Newcastle away the perfect game to kick start Arsenal?

Arsenal set to shine in Newcastle by Sam P

The last time Arsene Wenger took his Arsenal squad up north to face Newcastle United the Gunners were in full flow. We beat the Magpies to make it six wins in a row and won the next three games as well, so the situation on Saturday when the players run out for the early Premier League kick off is not really the same, but I still think that we will arrive in Newcastle with real confidence that all the points will be coming back to north London.

For one thing, our French striker Olivier Giroud seems to like playing against them, with four goals from our two games last season. And the previous season he also scored one in each of the matches against them, matches we won both of once again. And in his debut season the Frenchman bagged another two goals against Newcastle, so he will surely be rubbing his hands at the prospect of Saturday´s game. Other Gunners have good memories of them as well, with Walcott having bagged a stunning hat´trick against them in December 2012.

The last time we failed to beat them was the opening day of the 2011-12 season and the last time they beat us was November 2010, so not many of the players in the starting XI will ever have experienced losing to them.

As well as recent history being on our side, I think that the way the game will be played should suit us. The Newcastle fans will want, even demand, their players to have a go. So it should be an open game with a great atmosphere and that should take the pressure off Arsenal and allow us to express ourselves.

The players have to perform, individually and as a unit, and I am not assuming a victory but I do think that it will be the sort of game which is set up for us to throw off the shackles and really show what we can do. What do you think?

  1. If we are in dire need of a striker who can flip to the wings, who is cheap, who plays in france, who is a safe wenger signing….Antony Martial. Breathtaking footballer. Hearing of barca’s interest.

    1. French folks would quickly have alerted & sent videos to Monsieur Wenger about him… He probably decided not yet!

    2. Antony Martial, the guy you personally scouted on FIFA 15?

Just kidding… But the sad truth is that I’ve check out some of the names droPped here by some guys and the seem good. I do know that nobody here could or would buy a guy like Kim Kalstrom or even take him on loan, yet Wenger went for him.

    3. the author of this article just didn’t see newcastle against manure last week…… Their back Line is something else so far this season… Especially with that new addition (Mbemba) and coloccini was just troublesome……need i comment on their attack?

    1. We have younger folks growing up as supporters of Arsenal. I feel very bad becuz they might think this is how Arsenal has always been: MEDIOCRE. I pity guys that never watch Bergkamp, Lumberg, Hleb, Henry, Reyes, etc… What we have now is a guy called. Giroud as our main man, not even half as good as Van Persie. Imagine how calamitous Chambers was against Pool, could he have played along side Sol? He’s not even good enof for Spurds yet consider just how much we spent on him. LVG said Welbeck isn’t good enof for him and muFC, Arsenal went and got him. Honestly, I like Welbeck, but it changes nothing in this context.

      Thank you, Arsene. Thank you.

      1. Never mind feeling sorry for the kids – I am feeling a bit sorry for you putting Reyes on the list (by common consent in Arsenal’s top 5 flops of the PL era) and such a criminal misspelling of Ljungberg’s name, not even phonetically correct – are you sure you watched them?

    2. u keep repeating the same quote through all articles posted the last few days…….. Keep wallowing in the pool of mediocrity and basking in the light of 4th place radiance…. Swim Bimbo….swim!

  2. Stop this bullsh!t your french striker wanting to face a team (favourite opponent), the guy is capable of leading arsenal’s front line, get a striker asap.

    1. I will take Austin, Lukaku, Bony and many more low profile strikers to this so called Giroud. Talkless players like Cavani, price what ?? I don’t give a damn, a bit off topic I know, May be am desperate.

  3. Off topic and I don’t know if anyone already posted this but did anyone see Claude’s interview after the Liverpool game on ArsenalFanTV??? Just when I got over the Benzema crap he says that LOL. According to him we’re on the verge of signing 2 players from the same club. Very interesting because I’ve been watching ArsenalFanTV for a while now and Claude is a regular on that show and he’s always been straight up (most of the times pissed off with our performance or how the club is ran LOL) but strikes me as an honest guy. That interview he was unusually calm with a smirk and made that statement when ask which ST we should bring in. True or not he’s got my hopes up again brain storming who these 2 players could be. Boy it’s rough sometimes being an Arsenal fan… LOL

    1. The signings will come after the damage has already been done, then continue the struggles. And tell us that next year is our year. #TimeUp

    2. Yeah I seen it too, but I hope its not Lavezzi we are being offered with Rabiot. Would prefer any of Carvalho Wanyama Bender Krychowiak Kramer over the young Parisian. Lavezzi we have absolutely no need for.

  4. I’m sorry for going off topic.. I’ve been on this site for some years now, I normally come on here to read articles and comments of my fellow Arsenal Fans, but I don’t often drop my own comment, I just read most times, I think there is this guy that do post rumors on this site some couple of transfer windows back, it’s been a while since i read any comment from him.. His name is LEO. anyone knows him? He always claim then to have an insider in the emirate that tells him transfer dealings before even the media knows..

This transfer window is making me crazy seeing teams bidding and signing the player within days, while Arsenal is taking ages to sign a striker which everyone (even a toddler) knows we need..

    1. He gets his rumours from the media, off sites from just about every country. I would have read most of them myself without need for post. Some on here really liked him doing it though as it meant that they didn’t have to go looking, and some thought that he was genuinely ITK. But some people were not to keen.

