Leicester v Arsenal Match Preview, Line-up & Score Prediction – Holiday mode?

Arsenal make the trip up to the King Power Stadium this evening to take on Leicester City, although there is little left to play for.

Tonight’s opponents have looked as if their minds have been on holiday for well over a month now, picking up just the one point in their last five matches, conceding seven goals without reply in their last two league outings.

We have had some fair form in recent months however, apart from in matches where we have rested players due to Europa League participation, but now that has ended we have little to play for, apart from the fans and for our long-standing departing manager,

We will be without Mesut Ozil, Mo Elneny and Laurent Koscielny for tonight’s outing, as we look to give our fans a nice end to the campaign, while also trying out our new system of Aubameyang and Lacazette in the same XI.

Predicted XI:

Ospina
Bellerin  Mustafi  Mavropanos  Monreal
Xhaka  Ramsey
Mkhitaryan  Wilshere  Aubameyang
Lacazette

With the Foxes seemingly uninterested in the remainder of their campaign, I am very confident of running riot tonight, scoring at least three goals in the process, and continuing the long send-off for Arsene Wenger with another comfortable win.

I’ll be going for a 4-1 win tonight, despite knowing that we are yet to pick up a single point away from home in 2018, and I will proverbially eat my own hat if that stat stays relevant beyond tonight’s match-up.

Are any of you worried we will continue our struggles away from home tonight? Predictions?

  1. 3-1 to Leicester, but hopefully we can do something. Fantastic display against Burnley, and it would be great to win the last two in style for Wenger.

        1. 16/1 for Lei 0 – 3 Ars

          Leicester’s last five results
          Home to WHam, L 0 -2
          Away to Palace, L 5 – 0
          Home to Southampton, D 0 – 0
          Away to Burnley, L 2 – 1
          Home to Newcastle, L 1 – 2

Leicester are on the beach lads. Our players are trying to get into good graces with the new head coach.
You could try a safe/clever bet and win a small few quid.
Or you could put 10 or 20 quid on each of 3 4 and 5 nil scorelines, hoping for one of them to come good. I do that with some Barcelona and Madrid games, and I’ve won a fair few over the years all same.

I’m hoping Chambers and Mavrapanos play tonight, with Niles in Midfield too. Come on you Gunners, I’ve got you backed, now you back me lads ..please!!

          1. Well that was a load of bollocks.
Mavrapanos did not deserve red, and I can’t believe we just let Leic head that ball back into our box without a challenge on the player.

    1. I agree now that the pressure is off and Ozil is not playing we should be able to win.

  2. To me it makes no sense at all to play Mustafi when both Chambers and Mavropanos are fit. THEY HAVE BEEN THE SHINING LIGHT IN OUR LAST FEW GAMES, AS IT WAS SO UNEXPECTED TO SEE YOUNG CB’S ACTUALLY DEFEND WITHOUT CONSTANT MISTAKES, a la Mustafi trademark. Mustafi is a walking -or rather a late stumbling, disaster – and I for one would be thrilled if he leaves our club for ever this summer. Better still TODAY! Yes he is relatively young but in case you have never noticed it Pat J, something called ability and talent is a rather important “detail” when choosing Arsenal players. I would EVEN rather have MERTS, INSTEAD, STAY ON IF IT STOPPED MUSTAFI FROM PLAYING. And I would even prefer his alter ego, NELSON’S COLUMN, TO MERTS. Nelsons column moves faster and turns quicker. We have to bin all the useless and finished by injury CB’s ASAP. Not play the most useless of all in front of our two most promising young CB’s. I do realise Pat, your eleven was a predicted eleven, which may not be your personal choice. If you would also have rather left Mustafi out, then I apologise. But your post is unclear on this.

    1. if Chamber and Mavropanos are showing form….we may not need to sign a centreback

Mustafic and Holding can be the 3rd and 4th choice….or unless we sell 1 and sign another…

we can use the funds to sign a quality Gk and DM instead since we are only allocated 50m….

      1. why believe the 50mill rumor immediately? Wasn’t there a 200mill rumor this week, and more recently a 120mill? Maybe nobody in media knows our budget. I think that is the most likely scenario.

        1. 200m is definitely impossible

more likely is 50m to 100m mark

If Chambers and Mavropanos can maintain their form and

say 70m is given we can use it wisely for a quality DM and GK…..we will be good for top 3

        1. Just want to remind everyone that Gazidis said money was not a problem and the manager could sign any player he wanted.
If we are to keep a check on these board members, then let’s be vigilant and hold them to their words.
We have been lied to by this board and owner before and they don’t have anyone to hide behind at the present moment.
I totally agree that the two centre backs from Sunday deserve to keep their places and expect us to win this game. Not to have won one premier league game away fromhome is a disgrace and the players must now step up to the mark.

