Koscielny confirms he is ready to face Chelsea

Arsenal have been playing with Mohamed Elneny in the back three on tour due to Holding and Chambers taking an extended break, and Gabriel was left in London having treatment. Then Laurent Koscielny sustained a back injury in training, leaving only Bielik, Monreal and Per Mertesacker as our only central defenders until the Big German went down with a bug before the Bayern Munich game.

But now Koscielny has announced that he ready to face Antonio Conte’s team, who we beat in the FA Cup Final in their last game. Laurent said: “My back is better,”

“I had a little pain one morning, so I had treatment over the past two days. Today I trained and was OK. Not 100 per cent, but I’m OK for playing. We will see tomorrow.

“We have worked well during this tour of Australia and China. We worked well physically, technically and tactically, and we have some friendly games to show what we’ve learned during our sessions.

“The game [against Chelsea] is for this and we want to win because a win here would give us the confidence we need to play with freedom. I hope all our players are focused on the new season because we need to play to win our first game.”

Having won 10 of last 11 games in the League, culminating in our FA Cup success, another win against the Premier League Champions can only confirm we are in confident mood for the start of the season, and we will have more chance with Koscielny back in the heart of the defence.

Come on you Gunners! Onwards and Upwards!

  1. Isn’t he suspended for another game or 2(red card) in the start od the season? Would prefare someone else gets to practice bossing 3 in the back..

Also his tendon might use some more rest probably

  2. All we need is to set our armunitions towards chelsea and fire them with our cannon on saturday…COYG

  3. Great news! Always nice to see Kos on the pitch doing his thing…here is hoping he has a better season than last…

  4. Though it is good to have Koscieny fit. I don’t place too much importance on a friendly match against Chelsea. Not much on the community shield. Our first main game against them will d EPL match. We should be out to make a serious statement this season.

    1. But why are PSG having contact with our player when no bid has been accepted from the club. Seems that it is only arsenal that clubs can forrkk with. We need some tough people to run our club not some paperbag directors

  5. This friendly doesn’t mean too much so it’s best not to risk him if he isn’t 100% fit. In other news, Those chinese chicks gave our boys food poisoning. Even our bosnian hulk was rendered helpless lol. Beating them tomorrow and in the community shield won’t mean absolutely squat. We need to beat them at stamford bridge this year because that is the only place we haven’t beaten them in ages.

    1. As long as they offer us good money selling him, Conte would be wanting young British talents in his squad which is made up of mostly overseas stars, he has sent out on loan or sold his young british talents. Now the reason why Chelsea’s young talent have gone on loan or left the club is because they are not getting any game time.

Now if Ox and his agent have not read what is going on at Chelsea i wish them the best, one decent season does not give you the right to ask for a massive raise, when you have been injury prone and inconsistent performer over the years.

In the contract demands, take the contract, give arsenal a decent season and come back next season and ask for an improved contract.

Otherwise, let him go and promote another youngster or find an able replacement in the championship, many players in that league just needs the opportunnity

  6. I consider Koscielny to be an Arsenal great
It’s great that Koscielny replaced Senderos who left same summer. Senderos and Koscielny completely different in quality.

I would love to see Koscielny and Mertsacker win the PL this season. Mertsacker last season and Koscielny has been a great CB for 7 seasons. He deserves more than 3 FA Cups (which I am very proud of) but Koscielny is WC and would be nice to see his loyalty rewarded

    1. He really improved from 2013/14.That’s where his greatness started. Before that season he was inconsistent and at times useless though he had some very good games in between his first season to 13/14.He’s an example of Arsene Wenger’s patience that paid off.I don’t know how Wenger does it as he sees players who look useless differently. He’s now become world class. The problem with Arsenal is that we lack a leader and someone to look up to.Kos is just not that man and Mertesacker hardly plays.Having the right choice of captain is very important. It’s one that we’ve not taken seriously for a while.

    1. I’m getting annoyed with so many ppl thinking players like mahrez or rafinha are good enough for arsenal we need to aim a lot higher if we don’t want to get swollowed by bigger teams it’s time wenger makes a choice on wether we are gonna do what spurs did and build a younger team with lemar goretzka or kieta and try to out run n out pace teams or spend big big money on world class players which I know he won’t coz mahrez is not world class and we ain’t got CL football anyway! It’s make or break for arsenal bcoz we could of sacked wenger and got a new manager who could of cleaned out the squad and made his own team with all these players contracts coming to an end it was defo the right time! So wenger has to get it right! Me personally would like to get the best young players around and offer them first team football and in 2/3 years we could have the amazing team I like the look of joe willock, nelson, bramall and bielik and want wenger to give them game time I think there ready and iwobi is looking like our best player with alexis out the team!

      1. Wen need to get rid of Walcott coz he can’t pass or control the ball and would not get into any top team and get rid of chambers bcoz he’s to slow and ain’t quite at the level as the other youngsters!

        1. Dalinho – idont like sayin it but theo is predictable and is lacking when it comes to consistency. He enjoys all the perks of playin for north london but cannot ever be considered world class. Arsenal’s strikers have to be super efficient or world class or combination of both these qualities – sorry but theo is short of arsenal’s usual high standard and is out shadowed by harrry kane – im not used to spurs offence outshining arsenal so ridding theo will change the team dynamic for the better.

  7. Anyone here given thought as to who from this team can be a “vicecaptain” following mertesakker retirement plan? Ramsey or Cech or the longshot coquelin (perhaps). Im concerned there’s hardly any concern over the question of leadership as we go into the next campaign. 2017/18 season will need character and will power: the likes of which has not been seen in a very long time – failure isnt an option.

    1. I’d love holding to be a future captain but as it stands arsenal don’t really have a captain like character! Maybe cech?

    2. Granit Xhaka or maybe Cech should be the vice captain. Granit was the captain of his club in germany and is one of the captains of switzerland and then you got cech who has won everything so his knowledge, experience and wisdom makes him a good candidate.

      1. Cech is prob the best choice – my only reservation with him is that being in goal has never been the best place to man manage or drive a team forward and on to football success. In fact i would struggle to think of a team using that (approach) as part of a recipe for a winning team. Other than Buffon in italy maybe but captaincy responsibility is better served by outfield players – and not goalkeepers.
