New Arsenal striker to lead the line for England on Monday?

Normally for Arsenal fans, an international break means a couple of weeks of worry over which of our players are going to come back with an injury. There have usually been a few for us to contend with, bgut apart from Mesut Ozil and his minor ankle problem, it is so far so good for the Gunners.

And in a change from the norm, I would actually like to see one of the Arsenal players get used by his national coach as much as possible, which makes the report in The Mirror about Daniel Sturridge being likely to miss England’s Euro 2016 qualifier in Switzerland to be good news, in my book at least.

To be fair, I would not mind the Liverpool forward missing the rest of the season, but the reason I think this news is good for Arsenal is that it would probably see our new signing Danny Welbeck leading the line for England on Monday night.

The former United man could do with some game time after all and Arsene Wenger will want him to be as match fit and sharp as possible for the visit of Man City next Saturday. A good game for England will certainly help Welbeck, while more time on the pitch with the likes of Wilshere and the Ox will certainly be good for Arsenal.

So get well soon Sturridge, but not too soon eh?

    1. I seriously hope he starts on monday and gets a goal to go with it. It will boost his confidence and I hope wenger will start him against shitty. I think welbeck will have a wonderful season for us and will bang in at least 15 goals this season. The kid has the potential to do so. He didn’t start that many games for united and once he did he would score on most occasions last season. He needs to start games and build confidence.

      1. even scholes is sorry united sold welbeck to us….hahaha…he will turn into a gem, no doubt with wenger as his manager he will be a world class striker by next season if not this season

  1. Couldn’t have said it better! C’mon danny,bang in 3 goals…one for you,one for wenger,and one to spite Falcao…

  2. Hmm, how 4unny can the round-leather game can turn out to be at times. I still cant believe that, that Hair-less dude from Manchester is now a Gunner. Come on Danny, All Ð Best

  3. How funny it seems but have search all this while for wenger’s quote on welbeck since signing for arsenal. But find None

    1. Neither was henry when we signed him at the same age with an inferior goals per game ratio.

Face it welbeck has played 178 games scoring 37 goals at the top level and has 27 caps and 8 goals for his for his country, add to that he is a homegrown player, his fee of £16m is a snip.

Henry had a similar domestic record as welbeck when he joined arsenal, not quite as good with 30 goals in 151 appearances, but most of those were for monaco who far from top level.

Welbeck has the experience and the ability to replicate henry, but even if he becomes half the player henry did, he will be a massive signing. The next step for me is to bring king henry back to mentor the likes of welbeck, Walcott, campbell, gnabry, chamberlain, sanogo, akpom and afobe. All these lads have the ability, they just need a bit of sharpening, king henry is the man to do that.

Imagine if we could get those 8 scoring goals for arsenal, for fun? The experienced fellas like giroud podolski, cazorla would then really have to step up to the plate too.

  4. there aren’t any prolific goal scores in our team.
Let’s face it we are inferior to the other top 6 clubs.

    Wenger screwed up this window.

  5. “Official: Ronaldinho joins Mexican side Queretaro”

At 34 shouldn’t Ronaldinho still be playing at the top level in Europe? He seems to have declined rather quickly in my opinion..

  6. i hope they do give him a start up front but it wouldnt surprise me if rooney is moved up with sterling behind him…..and then on the left wing maybe ox or wellbeck we will have to wait and see i guess.

    1. I think you could be very right. I have a feeling that Serling will go to No.10 with Rooney up front. Lets face it Roy won’t leave his new Captain out.

    1. You’re right of course but I’d rather see Arsenal fans jumping the gun and being positive than the absolute tripe that many fans were spouting about Welbeck on Monday night – ManU reject, donkey etc. Having said that, it is nice to see most have come around and willing to give him their support.

      1. I agree it is good to support him from the off, but I don’t want fans to raise there expectations so high that it would be impossible for Danny to live up to them. I believe he will be a great asset for the club going forward. I will be happy with what he does if gives 100%, but I’m not expecting him to score a massive amount of goals from the off.

  7. Costa and Sturridge already injured…I hope the trend continues for our rivals….Falcao, Rooney, Fabregas, Hazard, Silva, Aguerro, Kompany, Sterling next please…

    1. While I would love Arsenal to win everything, I would prefer we did it at full strength and with the other teams at full strength too. It would be wrong of me to deny that I enjoy watching Costa and Surridge play. And if I were to be totally, honest I can’t wait to see Falcao play on MoTD. God I love football.

  8. Remember Gentelman. Arsenal is a team who makes the like of Bedtner score hattricks, makes the likes of Adebayor look like a super star, makes the likes of donkys aka Girouds score 22 goals per season, so you can bet that Wellback will be sucessfull.

By the way who the fack is Schools anyway, i cant believe how overrated his opinions are and how overrated his game was back then. P$%iss of you Ginger.

    1. I can’t agree with the Giroud comment I’m afraid. He works extraordinarily hard for Arsenal, and has a very good eye for goal. Remember he played a significant part in Jack’s amazing goal last season. We all to often forget about Giroud’s quality in and around the box. In my view we will be lucky if Welbeck can match Giroud from the off.

  9. I think Welbeck is a great signing and Wenger has worked some magic this window. Yes we’d all of preferred Falcao but he didn’t want to come to us so what more can we realistically expect?

Sanchez, Chambers, Debuchy, Ospina and Welbeck is a great window and better than our transfers for the last several years.

I just wish we’d got Fabregas and a CB or DM. I will never understand why Cesc was allowed to go elsewhere. He’s gonna win Chelsea the league instead of Arsenal which is madness.

Anyway, 4th place looks well within our range again – maybe even 2nd and a cup.

  10. Its been a while since arsenal had a pacey striker, actually this team is built for pace. so it will do the damage we expect, when WENGER starts allowing our pacey wingers to start playing, which are even far better defensively.

I think Welbeck is at the right club with his set of skills and i guarantee he will double his goal tally of last season. He fits Arsenal perfectly
