Nice president hints that Arsenal-target Seri could be sold quickly

Although we are getting conflicting reports about Arsenal’s pursuit of Thomas Lemar, the latest rumours are saying that we have turned our attention to the Nice midfielder Jean-Michel Seri, who is although thought to be a target for our great rivals Tottenham.

And now the Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivère has announced that the club are looking to offload two players so that they can get funds in to pay for their new targets for next season, and he expects the deals to be confirmed quite quickly. “There should be three or four more arrivals, and two departures,’ Rivere told L’Equipe.

“We want to finish these as soon as possible, but certain cases take more time than others.

“I think we will manage, because these last ones should be finalised faster than those from last year.”

I seriously hope that he is talking about Arsenal, as I much prefer the idea of bringing in a 26 year-old proven performer than a 21 year-old who would be arriving on the back of just one good season in Ligue 1, especially as Monaco are demanding ridiculous prices for all their players, while Seri’s release clause is just 36m euros…

Who would you rather we went for?

    1. Hey admin for the umpteenth time, stop confusing yourself. Seri is bought to play in Santi’s position and Lemar another type of player to play in another position. Seri isn’t a Lemar alternative.

      1. Have you seen Seri play ? (a genuine question) – I only looked at the videos on youtube and I don’t see what he brings to the team which we already do not have. A santi replacement is not just about creative play but (1) having the discipline to play in defensive midfield and (2) ability to dribble out of tight spaces. The only player in the world who is similar to Santi and is an upgrade is Veratti and we will not be able to get him in a million years. I would wait and give Jack a last chance rather than buying “another ” midfielder.

  1. I’d take both. Seri is clearly Santi’s replacement. And Lemar is a winger, so he would play in Sanchez’s spot when he leaves.

  2. Poking ur nose every where looking for rumour from lemar to sanchez; seri to bale.. Linkin us wit everything dat can kick d round lada those dat have one leg ar not excepted..God help us!

  3. “as I much prefer the idea of bringing in a 26 year-old proven performer than a 21 year-old who would be arriving on the back of just one good season in Ligue 1…”

Errmmm, absolutely nobody knew of Seri either 12 months ago.. Wasn’t really making name for himself eh?

So in terms of one good season, they are both on the same line though Seri is 4 years older..

    1. It would be astute of Arsenal in our position to find the next future star such as Coutinho or Mane since we can’t afford to buy proven talents. Hence if we can get Seri for a lower price then I’d say it’s probably worth a gamble.

  4. with the yoghurt man its all fantasy football but i could live with this as a hyper attacking first 11 and if sanchez left might want a more robust midfielder

    lemar sanchez lacazette
    ozil
    seri xhaka
    saead mustafi kos bellerin

      1. yep but he isnt a classic number 9 … barca have got it right with there front 3 and obviously this aint that level but think it would frighten the hell out of most defences

  5. Seri is the nearest player to Santi Cazorla around. He is vastly improved. Probably the most important signing we could make at the moment. He has about 5 years at top level left. Other than him Mahrez would suit us and would be a very dangerous player for us.

  6. I’m tired of these rumors liking us to every player that can kick a ball. If AW wants to sign Seri, he should do so quickly. All this dithering on player signing is killing me.

  7. The man is quoted as saying that he wants to do a deal quickly. That’s means that Wenger has no chance of buying him.

  8. I’m waiting for the day , Arsenal will be linked with my own dead old Asamoah Gyan ………I mean , these rumours are too much. SERI really…..the guy has never been called to the Ivorian National team if my memory serves me right

  9. Could anyone describe his play style? Heard about him a lot but honestly haven’t seen him play.
Btw if he is cazorla type, it`s almost not gonna happen because wenger clearly rates xhaka as cazorla replacement. Using 2 deep lying playmaker is not gonna work either because they will be positioned too deep and create space with AM. Imagine 2 Michael Carrick LOL. Arsenal needs a dynamic CM/b2b IMO

    1. Seri is 26 years old from ivory coast

      Strengths
He is very good at passing, through balls and long shots like Cazorla. He is very much like Cazorla or Rosicky. He plays well in box2box, deep lying CM and behind the striker in Ozil position. He is a maestro in central midfield.

      Weaknesses
He isn’t good in the air and isn’t very good at tackling. He is quiet so not a leader type.

      1. @Arsenal_Girl
Thank you for the overview. Seems like a good all around technical midfielder and would be a nice addition to the squad.

        1. So how is he different from Xhaka. I thought Xhaka exactly does what you just mentioned.

  10. it is a case of you pays yer money . oh , sorry , you refuse to pay the money until they go someone else.
leon would do me , but not interested in mahrez so lemar would be an exciting gamble

  11. Same shanannigans from Wenger every transfer window, he goes after a player he is fully aware
that he’s not gonna or has no intention of getting. He will end shopping in the bargain basement again. that’s been is modus thebn complains that we cant compete,, LOOSER

  12. Like many of us predicted – CRICKETS in the transfer room at Arsenal!! Absolutely ZERO change from the few years gone by! These guys at Arsenal say the SAME THINGS every year, and the same fans get all worked up, saying, “this is finally the year we change!”. Total BS!!! There is so much on the table now concerning ins, outs, contract extensions, etc., what a huge pile to deal with while preparing for the new season! Wenger and Co. have NOT CHANGED, WILL NOT CHANGE, and here we are . . . 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 . . . . on and on! Same BS!!

“We are going to bring-in several players”; :We have a huge war chest of cash to splash”: “we will show ambition to challenge for the title” . . . . broken record my friends, broken record . . . . Even if we do get another player or two, what has already transpired at Arsenal IS a carbon-copy of years gone by.

  13. Why is it every single arsenal fan can see what we need but wenger can’t?

We are only two very good players away from seriously challenging for EPL

    1. Wow, a welcome change from the usual ‘we need three players to compete ‘
Two it is then. Who else has ‘2’? ‘2’ going… going….

  14. Everyone knows we need a vieria type player” but who knows more all us football fans or wenger I really ask myself who’s rite and it has be wenger it has be he’s manager our great club he knows way more than all us but why does he not want a player that gives us strength in midfield somebody help me it has be football reasons he wants pure football players a touch of art a philosophy, Steven nzonzi would be a very good signing for us there’s our new viera rite there’s.

  15. I stop commenting the moment I realized that it’s another new Arsenal transfer season. Wenger hasn’t changed a bit.. Morata was sold, they want to sell Aubameyang.. Mahrez like it at Arsenal.. James got loaned for two years.. Monaco was raided even twice atimes by other teams.. we couldn’t lift a single player from Monaco for almost four weeks now.. Tell me, are we still going to compete???
I think I need to ask
