Arsene Wenger has been praising the Arsenal full-backs for their performances this season, and is very happy that he has two top-class left-backs fighting for their place in the team. Nacho Monreal comes in for a special mention after his recent excellent performances, especially in the FA Cup win at Old Trafford.
“When you look back at the positive results of the team you always realise that you have great full backs,” Le Boss said on Arsenal.com. “That is a vital part in any successful team.
“Today they are dangerous going forward, they have crucial, important decisions to make defensively, and they contribute in a reliable way to the defensive efficiency. It’s probably one of the most important positions in the team.
“Nacho has done well in Manchester. It’s his city because he got us a penalty at City and he got us our first goal at United.
“We are all pleased for him because we have two fantastic left backs. They have produced great contributions this season.”
It is about time the Gunners had true competition for places. The hard bit is for Wenger to keep them all happy while they are waiting for their chance, just like Theo Walcott!
One of the reasons Theo is on the bench is because of the arrival of Alexis Sanchez last summer, and the Chilean is quite clearly loving life at the moment. “My spell here has been a really positive one,” he said on Arsenal Player. “I like the city a lot and I feel really comfortable at the club. Supporters here are very cheerful and enlivening, which is a very nice thing. My team-mates are really kind, too. My goal now is to take Arsenal as high as possible.
“I’m well adapted to the country and the league – I must keep on learning, though. I want to expand my knowledge of English football in general and Arsenal and my team-mates in particular, but overall I love this league. At the end of the day, football was invented in this country, right? I live where football was invented. That makes me really happy.
“Here in Premier League you can get beaten 3-0 by a team lying at the bottom of the table. It is not an unusual thing in English football. That is why any prediction ahead of the game may be very deceptive.
“Regardless of how good or bad the team you play against is, you can feel that there’s a huge crowd and pressure everywhere you go. I really like that.”
I certainly hope WE don’t get beaten 3-0 by anybody! But I can see where he’s coming from.Keep it up Alexis, we love you just as much as you love Arsenal!
