Jack Wilshere must start thinking about his Arsenal future soon

Jack Wilshere has been at Arsenal since he was a young boy, but after many years of injury problems he has finally taken the plunge and moved to lowly Bournemouth to try and regain his match fitness and the form he showed for Arsenal as a youngster.

This weekend was a big milestone in that recover as he finally managed to stay on the pitch for the whole 90 minutes for the first time, and after the game Jamie Redknapp praised his performance, but also gave the opinion that he thought Wilshere’s Arsenal career was over and he should stay away or risk returning to the Gunners bench next season. “I don’t know where he got that from,” Wilshere responded. “I’ve not really thought about that so how other people can comment on it…listen, he’s entitled to his opinion.

“If he doesn’t see me going back to Arsenal then that’s up to him but I haven’t thought about that.”

Wilshere insisted that all he is thinking about is getting his fitness back, and he feels he is making progress. “It’s a long time not to play 90 minutes and when you play game by game you start to get your confidence back and try more things,” Wilshere continued.

“I feel like I’m getting my first five yards of power back and when I have that I can do more things with the ball. I’m not saying I am there yet but I’m feeling better and better.”

Another thing he is not thinking about yet is his return to the England team, where he was once hailed as the future saviour of his country’s senior team. “No I’m not really thinking about England,” Wilshere insisted.

“I think I have got to concentrate on myself, playing here, playing 90 minutes and getting back to my best and then I can start thinking about that.”

Of course Jack is right not to get too far ahead of himself, but we have to be mindful of thefact that his Arsenal contract runs out at the end of this season, and if Wenger really believes thathe wants Wilshere to come back next season then he will have to start talking to Jack soon. In about six weeks time the 24 year-old will be free to be approached by other clubs regarding a summer move. And that will certainly give Jack, and Wenger, something to think about!

  1. I’m not really convinced about Jack. Being on the pitch for 90mins is different from being “active” on the pitch for 90mins and making an impact! The end of the season will give us a better picture of who he is and what he’s capable of.

    1. The end of the season will be too late for contract talks. He will become like a new signing without the transfer fee, and so can demand much higher wages if he has a good season at B’Mouth
