Liverpool v Arsenal Player Ratings – Santi best of bad bunch

Liverpool 2 – 2 Arsenal Player Ratings by KJ

Szczesny – 7
Made some really good saves, was commanding but did have a bit of a brain fart that could’ve cost us but fortunately it didn’t.

Chambers – 5
Very rigid performance. I do worry about him in big games as he was schooled by Markovic and Sterling defensively and never looked in control offensively.

Debuchy – 7
A decent defensive performance and great work for our first goal.

Mertesacker – 5
He struggled to prevent dribbles at our defence and was very questionable for Liverpool’s second goal.

Gibbs – 7
He was very good in an attacking sense and defended well from our left side but let himself down at the end with their goal. If he stayed on the post, he might’ve prevented Skrtel’s goal.

Flamini – 2
Absolutely shocking performance. Picked up an early yellow that limited him. That’s a massive problem for an already limited player. Just stood around shouting at others.

Oxlade-Chamberlain – 3
Very poor as well. This is where the game would’ve been lost if Liverpool had a striker. They found it so easy to dictate the pace of the game. He was sloppy on the ball and released it too slowly.

Alexis – 3
He also had a shocker. Couldn’t do anything of any real quality with the ball.

Cazorla – 7.5 MOTM
Only attacking player that showed real quality. He constantly kept the ball in tight positions but with little to no support, he couldn’t do much else. Managed to get an assist for our second goal.

Welbeck – 3
He also didn’t do anything positive in attacking positions. He really is worrying me as he just loses the ball and doesn’t really stretch teams with his pace on the counter.

Giroud – 5
He did nothing positive aside from his goal but it was well taken.

Subs:
Coquelin – 6
He was actually pretty good when he came on and I’m seriously considering as to whether he should start our next game ahead of Flamini.

Campbell – N/A
Didn’t have any chance to influence the game.

Monreal – N/A
Same as Campbell.

The substitutions were wrong because he offer much in the defence. Welbeck should have. been the one removed. Van gaal is currently right about him. Schez was amazing and bfg shud be on loan list tgis coming transfer window.

Giroud is just back from a long injury, so he tires easily right now, he needs more games until he can get his full fitness back..I think that’s why he gets substituted all the time, you can see that after 50 minutes he is looking shattered..

OUr midfield was Zero from beginning, Giroud had a good game. Welbek n Sanches were poor. Sanches doesn’t release ball on time just like ox. Am worried, we were known for pass and one two ball, wher is it now. We r very weak in defensive style, anyway, last season we were trashed at Amfiled, one point better, dis is not strange same problem always. Too much injury, almost 6 or 7 1st team players on sick bed. When r we going to solve dis problem.

That’s what me and some 2 other guys on here keep saying about Sanchez, he is amazing but he too needs to improve his game, he is not a finished article yet. He needs to learn when to let go of the ball, needs to know where to do this skills, not in our half, he needs to work on his link up, in that I mean his passing, he is poor at passing, he either over hit, under hits or just gives the passes away.. Those are the areas he has to improve on, and he will improve game by game..

You forget Liverpool had no Sturidge no Surariz so 2 2 is a joke and just realised why Mertisacker goes to near post on corners cause he can’t bloody jump for the ones in the box,he is the worst since Cygan CB

We played too many offensive players and Flamini was left stranded while the offensive players did not do much meaning wave after wave of LFC attack. A draw is respectable given how bad some of our players were.

Personally, I would have thought it made more sense to play Coq and Flamini than Ox and Flamini.

Before the game I heard noone calling for a defensive lineup, but in hindsight we’re all le Proffeseur. I totally agree though on Flamini, the BBC called him “a windscreen wiper” always left with a 2-3 man job. What I wonder is, why Wenger didn’t react after say 30 min. and put on Coq for Sanchez? Does it say in his contract that he can only do stratigic subs after 68 min.?

The analysis from Phil Neville’s precise, and if Suarez’d still been around we’d definently have lost: http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/30571842

I think playing Giroud and Welbeck is not working, Welbeck is non existent most of the time. They are our 2 strikers so if we start both of them that means they will tire at the same time and when we need to make a change the one left on will not be fresh enough..

One has to start, either Giroud or Welbeck..

    AW :
Down to tactical reasons and psychological reasons…… Maybe bad memories from last year. It played a part as well – I think some players were not at their best today.
on whether he genuinely believes last year’s defeat was in their minds…
I’m not sure. I felt that we played with the handbrake [on] a little bit in the first half especially.

Wasn’t this a perfect oppurtunity to take revenge & humiliate a tem w/o suarez, sturridge & playing like sh*t.
These are 25-30 yrs old professional. Wenger treats them like babies & they play like one. No, desire no passion.smh.

Why play a French international right back as a centre back
And put a young centre back in the making as a right back.
Also keeping in mind that chambers got ripped to pieces a couple of weeks ago on the rite against Swansea

I am no Flamini fan but seriously, the OX just pissed off and left him to cover a massive gap in our midfield, the guy tried and was shouting at players because they were bombing forward and leaving him alone to handle Stirling and Courthino.
Why was Chambers not at DM with Belerin at RB?

Giroud, apart from the goal, was invisible except when Liverpool took the ball off him like a school bully taking lunch money.

The number of passes that went directly to Liverpool players was ridiculous.
When will Wenger realise that tikka takka is dead, if the players are pressed, as they were last night, they don’t have the time to tik and tak.
We should be playing direct football, counters and attacking runs.
Every time Liverpool got the ball they ran at us; count their side and back passes compared to ours, they will tell a tale.
Every Liverpool pass was directed at moving forward, every Arsenal pass, that wasn’t intercepted or given to a Liverpool player, was just a pass and when the players were pressed they dropped their tiny balls and made mistakes.

