is going to come for Bellerin? As if he is among the best rbs in the world? Just take a look at Real Madrid’s rb and you will see what I’m talking about…
