La Liga side desperate to sign Arsenal striker but face tough competition

Arsenal may have an abundance of out-of-favour players that we are trying to get buyers for and finding the going hard, but if there is one departure that we can be certain will happen is the sale of Lucas Perez. The Spaniard has made no secret of his desire to move back to his old club Deportivo La Coruña, and according to the La Liga side’s president Tino Fernandez they are still definitely in with a shout of succeeding.

Fernandez said: “Nothing is impossible but we have a limit.

“I never mention figures but we have done all that Deportivo can, even making a big effort because of the importance that I believe Lucas can have in this team next season.

“This is a very difficult negotiation but if I didn’t think there was a chance I would say so.

“If we are still in the race it’s because we believe there is a possibility.

“We will continue to fight because the truth is that Perez is looking forward to joining us.”

Having said that, he also warned that he wanted a deal done quickly as the season is close to starting. He said: “We can’t wait much more.

“We are also looking at other options as we have to take decisions because we are in the month of August and that is an important position.

“If he comes, he will have to captain the team with goals, assists and win games.”

But there is real competition from Newcastles Rafael Benitez, who has admitted that he spoke to Arsene Wenger personally about the possible transfer. Benitez said: “I was talking with Arsene yesterday because we had the manager’s meeting and I said ‘Listen, we have to talk”

“He said ‘Listen, you have some money?’ – I like the player but it’s too soon to talk about that.”

So at least we have some real interest in one of our outgoing players, but how on earth are we going to get rid of the rest?

  1. Perez is a talented player who has always contributed when played but Wenger just doesnt rate him 4 some unknown reason.

  2. reduce to clear, loan important squad players for the future. I predict a premier league trophy this term against all odds.

  3. I still want to see Him play in the league but wouldn’t be happy if he performs or score an important goal against us hence he should move back to his old club.

All the best Lucas. I won’t forget your hat trick in a champions league game last season in a hurry

    1. I’m not certain how it would play out but it would have been interesting to see Perez playing in a front 3 with Sanchez and Lacazette, with Perez on the right, but in order to do that we would need a true defensive midfielder so that we could still have Ozil in the middle, playing behind the front 3, and Sead and Ox/Bellerin taking turns making wide side runs…unfortunately Wenger has made sure that could never happen because it would require buying the proper back 3 to handle this situation and he would have to bench his beloved Walcott and Ramsey on a regular basis…like I said before, I’m very concerned that Wenger will play Lacazette out wide on the left with Giroud in the middle, which means Sead will likely be in the back 3 and Ox will be played in the left wing-back position, which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever…God, I hope I’m wrong

  4. Since Wenger don’t want this guy let him just accept whatever Deportivo wants which I believe should at least be up to 10m at least for the sake of trimming the squad…

Imo though, I think Perez will be useful in the new formation as he can fill in the Ozil role in Europa league games, but apparently, we have a very heavy as it it so we have to move some players on…

  5. He needs to be sold, simple as that. It’s better to cut your losses rather than keeping an unhappy player who probably won’t see a single minute of playing time. Same goes for Gibbs, Debuchy, and a few others. Free up some wages, bring another quality addition in, and we’re good to go.

    1. You’re right Vlad. But, even though you are, I think it’s a shame. I believe that Lucas is a better player than Welbeck or even Giroud and not letting him play has been a mistake.

  6. We might not get top $ for our deadwood, but surely it is better to take the hit, free up space and wages and reinvest even if in some younger players in their early 20’s.

Not academy prospects, but players that will be pushing for a starting spot in a year or so.

  7. if the players prospective move to another club has stalled we need look no further than his agent who’ll probably be happy being paid while the move is in limbo. even his agent Rodrigo Fernandez Lovelle said “Lucas wants to leave at all costs and is not happy at Arsenal..” he added “No matter who is the manager in the future, we want to go. The player must have the chance to play.” ends quote.

*this was the situation back in february, so why’s the player still here. maybe he needs to change advisor (….) as for sympathy, if he doesn’t want to play for this club he gets none from me.

  8. i dont know anything about blog advertisements
but why does ‘just arsenal’ show links of sex medicines and 62 rare human conditions in india

  9. Promo! Promo! Promo!
    Deadwoods clearance sales
    Hurry while offer lasts
    Closing Date: August 31, 2017

  10. Lucas Perez and “dead woods” issue is fast becoming a recurring decimal and another Sanchez on this site. His old club, Newcastle or any club from whatever country should please come forth and drive him and colleagues off Emirates, in fact off London fast.

As much as we need to free up space and wages in the team, we also need to free up space on Just Arsenal “justarsenal.com” for better and more relevant news and discussions. We need to concentrate on what moves us forward as fans and ultimately as Arsenal ?☺️?.

“Deadwoods”, please leave! Enough of the parasitic relationship. Whilst we appreciate your contributions in getting us to this non-enviable position, we are tired of seeing your faces as we seek new challenge and indeed new position …….. Don’t you get it?! ? ? ?

  11. There must be a bigger financial reason why Wenger hasn’t sold Gibbs, Debuchy, Jenkinson, Wilshere, Lucas, Akpom yet.

I can’t figure this out really

Freeing up wages and making a few £s from transfer fees is a good thing. No?
