Man City run riot over Arsenal in empty Emirates Stadium

Arsenal have succumbed to another devastating defeat at the hands of Manchester City tonight, with the visitors taking no prisoners as they ran away with the game from the off.

Our boys started the match well, pressing forward and causing City problems at the back, but Bernardo Silva ruined all of that on minute 15 by scoring with a sublime curling shot from outside the area.

From this moment, the game turned, and unfortunately our opponents put us to the sword inside the following 18 minutes by scoring another two goals. David Silva scored the second of the match, controlling the ball beautifully to go clear of our defender and slot past Petr Cech, before the Man of the Match Leroy Sane put the ball in the net after a succession of neat passes.

The stats tell another story, with our side managing to acquire more shots on goal and on target than our opponents in the opening half, yet the scoreline was very different, but watching the game you would know that a number of our shots were from outside the box, and Ederson was more than equal to each of them.

In the second half, we tried to come out and get back into the game, and we nearly got gifted the perfect opening thanks to Henrikh Mkhitaryan being taken down in the box, with Nicolas Otamendi already on a yellow card, but the City star was let off and not carded for the incident, and then Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang failed to beat Ederson. Double whammy… All hopes at this point are now gone.

Petr Cech denied Sergio Aguero from the edge of the box after he got onto a neat pass through the defence, but really there was little goalscoring opportunities to talk of in the second half that stand out, and all the ‘Wenger Out’ crowd will be having a field day after that performance.

Manchester City are simply on another level to us, and I struggle to see how we can challenge them with our current hierarchy.

Are Arsenal that bad or are Man City just that good? Did any Arsenal players have a good game?

  1. Kudos to Guardiola’s Manchester City, because all of their goals were created in open play and they showed world class ball control/ first touches/ vision throughout the match. Unfortunately Arsenal were very disappointing:

    – Aubameyang: His physicalities made him able to score almost 100 goals from around 150 league matches for Dortmund, but he is not Aguero or Suarez type of striker. Arsenal had tried to play more direct to support his playing style, but they don’t have a good playmaker that could control the tempo

    – Ozil: He could not even turn creatively like Sane and Aguero (their turns initialized the second and the third goals), let alone having the same first touches/ vision as Silva’s and De Bruyne’s. Everytime he received the ball, he just passed it quickly to one of his teammates, without waiting for better chances or even trying to change the flow. Bergkamp >>>>> Ozil (youtube.com/watch?v=f6UPlEzT1bU)

    – Ramsey, Welbeck and Mkhitaryan: Very average, like mid-table football club players

    – Xhaka: He is not good as a DM. Could have been benched if he plays for Manchester City or Chelsea

    – The defenders and the goalkeeper: No error today, but were totally outclassed by more skillful players

    – Wenger and the staffs: If the board can endure a few more embarassments till the end of this season, good for them. I think they all would have been fired if they work for Barcelona or Real Madrid

    1. There is time for everything, when you refuse to exit the stage when your show is over, then you will lose your appreciation and applaud. Arsene Wenger it is time for you to exit and let someone else manage the team. Am really sad and I could not watch with any sound as I want to have a peaceful sleep. But all well and good.

    2. Totally….City were the superior team…totally outclass….

a B2B like Bakayoko type would be nice…..tall big strong and pacey to provide steel

must say… money does make wonders….signing every quality player in every position….

        1. the old bakayoko at monaco i mean

currently hes not playing well…maybe he hasnt settle or maybe he doesnt suit the style….or maybe 10001 reasons…

      1. While we are talking about the floppy Bakayoko, let’s remember how a lot of fans drooled for Xhaka’s, Grzegorz Krychowiak’s and Moussa Sissoko’s strengths

Money does wonders and Arsenal is the second richest club in the world, yet their performances are embarassing

        1. 2nd richest club but that doesnt mean we can compete financially with city which is supported by a country…

we are a club running on a budget

          1. Can’t compete with the richest club in the world, but surely we can compete with the third and the fourth?

            1. We aren’t the second richest. I seen that article and it was more than misleading, it was totally fabricated. They used all sorts of reasoning behind it instead of just looking at the wealth/income of each club. They used our owners personal fortune even though we know they don’t put in a single penny of it. They used other things too, all sorts of things, but it didn’t make any difference as it was the owners wealth which put us in second. Surprised anyone is going by that report with it being pointless, a waste of time in truth.