          1. Well ken1945
I don’t trust gazidis and I remember those words very well
Only time will tell now if AW did or didn’t have the cash to splash
Don’t get me wrong which leads me to job fox summaries of our cb
AW wasted 30 plus on Mustafi  and installed him as our cb. He has a major mistake in him every game but the prob with this is who the hell is nuts enough to pay a transfer fee for him and also pay the decent wages he is on….if we are stuck with him (like many others) the hopefully the new man will show them how to defend

            1. A.ball08,
Glad your on the ball (no pun intended) as well my friend regarding things that were being said in the past.
As far as Mustafi is concerned, in my humble opinion, he is a disaster waiting to implode on the team.
There are so many examples, but the cup final first goal against City sums him up completely.
Could anyone see Adams. Bould, Keown, Sol or even Senderos allowing that to happen?
He came to us as a fully fledged German International however, and, hindsight is a wonderful thing.
His arrival was met with excitement by the fans and the fee was of little consequence.
How he has let everyone down.
I believe that, if Kos had been 100% fit, the manager would have dropped Mustafi and taken a chance on one of the youngsters.
I think that was the reason Mavo was not sent out on loan.
It will be interesting to see what happens next season anyway.

              1. I remember one time Gazidas had just gotten through saying how Arsenal were going to go for all the best players and there will be only two players on the planet that will be out of reach. I felt in great mood, but then watched as we couldn’t scrounge up an extra twenty grand to pull off the Arshavin deal, the lad was hanging around London in the freezing cold and almost not signed over twenty grand.

    1. GRANDAD, YOU AND I ARE AMONG THOSE WELCOME FEW WHO ALWAYS CUT TO THE CHASE. It is so irritating when some folk propose to keep proven failures around in the vain hope that a new coach can improve them. Mustafi, Xhaka, Elneny and several more have no hope of ever being good enough at our level. They just do not have the speed, mobility, artistry, balance and judgement of situations. The only sensible way is to replace them ASAP and get the duds out of our club.

      1. Jon I do agree with you but Elneny just signed a contract so will probably stay as a squad player. And I am pretty sure the powers that be will at least push the new manager to try Mustafi and Xhaka. Although they have been below average to say the least at Arsenal. Mustafi played pretty much every game in Germany’s world cup winning team and Xhaka was a pretty decent player before he got here. Can a new manager get them to play their pre-Arsenal ball? Maybe, maybe not. Although to be fair I would rather see them go and get 40M or so for the both of them.
We have huge squad changes coming. Santi, Per, Kos are done. Monreal is going to be 33 next year. Jack and Ramsey are question marks. Ospina is probably leaving, all our on loan players, Martinez, Jenkinson, Asano, Campbell,Perez and Akpom should be leaving this summer as well.
That’s quite a few bodies leaving. Hopefully we will offer a decent contract to Ramsey and keep him.
I think it will take more than one transfer window to overhaul the team, and the new man will need to make his own assessments. Who could have foreseen Victor Moses turning into an excellent wingback under Conte?

        1. \arsene is out,
Your final point regarding Moses is a perfect example of trying players in other positions outside of their comfort zones.
Some wonderful gems have been found, just take Henry as an example.
That’s why every club should look to stretch their proven footballing youngsters at different positions, just have we have done at Arsenal.
It’s amazing when someone like you actually takes the time to list players on loan, at end of contracts, getting older or just plain past it.
I might not agree with all of your player evaluations, but thanks for making me think about the situation a little more.
We will have to be patient with the new manager/coach but I do hope we keep Ramsey plus Elneny signing new contract strengthens our squad.

  3. OT, RUMOUR MILL: 22M for leno is a steal, I pray it’s true but I’ve been disappointed before but honestly if that’s our first signing post Arsene, then I’m all for the 3-man management system arsenal are trying to implement. 3 credible footballing brains arguing about how the team should operate can only be good for the team IMO. Everyone else at Arsenal was either non existent, silent or just didn’t care enough to object Arsene. silinstat, selahi and Buvac are much better than the idea of Rodgers, Arteta or even Viera thinking they can take the club further.

Leno, a good CB or two and a midfielder. And we should be able to pip Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool for 3rd/4th. Ideally if some young players break through we could challenge the Manchester clubs in a few seasons. Exciting times nonetheless

    1. With Leno we are covering a glaring hole for 22M, that’s incredible value in today’s market. Leaving us hopefully with a bit more cash for DM and CB signings.
I cant see us signing two CBs in the same window but even getting a single top quality one to play next to one of Mavros or Chambers should be good enough.
On the DM front we simply need the best available in this transfer window. It is the single most crucial transfer we will be making in this window, we have to go for the best available in the market. We need to find the next Viera Now.

      1. He’s Germany’s third or fourth choice though.
No1 is Neuer – No2 is either Trapp or Ter Stegen, – No3.

        No 4 is B. Leno
What’s the odds a national team will have more than one world class goalkeeper, or maybe having two, But what the hell are the odds that one nation has enough top goalkeepers to fill four of Europe’s biggest clubs.
I’ll be honest, I don’t know anything about this keeper besides his name and nationality. His nationality is a plus, but is he good enough when there are nations out there with No1’s who would love to play at the Emirates. I’d like to hear from someone who did actually follow this lad and knew of his abilities before we even got linked with him.

  4. Why would Wenger try a new system? He is as good as gone

Maybe he just wants to have fun and give more opportunities to the fringe/ young players

  5. To clarify my reference to 8/9 others includes many who are currently out on loan e.g. Jenkinson,Campbell etc.

  6. Wenger should use the same squad that destroyed burnley last weekend, then we can comfortably win tonight’s game. Especially Chambers and Mavrapanos. That combination is awesome. Even though we have not won or drew away this year, I can see nothing but victory for us today at the king power. My prediction is Leicester 1 vs Arsenal 5.
