Arsenal can give up on this top centre-back

Manolas will not being leaving Roma for Arsenal!
One name that had been doing the rounds on the Arsenal transfer rumours lately was Roma’s central defender Kastos Manolas.
Despite signing Rob Holding from Bolton last week Arsenal are supposedly still in the market for a centre back given the uncertainty of Mertesacker’s fitness, Gabriel’s adaptation to England and Chambers’ potential loan away. The name that has featured on numerous occasions is Manolas, who despite previously being a talented young star when Arsenal were last linked with him, he has now become an experienced centre back at 25.
The 25 year-old possesses a lot of the qualities Arsenal will be looking for in a potential new centre back signing, however his manager Luciano Spalletti seems certain that the Greek international will not be leaving the Italian side this summer.
Spalletti told the press: ‘In my opinion, and especially for those who are here, it is easy to see that there are no problems.

‘Manolas is a good footballer, like there are many good footballers, and so it can happen that he will be linked in the transfer market – indeed it is inevitable. But his intentions are clear, so there are no issues. Why not talk instead about the problem of writing about issues that are not there? Manolas will stay with us.’

Therefore despite interest from a few Premier League clubs including the Gunners, the Greek international seems certain to stay at his current club if his manager has anything to do with it. Manolas would be a decent player for Arsenal to target this summer because he’s got a few years of good experience, but is also still young. He wouldn’t cost too much to sign, but with Spalletti wishing for him to stay, I’m sure Roma would pinch for every penny they could get.

Who else leads our list of potential incoming defenders, or do Arsenal already have enough centre backs on their books?

    1. Never give up on hope mate, unless you’re hoping for a hair free custard, that ship has sailed.

  1. I know YouTube videos can be misleading at times, but for the 8million that have been quoted ben yedder looks the real deal and is a no brainer for that amount.
To be honest lacazette has nothing on him apart from fame, I see a lot of aguero and Suarez in him.. we still need a marquee striker but we definitely should get him too.

  2. dunno why we messing around…….. Just sign a striker…… Sign wissam ben yedder for 8mil…..cheap….decent…. and get over with it!

This is how desperate we fans have become!…

  3. That’s not a big deal
Plenty of Good CBs out there
It just depends on Wenger’s willingness to seek and pay for a Quality CB

We were lucky £8 million Koscielny turned into a WC defender and arguably the best CB in the PL

This is a time we shouldn’t take chances and spend more money on a Quality CB
International: Miranda, Godin, Hummels, Howedes, Mustafi, Koulibaly, Carvhalo
PL: Stones, Reid, Van Dijk, Fonte, Williams

We don’t need WC, just a hard working, reliable, consistent CB

I actually envy Spurs: 2 quality CB (Alderwierld and Vertonghen) and 2 good strikers (Kane and Janssen)

We are sooo tantalisingly close to a Team that could even challenge for CL
Cech, Bellerin, Monreal, Koscielny, Cazorla, Xhaka/Coquelin, Ozil, Alexis
We just need a CF, winger and CB
It will be apprx less than £100 million well spent

  4. I believe this season will be very tight.
The top 12 will all be very tough.
I think home form will be critical.
Defenses will win the league this season.
The manager who can keep his cool will win it.
Chelsea and Liverpool do not have European football
which I believe will be an advantage.

  5. Give up on him? Like we had any hope of signing him in the first place. At least not with Wenger running the show. He signed some kid called Holding right? Yeah! There goes your new CB signing! Good looking out folks!

  6. I don’t want Vermaelen coming back, not just because of injury, and not only because he and Kos didn’t work together. I never thought he was a good enough height for CB. We got away with it at times early on, he had a good leap. But in the end there was no hiding from our deficiencies with aerial threat. Even today it can be a weakness, bringing him back would be only be adding petrol to a fire. I like the look of Mustafis stats. Not sure how tall himself or Manolas are, but they seem decent candidates. I hope we bring a good CB in.

  7. Thankfully Manolas isn’t the only good CB that we could get on the table and get with an aggressive and proper bid to meet & maybe who knows exceed the other clubs valuation by a bit.
    The list:
    1) Marquinhos (PSG)
    2) Koulibaly (Napoli)
    3) Lucas Hernandez (Atletico Madrid)
    4) Mustafi (Valencia)
All the club needs to do is willing to do the right things to get whoever is on there list and be serious about it.
I’m sad for BFG as he has never complained, always played with heart & worked hard but got to say his injury is timely and makes the matter more pressing. It will be interesting to see what Wenger goes for.
Gabriel has been dodgy last season & will be curious to see how he rebounds this season. BFG was never blessed with amazing speed but with age it is getting worse & with Arsenal high line it doesn’t help (Chelsea last year). Kolscieny can’t play the whole season and may get injured here & there. Holding isn’t expected to contribute hugely this year and before BFG injury’s Chambers was probably schedule for a loan. In the end we need a proper & great CB not only for now but for the forceable future.
Take some note from Juventus!! How great having Benatia would have been right now!