              1. Yes.

It basically meant the potential to be second richest in transfer market, not current situation with Kroenke as the owner.

But yeah, we can easily be 3rd in England in spending:
City and United are unreachable, but Spurs and ‘pool should be behind us and Chelsea will stop the crazy spending. Why?

With the current debt, Abramovich can still sell the club, but when the debt reaches 2 billion, he won’t be able to give it for free.

      2. Stop mentioning players needed. What we need is a new manager with drive, passion, tactical knowledge, motivation and he must have won trophies before, no up and coming managers needed here. We bought aubameyang, kolasinac, lacazette under wenger and they look shit now and you want us to spend more money under him? Get a good manager and let him build a new team.

  2. This is absolutely disgraceful. If wenger doesn’t leave, he shows he does not love the club and if anyone still supports him, i can see they don’t see us as a big club again. It depends on how you see arsenal. We fans that want change see ourselves as a top club that needs to win epl and ucl while people like you have accepted just like wenger that we are a 6th placed team that is overachieving by winning fa cups. Its all about perspective. No top club will leave the manager in the job for decades without winning the league because they win fa cups, spanish cups, french cups, german cups, italian cups and so on. Some of this clubs sack you the next season even after winning the league the prior season if you don’t perform. Akbs should just admit they have lowered their expectations, it shows when you always look at what other teams haven’t won instead of what others are winning.

    1. I totally agree with you. If he truly loves the club he should allow someone else to take the team and he can take the financial role or some other roles that will keep him busy. Am really really sad. It is very very disgraceful!!!!

    2. The board might know that the loyal fans that have been supporting Arsenal for years won’t be able to leave, so they keep milking the old fans while they can

But I believe they could have a plan to replace Wenger at the end of this season and they might not want to do it now because of the things we cannot see behind the curtain

      1. wenger would not be here for long…hes still a human…

maybe its this season, maybe its next season or maybe its after…

but the new manager would still have to listen to the board and run on a tight budget….

          1. compare that to city….

do you even know that the pitch and stadium require repairs and maintence? and many more expenses?

            1. What are you talking about? Really what? Pitch expenses? According to Forbes we are the 7th richest club in the world. Third in the UK after the two Manchester Clubs, we have spent 35M on Xhaka when we could have bought Kante for 30 – we spent 35M on Mustafi, 53M on Laca and 57 on Auba, now a 350K deal to Ozil. We have money to compete, there are more than enough good players in every position to buy out there City and Unted cant buy them all.
But Arsene buys the wrong ones, he misses out on good ones for a few million, he plays with the wrong tactics, he cant motivate, and you are still talking about pitch expenses. What is wrong with you?

        1. Our midfield has Xhaka-35mill, Ozil-40mill. Our defense has 35mill Mustafi. Our attack has 50mill Lacazette, 60mill Aubameyang. Not one of them has lived up to their name thus far.

          1. aubameyang hasnt even settled and laca is injured

ozil is lazy and xhaka cant defend and tackle…compare that to city

u expect players to come in settle and play like robots?

buy the club with your billions and you can do it however and whatever you like

  3. Right. I’ll sit up until I hear the news of Wenger sacking.

Would be funny that. The man who Wenger prevented from coming to Arsenal gets him the sack

    1. I don’t think all our players are bad. But we have a manger that is totally out of tune with Morden day football. We have played terribly this season even before Mkhi and Aubameyang came. Wenger can not inspire himself not to talk of players. He is truly out of tune, lack new methods and techniques. He is not fit for today’s football.

      1. have you seen the training methods techniques?

or just making up rumours and spreading shit?

  4. right the akb’s numbers are dropping on here

so i am assuming command! ARSENE IN …here goes…

firstly it was really cold – difficult adjustment for the players
alot of empty seats that would have affected the players majorly
monreal injured which is like losing lionel messi
they played on sunday ..so of course no rest

all things considered we did really well
were looking good for european places…

burnley are still far behind..thursday is ours 🙂

    1. The players weren’t wearing woolly jock strap hence affected their ball control while running in the freezing weather.

