Let’s not even pretend that Arsenal need a miracle to progress to the next round of the Champions League, because it is not going to happen Gooners. It would be nice if the team could give Bayern Munich a bit more of a game in the return leg at the Emirates but Arsene Wenger might as well play the kids because we are out of Europe and looking to salvage something from yet another disappointing season. You certainly won’t find a footy tipster that is predicting Arsenal to go through to the next round.
So the FA cup trophy is what the Arsenal fans would like to cap off the campaign but the manager and board will probably see another top four finish and a place in next year’s Champions League as the priority. Although I disagree with this priority as it is more about filling the coffers than the trophy cabinet, I think we need to avoid the Europa League and those Thursday night games.
This season the fight for the top four is tighter and tougher than ever though, with just four points separating Man City, Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man United and two of these clubs are going to end up disappointed and hopefully our exit from Europe could have one positive in that respect.
It is usually us that has problems with fixture congestion but from now on things are looking pretty clear for Arsenal, while Tottenham and especially Man United could have real trouble. As reported by Sky Sports, Jose Mourinho’s complaints about the amount of games his side are facing are legitimate.
If they stay in Europe and the FA cup United could have 25 more games before the end of the season, at an average of one every four days starting with the second leg of their Europa League tie tomorrow and then the EFL cup final this weekend. The spuds could have 22 while Arsenal will only have 17 if we get to the FA cup final.
Can the Gunners take advantage of the fixture schedule to get a top four finish?