    2. U did not meet Paul? Meh,Paul was. Worse than Leo. Paul would tell u IT IS DONE, not just a rumour. Paul was before leo. There was another guy that used to rival Paul and once they clashed. Lol! I’ve been here since “Adam”.

      1. Ya. I used to read it too. I used to criticize adam everyday. Miss his articles now.. those were the days bro

  5. Fa Cup: Aston Villa 0 Arsenal 4…..Lyon 0 Arsenal 6. Preseason went well… W e defeated Chelsea…. We were hopeful and expected some new players in the team. Lost to Westham, won against Crystal palace but we were not convincing. Drew against Liverpool and now Newcastle.

Its just sad that most fans have lost that morale we had going into the season or after that FA CUP final. Striker and Dm at least. seems like we aint gonna get anyone. What has happened to Arsenal? Wright, Henry, Kanu, VanP……We still have Flamini in the team????

Maybe i have high hopes for this team…..Maybe i expect more from them….do i have outrageous ambition for this team? Maybe I have to lower my expectations and just take one game as they come….

    1. As long as Wenger is in charge the best we can finish in the league is 3rd. I think honestly we
      deserve 4th place trophy.

    1. I want Arsenal to come 3rd or 4th in the group. Whats the point of getting to knock out stages
if we cant reach quarter final ?

  6. Glowing tributes flowing for our own Gideon Zelalem on his performance for Rangers today, setting up 2 goals and dictating the midfield. COYG.

  7. How many times do we need to kick start the season ? I am tired of same thing repeating every season.
Wenger the old fool has the perfect job no pressure to win trophies, no pressure to spend and
buy top players, no pressure of getting fired, no pressure of taking pay cut.

  8. Would love nothing better than 3 points away to newcastle on saturday! All the best gunners! Lets make sure and shoot more from outside the box at st james park lads!

    1. I think we will beat Newcastle but I am really worried by our home form. We are easy to play at home. Other teams play defensively and our slow passing makes easy for other teams. Fans have also lost faith in Wenger at the emirates so they dont show any passion.

    2. @Greg……..quit being overLy positive…….. There are serious matters on ground which even ur positivity can do nothing about……. Go to bed now….COYG!

  9. kick start?… What again? ?
WTF! ? Come Christmas we will still have the same headlines on here ?
” BOXING DAY! … FINALLY ARSENAL TO KICK START THEIR SEASON” ???

    1. Maybe it’s time to invest in a new bike,
The kick start is well and truly f##ked on this one ?

  10. BREAKING NEWS- Arsene Wenger just confirmed that he will sign 2 new players before the window closes.

  11. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is available for only £4.5 million and could join either Manchester United or Arsenal this summer. The Swede has won everything apart from the Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain, and has been rumoured to be on his way out of the club this summer. He scored 19 goals in Ligue 1 last season, and would represent an incredible bargain at the rumoured price. (Daily Mail)

    1. No thank you. Either 1. Cavanai and Matuidi (praying) OR 2. Lewandowski and Gotze (won’t happen)

  12. Bayern Munich- Vidal and Costa
    Barcelona- Turan and Alex Vidal
Real Madrid- Casilla, Danillo and Kovacic
Ath Madrid- Martinez, Vieto, Savic, Luis Felipe, Carrasco
    arsenal – cech

  13. Just f*ck off… Every game you say its the perfect game to kick-start arsenal season. Same sh*t you spewed in the first game.

Just know that real champions have kick started their season from the very first day. Always 2 players short of the title since the past 3 seasons.

Mark this “Ramsey comes good this season, he gets an interest from an ambitious club, he’s gone”. A closer look at him shows he believes not in the team even when he’s the chief fuc*ed player. Same thing with Ozil.

  14. @money talks take it easy ok? we are all hurting.I for once just don’t want to see the face of Wenger on my tv set. he is a deluded old man who has ruined his legacy.

  15. Yes, you are desperate, maybe not as much as I am becuz at the moment I’d gladly welcome back Chahmak (duh!!! Spelt anyhow)

  16. I would love to see Joel Campbell playing on Saturday……. There is a star….. he is full of tricks his passes are sweet and he can turn on you with passe
Joel Cambpell my well be the star of epl

    1. Adebayor, Chamakh, Bendtner and Podolski, they don’t seem bad now do they.

About Joel campbell. He wasn’t even on the bench against Liverpool, Wenger will sell him, or use him as a bargaining chip if he tries to get a player from Spain or Portugal.

After Liverpool game Wenger said ‘we still have Welbeck and Wilshere to comeback’ didn’t mention Joel or why he wasn’t on the bench atleast. Didn’t even mention Rosicky.

As soon as the window closes our players will go down injured, then we will have injury crisis as usual then have to limp to January then fight for 4th place.

  17. Fool. How much of a flop was
Antonio? By the way, am I from Sweden? And what makes u. Think I’d spell every name correctly??? Don’t be an idiot. If Reyes was really much of a flop like u are saying, I wonder what you’d make of a guy like Giroud, cuz last I checked Reyes was pretty versatile and fast (perhaps not anymore).

I blame Google for the stupidity of guys like u who go read up only to come back and argue like u know.

  18. North east England in winter is a graveyard for southern clubs so it`s just as well we`re going up there in autumn. Arsenal have not found their rhythm as yet and a club like Newcastle could run them ragged. Also, I read they have some new blood so the outcome is hard to predict . Like `Scousers`, `Geordies’ let you know they`re about. Score…2-3 to Arsenal