  5. Finish the old fart off AC Milan. Let’s hear what the AKB’s cook up this time, haha. “We had shots on target tho!” “City have more money!” “The snow messed us up!”

  6. With a bit of luck, this is the last straw, and we will start a resurrection with a manager, who can get the best out of our players and who has got some knowledge of how to organize a football team in modern times.
If that is the case, it has actually been a good night, although it is sad, we should sink so deep.

  7. City is that good….2 world class players at every position….

might as well hand them the title for the next 10 years

    1. We’ve got a WC player in Ozil, but it’s shame he wasn’t used against Spurs, and twice against City. I wonder what were Wenger’s reasons for not picking him? Injured maybe?

      1. hey, dont blame Ozil. He is only useful when the other 10 players around him are world class. Not his fault. Let him walk it off as always

    2. Arsenal have spent more than 300 millions for their squad and have much more untouched in the bank, yet their football level is still several levels below Manchester City’s

They sell the most expensive ticket in England, yet unwilling to spend for better manager, defenders and midfielders

      1. city defense alone is already close to that amount and done in a single season….if not for ffp they would have challenge PSG for mbappe and neymar

these days football clubs are run by budget…unless you are chelsea or city…

which board members doesnt want high dividends? extra money for a new car, house, holiday or a new mistress?

          1. well you said it 156m plus another 100m on the bench when you need it….

thats quality off and on the pitch….

do you make a million a year or even 10k a month?

  8. admin:

Confirmed Arsenal team to take revenge on Man City! Welbeck starts!

    discuss…..

  9. welbeck is not a footballer. Ozil is not worth the money he is paid. He will never be even half the players cazorla and rosicky were. We also need a CDM and some wingers who can dribble.

And someone explain to me how can any Arsenal fan want this manager to stay? You don’t need to be a PhD to see that this guy has nothing significant (relatively) to offer to this club anymore. But obviously the AKBs usually don’t understand how real statistics work and will usually cherry pick their data to support some meager point they make while ignoring the bigger picture. SMH.

    1. Welbeck should have been here on a loan and off….Thanks to Gazadis…

Ozil is playing as if hes 90 years old

We do need a consistent, determined and energetic playmaker….

Liverfool previously has Coutinho and even Firminho is energetic and determined….

Spud has Eriksen hes slightly better in terms of determination and energy

needless to say for City….Silva and De Bruyne always consistent determined and full of energy…

      1. A horrible decision to offer Ozil that fat contract. Any intelligent management team would’ve invested that money on a CDM, but that’s not a quality you can find in people in Arsenal management.

      2. Firmino, a false nine, scored more goals than Lacazette in this season

Salah, an inverted winger, scored more goals and created more assists than Ozil in this season

I wonder why would Arsenal need a striker and a no 10, if they are useless. Might as well recruited a false nine and an explosive inverted winger

        1. Wenger doesn’t care about wingers. His midfield and wings are just occupied by schoolboys who are only good at passing the ball around when nobody around them is pressuring them on the ball. Pathetic really.

        2. The more you type the more you show you have noidea. If those two players play for arsenal and Wenger i bet my life your opinion will be the same. You also call these players when in reality the problem lies with the coach and the system they play in.

          1. hence if you buy the club and reveal the real issues…

we will be able to get a new manager, have a new system….

buy any players and pay them whatever they wants

        3. exactly…

we need someone like firmino who is consistent and determined….

          ozil is just too lazy…..

Salah was like our sanchez…..it was a good buy for liverfool …..

de bruyne and Salleh …wondering why chelsea sold them

      3. wow, something we can agree on, Ozil is a waste! Club made a very poor decision. There is not a lack of talented midfielders in football. Ozil is so replaceable and I wish we kept Sanchez over Ozil. Impossible to get rid of now until his contract expires. Arsenal spent so much time to get high wagers like Walcott out and then go and make the same mistake.

        1. In fact there are many fans who think it was a good idea to offer Ozil this contract. They just don’t realize that ozil was never a necessity and that his output is not worth the cost which Arsenal have incurred. But oh well fanboys aren’t the most rational people.

          1. exactly. No top team wanted this guy. Even when he was set to go for free he was hardly linked with any top side, yet he still held the club hostage.

  10. I don’t even care anymore, I’m honestly losing my love for this once great football club and Wenger is responsible for this. Why can’t he just resign and leave us in peace?!!

