It’s a trophy! Wenger must play strong Arsenal XI in Carabao Cup

Okay so the Carabao Cup (which is the latest name for the league cup which has had more names than I care to remember over the years) is not the biggest prize on offer and it will certainly be the lowest priority for Arsenal this season, although I am not sure that is the right way to look at things.

From now on Arsene Wenger can probably afford to take it way with our big players in the Europa League as we are all but through. It will probably be a different story after christmas when the knockout stages come around but for now the job is pretty much done.

That would be a great trophy for the Gunners to win but any trophy is a bonus and one that we have as much or more chance than any is the Carabao Cup, so with Wenger having spoken about having a selection headache with so many fit attacking players available I do not see why we should not put out a strong side against Norwich City.

Liverpool are already out and there will be more Premier League sides going out this week and perhaps even some big ones as the likes of Man United, Tottenham, Chelsea and Man City have the Champions League to worry about and may play very weakened teams.

Let’s not mess about against an in form Norwich City tonight eh? Do you think Wenger should select a strong Arsenal line-up for this cup clash, as there is the small matter of silverware to be won?

  1. No Bob, I’m happy with the lineup you posted in the previous article to this except Nelson should not be LWB but further forward in his usual u23 position.

  2. No. Wenger should play a strong enough team to win. We have quite a few injuries. Some of our best players need rest.

It would be nice to win this trophy but we still need to prioritize Europa, Premier League and FA Cup over it.

We need to play our young players and a handful of experienced players

We should play players like Nelson, Macey, Niles, Adelaide, Wilock Akpom etc and add a few more experienced players like Chambers, Mertsacker, Iwobi etc

    1. If we get through to the semis or even quarters and get drawn against a Man City or Man United we should play a strong line up with only couple of fringe players from Chambers, Holding, Elneny, Wilshere, etc and couple of youth players on the bench (Nelson, Maitland-Niles, Nketiah, etc)!

We can’t afford to get smashed and would be great getting one over them and add the League Cup to our trophy cabinet.

  3. Well he can select 6 full internationals
Debuchy, elneny, wilshire, walcott, giroud and iwobi
Plus 3 under 21 internationals in holding. Niles and coquelin as well as 2 promising players in macey and Nelson
That x1 should be able to deal with a championship side.

  4. Isn’t this one of those sites that complain about the fact that winning the FA Cup isn’t good enough. But now here you are moaning that we should be doing our best to win a mickey mouse trophy. make your minds up!

    1. Umm Goonermikey, not everyone has the same opinion – especially on here if you read the articles and comments!

  5. Guess we will play a very similar/same team as against Red Star last week.

Would love to see Nelson further forward though and also get another glimpse of Dasilva. Dasilva would be more suited than Maitland-Niles at left wing and bring better balance… This won’t happen though as Wenger is stubborn and insisting on Walcott and Maitland-Niles in those positions. I would love to see Maitland-Niles in CM as actually believe he could be very good there…

Team from last week should be enough and hope Holding will play with more confidence and Wilshere to dominate as he is so able to do.

    Go Gunners!!!