Don’t let FLAMINI’s shouting, clapping and pointing fool you.. The guy is an accident waiting to happen.. Why did he jump in that early when there was hardly any danger? He always puts us under pressure due to his poor tackling, poor position and reading of the game..

When he gets a yellow card then he just runs about, clapping, shouting, pointing and telling his team mates who to mark while he himself is ball watching..

ARTETA is 100% better than this guy, he is more calmer and intelligent, he reads the game which Falmini can’t. All Flamini does is jump into tackles unnecessarily..

I thought Flamini came back in the second half after an absolutely horrible first but Coquelin showed enough to start the next game at DM.

Mertey needs to be gone asap, monreal following him, flamini and diaby released…lets face it who will pay for this crap??
Ive been saying for past 2 seasons that Oxlade wont make the grade ar Arsenal, at best he is a mid table team star and thats all he will ever be!!
Wenger was offered Bale and Sterling at same time he purchased Walcott and Ox….i know who i would have had!!

@gooner.. No one knew who would turn up better.. Fergie thought Cleverly would do better than Ramsey so he did not fight hard to sign him..

Fergie and Wenger had the chance to sign Bale and Modric but they all passed them on..

Fergie refused to promote and increase Pogba’s wages and decided to keep Anderson, now look at Pogba and looks at Anderson..

Sterling and The Ox were the same, only this time Sterling has matured better than The ox. Can’t get them all right.

And don’t forget that BALE was pants and was on the verge of being sold to West Ham in January 2009. But luck was on Spuds side as I think it was Lennon and VDV got injured at the same time and then they could not sell him, so they tried him as a winger, the rest is history..

Wenger 18 years stay at arsenal really brain wash a lot of people. Now a lot people are thinking everyone don’t like arsenal except wenger fans. Is alway others faults, the ref, media, pundits, FA, fifa, etc. Did Wenger do Sunday service to tell those that the world don’t like them so every week we are curse. Like the whole world is against us, Wenger is the one who make enemy. He can one hand control arsenal in and out but he can’t blind the world outside. Do you know how many top club manager envy his post, minimum requirements, maximum profits.

Mertesacker ducking to avoid being hit with the ball or Skrtel. And he was meant to be our hard, no nonsense commanding CB.. What a sissy that guy is..

In the world cup when he got dropped by Germany for being too slow I thought Wenger would take notice. The guy was broadcasting for a French TV and they all highlighted why Germany dropped Mertesacker, he was the weak link in the defense, but our Wenger just decided to ignore it..

He was analyzing the Germany games from the last 16 to the final and Mertesacker was the Topic throughout, I don’t know why wenger turned a blind eye after that..

Got two time he try clear the ball out, the ball can’t even leave our own half that show how sh*t he is now. The way he position him to kick the ball out, look so amateur.

He hasnt been playing nearly enough of that position and last night he came up against Gerrard who has played there for over a century and also a weird formation which resulted in four mids in the centre as Keown pointed out. I think too that Ox was made to play when he clearly wasnt anywhere near 100% fitness.

YOU CAN ARGUE ALL DAY LONG….YOU CAN ANALYZE THE GAME AND PUT THE BLAME ON PARTICULAR PLAYERS…….THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS ……ARSENE WENGER IS THE ONE TO BE BLAMED….MORE THAN 10 TIMES …..MORE THAN 3 SEASONS AGO….I’VE BEEN SAYING THAT WENGER IS NOT A COACH….BELIEVE IT OR NOT HE’S NOT A COACH…..

HE IS THE ONE THAT BOUGHT THESE PLAYERS YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT………HE COULD HAVE BOUGHT QUALITY CB…..WHO DID HE BUY? PER….DID HE HAVE TO SELL THOMAS? NO…
WHY ON EARTH WILL HE BUY CHAMBERS? THE GUY IS NOT QUICK ENOUGH TO BE A RB….
WHY DIDN’T HE BUY QUALITY MIDFIELD HOLDER LIKE SCHNIEDERLING?
A GOOD COACH CHANGES TACTICS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAME..LIKE JOSE OR SIR ALEX..
WENGER NEVER DOES THAT…HE HAS NO CLUE AT ALL…HOW MANY TIMES DID YOU SEE WENGER INTERACTING WITH THE PLAYERS AND CHANGING TACTICS…..?
ANT TO BE HONEST, WE ARSENAL FANS NEVER LEARN…ONE GOOD GAME KEEPS US HAPPY….SAME OLD STORY SAME OLD ARSENE……..

ARSENAL IS NO LONGER A POWER HOUSE..THE LIKES OF WEST HAM AND SOUTHAMPTON ARE TAKING OUR PLACE…..IF YOU CARE ABOUT ARSENAL AS A CLUB…….START TO PROTEST AND DON’T STOP TILL ARSENE IS OUT……WE NEED A MANAGER WITH FIGHTING SPRIT NOT A PLASTIC COACH LIKE WENGER……GET UP YOU FANS AND KICK ARSENE OUT…..

To be fair, Giroud has played well considering he just came back from injury

    I’d give him a 6 because a goal is still a goal.

I love it when KJ always gives a low rating to Strikers who score – sometimes multiple goals. In some cases this could be fair but KJ ALWAYS does this. When midfielders score, however, they are always awesome.

But KJ qualifies the low striker ratings with “other than the goals, he did nothing.” Hey KJ……

    1. Strikers job is to score. That is what they do and what the coach wants them to do.
    2. Strikers cannot score and they will often “do nothing” if the rest of the squad does not give them the ball.

I am neither praising or criticizing or defending Giroud here – I don’t really know if he played well or not – too much other ugly chaos in the game. I just am amazed at KJ’s consistency in advertising his complete lack of knowledge about football and how it works.