    1. Because he earns too much money to be sh£t at his job.
Until the Owner of the Club is outed and the board changed then Wenger will remain like he has done for season after season of substandard incompetent management.

  11. 3 games against city this season 9 goals aginst 1? at the very start of today’s game Wenger was begging Guardiola for mercy…ha..ha..ha….how on earth a manager fails to watch the way liv. beat city and adopt it…..now what is left????????????????????????????????????

  12. Can it get any worse?? How many will we lose by to Brighton??? Jesus what a mess we’re in…. I’m absolutely gutted at how crap we are!
This is by far the worst I’ve ever known it

    1. Don’t be sad Sue , be glad! We are now very close to freedom from Wenger. The sack looms, possibly tomorrow, but surely as soon as we exit the Europa, almost certainly to ACMilan. Don’t just react, helplessly, but instead think how close we are now to redmption. I promise you I am thrilled tonight as my greatest wish for our club is almost on us now, the removal of this ridiculous and arrogant man who has been harming our club for years. Even a blind person should NOW be able to see he is almost gone. Rejoice!!

      1. How i wish i could have your optimism but this arsenal and Stan we are talking about. With the event of the present past, Wenger should be out of job if consider what happened to Bilic, Raineri, De boer etc.

        1. Mobella, Are you really and sensibly thinking it through or not? There are loads of signs to his sacking. Josh Kroenke is here for three months – already now a month ago – to do a full analysis. He is clearly deciding and will report to Stan. With a more than half empty stadium at start and only ten thousand, at most, still there at end, what do you think the Kroenkes will make of that? Huge and widely publicised fan anger; open discussion among respected national journalists on who will be his successor(They take his sacking for granted); a board meeting this Monday to which he was summoned; all the backroom changes made by Gazidis, over Wengers head. Add all that up and if you still don’t see his sacking coming, well you need a guide dog!

          1. arsenal is one of kroneke successful franchise and ‘over achieving’ compare to the rest of kroenke’s other clubs….

if you are willing to buy the club….we can be the next city

  13. Bonaroca:- I know it is cruel when you have someone who actually during the last 22 years gave sterling work to an employee as Mr Wenger did. I understand that Mr Wenger has been given a position on the board which apparently he refused.
Times have changed and I think the Arsenal board should now look into the interest of the
supporters who fork out to watch the team playing week in week out.
Well there is only one method to solve this problem., either Mr Wenger will be given a director ship on the board or otherwise he will have to resign.
Arsenal have enough talent at the club, and I am sure many Managers would like to take the
challenge to take the club to its high level in the days of the past achieved by Mr Wenger.

    1. Past Achievements are exactly that.IN THE PAST.We are on the HERE AND NOW.
We are where we are because of ONE man.WENGER.If this Board are serious about making a statement that this Club is moving forward then there is one solution only-SACK WENGER NOW.And while we are at it get rid of Bould and put Jens Leaman in charge until the end of the season. At least he will show some passion which is something this Club clearly lacks

  14. Everything we do is speculative, hit and hope, oh, there are some red shirts over there so if I hit in that direction perhaps one of them will get it. Pure school boy football. Everything City do is measured, assured, don’t take a chance, know where it’s going. The gulf between us was huge. I thought we did play better than Sunday but so did they, much better, so much better. I’m depressed. Even Auba telegraphed the pen so much I could have saved it. Kala is a bloody useless defender and how he was Bundesliga defender of the year, what, why? Welbeck? what does he do except run around quickly without a football? I could go on but you will thank me for not saying owt more. Good night!

    1. The gulf between us is huge as you said and it is not money as John Ibrahim always rant about but it is Pep f…king Gardiola.

  15. A superb day for our club, as now it it only a matter of daysor weeks til the out of touch fossil is booted out. Outclassed from beginning to end by a real, hungry and dedicated team who cant stand mediocrity. Meanwhile we have a manager, (technically he is managing) for the time being who will now know he is close to the sack. I will collect on my several bets made over the last month on his sacking and very soon now, fellow Gooners our club will be rescued from this madman. Rejoice! “No Arsene Wenger, there’s only no Arsene Wenger, no Arsene Wenger, there’s only no Arsene Wenger! Close the door behind you, fossil face!

  16. Now that AW is finally done done!!! THIERRY for manager please!!!. We need someone who infuses heart again. Young blood. Hes played in France, Italy, Spain, England and the United States. He’s seen all the styles of the game. He’s heen preparing himself for 10 years now. We must be the ones who show the world Henry’s coaching quality. He’ll be the perfect one for the Arsenal. I HEART TT

  17. city didn’t what to play in the second half, otherwise tomorrow headlines would have read pep sacks wenger

  18. city just respected us in the second half and now fans are saying we were unlucky, fans leaving d pitch before d game ended ,I wish players left too before d game ended

  19. So…… about tonight’s game;
    Arsenal: hapless, hopeless
    City: dominant, confident
BUT, there’s a thing both teams have in common; their respective performances is a true reflection of their manager’s abilities…
For anyone to still want wenger at arsenal, that person has to really hate arsenal, be a troll, or a consummate idiot (I feel sorry to say this)…… If only Stan would text him his sack letter this night… (he should send it at least twice, along with two emails too….. just to make sure he receives it)

  20. 22:20
    ‘We layed with low confidence’
    Arsenal 0-3 Manchester City

    Arsenal

Arsene Wenger told BBC Sport: “I feel we put a lot of effort in tonight. We played with low confidence, you could see that at the start of the game and we paid for it.

“We needed the penalty to go in, but that was another negative. We lost to a team that is the best in the country at the moment.”

    1. well its true….the team is very low in confidence and penalty misses doesnt help either

at least the effoort was there…

  21. @John Ibrahim why ar u blinding supporting this man
This man has noting to offers us anymore.
and all this ur money, money Doe’s wonders, pls give credits to where it is due. Gaudiola is one of d best managers in d world, most of this players where there before him, he just turn them to world beaters.
Swap Wenger with Guadiola he will still beat Arsene with this current Arsenal players.
Arsenal players ar not that bad this man is destroying them.so stop this ur obsession for Wenger d man is finished. He should go

    1. Mam city were so well organised off the ball, and the way they start to break after they steal possession is so disciplined. Full credit to their manager for this. Meanwhile at Arsenal, lol. We can’t even get back possession unless the other team makes a mistake(in general) and even when we do get the ball we are bullied off it in mos cases.

    2. not supporting this man…Wenger will not be here for long though due to his age……

but just looking at a corporate point of view and as person who plays a sport and knows a little how sports team are build up (not an expert though)…..

Gurdiola is a good manager….you have to give credit to him …

but to build a team with experience and right balance, communication, teamwork and etc….one needs 3 to 4 years on average….this is realistic

Gurdolia makes things easier by assembling a team in 2 years…..or 3 transfer windows (most players were signed in 2 windows)…

approximately 20 players were signed and several released

Clubs like Swansea or Everton or even Spud couldn’t do that

not to mention De Bruyne, Silva, Aquero and Steriling the key players were already there and Fernandino and Sane settled and gel after a season….

Gurdiola couldn’t have done this easier without a country backing it…..

Ask Luis Enrique who is on 15m a year at Barca…..he couldn’t find success at Roma when he started…..

      1. congrats. Youve managed to explain away two of the seven losses in 2018 alone. What nonsense have you got for the other games? Let’s go further back to last season. Explain away those Bayern games. Explain away Monaco debacle, explain away 8-2, 6-0, 6-3, 5-1 etc. etc.

        1. y not juz take out the bilions you have and buy the club?

you can do whatever you like when you own the club instead of whinging and complaining….regardless of a win or a loss

          1. Is this your idiotic reply to everything, “just buy the club”
You make absolutely no sense in anything you say and then when someone responds to you with sense, you respond the same way.
This club has enough money to compete, we are just stale, we have an old fart for a manager and an even older board, we need new blood.
And no i dont have to buy the club to voice my opinion.

              1. You are complaining about personal attacks? Then who wrote, under your name, in a couple of posts above, that someone was “whingeing”.

  22. don’t you think guadiola tell his boys save Wenger’s job by not scoring more because he want him around next season

  23. Never underestimate Arsenal Wenger, he is leaving the club where he found it. It’s all calculated!

  24. Stunned………..just can’t believe that Wenger is still leading this team………..when will they fire him?……….Wenger has nothing to offer the team…….

  25. Guys , afc problems runs deeper than wenger.
Even if he leaves (which I highly doubt), he will probably be replaced with some other mope head that will conform to the boards will..
Managers like simeone is what we need, but he is probably too vocal for the board ..
Something is seriously wrong with arsenal and it could take a decade to fix this problem..

  26. Wenger says” I am an employee how can I decide when to go”…this is the best begging fallacy……..when I am burrning inside you are still talking about MONEY…OH YES MONEY

  27. With the UK snow and a busy evening I completely forgot we were playing tonight until I checked the score now. Sounds like Wenger is done now.
The worst home defeat since 2009 and no one at the game. Can the board wait until May? Should they wait until May? The thing is of we had a new face now with the sqaud as is would it do any better ? Devoid of ideas class and now depth since getting rid of so many players in the last window.

  28. Please watch Lee Dixon’s in depth analysis of Arsenal’s defensive frailties and evidence of poor coaching on Superstar. Lee also comments positively on Steve Bould’s knowledge and coaching abitity with regards to defence and Dixon’s opinion that Bould has been sidelined by Wenger.
Dixon also comments on the lack of leadership within the team and that Wenger “allows his players to express themselves”. What Arsenal need is a hard nosed disciplinarian with coaching ability – Simeone, Conte or Ancellotti!

  29. Wenger will leave kicking and screaming I think. Just like Henry Bolton refusing to step down as UKIP leader (not comparing the two but Wenger will cling on til he is fired). Again i don’t blame him. He makes almost £10 mil a year. No wonder he “turned the whole world down”. I wouldn’t resign.

In a way its very sad.
Wenger was God like in the mid 2000s. Arsenal fans loved him.
But his hubris, his stubborness, his inability to change his philosophy and a highly secure high paying job led to this. Wenger can only blame himself

I want Wenger OUT. BUT once he is out, i will not say one bad word against him. I will just be glad hes out and just think of the good memories of him. The last decade has been largely miserable. I don’t want to re-live it.

  30. Why did the Arsenal team even bothering making an appearance tonight? They should of played the league cup final on the big screen at the Emirates same result same effort same embarrassment and same post match interview by the deluded Frenchman! The man is a broken record says the same garbage after every game “we have quality” “let’s stay together” “let’s stay united” “look, I turn down every club to stay here” blah blah blah Dover athletic wouldn’t take this clown on a free contract i think the man has bluffed his way through management.. he was a great coach years ago I often here! My A#se he was! a great coach would of at least won one European trophy in 22 years.. great coaches don’t just suddenly become bad.. Alex Ferguson won the league title in his 70s with a mediocre team give Wenger the city job they would be in 6th place he’s a clueless sorry excuse for a manager that just won’t go away! This club is losing fans by the day because they don’t have the bottle to dump this moron he should of been put out of his misery years ago! Arsenal FC only seem to care about keeping Wenger but aren’t to bothered about losing fans it makes me wonder why I ever started supporting this team they’re values are disgusting the owner knows nothing about football the chairman is a pig ignorant fat cat Tory lover! Arsenal fans are treated like nobody’s at this football club it’s all about profit’s and Arsene Wenger and very little else! DISGUSTING

  31. Shameful…I was a proud Gunner. Ready to hold my own against ANY other rival football fan. Now I avoid rival fans…not because they’ll rip me about our “status” naa…I avoid them because they all feel sorry for me now…they all show me sympathy.
I don’t even watch all the games anymore due to the gulf between us and any half decent side… the way this team can’t even play their way out of their own half…the team poo-poo their shorts everytime the opposition press them, I can’t remember the last time I had something positive to say or discuss about Arsenal(and I love the club) …I used to love wearing my red and white at weekends. Now I don’t even know where it is. Arsenal have made me hate the game.
If there’s some sort of lifecycle in football I pray that we’re at the end of the hard times and on the way up.

  32. Ladies and gentlemen we all need to calm down.Arsenal did not play badly yesterday. They were ripped apart on three occasions which highlighted the glaring deficiencies in our back four individually and collectively.I have criticised Xhaka all season but he gave 100% yesterday and along with Ramsay was our best player on the night. With or without Wenger we need quality defenders ,a new goalkeeper and a DM.
