Arsenal COULD still secure Schneiderlin transfer

It appears that the Arsenal transfer rumours connecting the club with a summer swoop for the Juventus and Chile midfield warrior Arturo Vidal were either exaggerated or just wrong in the first place, unless Arsene Wenger has had a recent change of mind, maybe due to his drink-driving antics?

While just a few days ago there were reports in the media suggesting that the Gunners had all but snapped up the 28-year old team mate of our star man Alexis Sanchez, it now seems that the football journos were just jumping on the bandwagon and getting themselves in a transfer rumour frenzy. The more trustworthy source of The Telegraph has reported that any plans Arsenal had for Vidal are now over.

The paper suggests that the form of Coquelin is one factor in this, but another is that Vidal is more of a box to box player and with Ramsey, Cazorla, Wilshere, Rosicky and the Ox already at the club, Arsenal do not need Vidal. So a lot of us are thinking that Wenger is not going to sign a central midfielder, especially after the media also reported that Morgan Schneiderlin was poised with pen in hand over a contract to play for Man United.

Not so according to a report in The Mirror in which the Southampton boss Ronald Koeman declares that his club are nowhere near any agreement with United.

He said, “We have the situation with Morgan Schneiderlin, we will have to wait what will happen. Until now, we have not a serious bid for him from Man United.

“We will wait, but OK – that’s business that normally starts from now. It’s no problem – it’s the first day.”

So there is plenty of time for Wenger to get in on the act and sign Schneiderlin as proper competition or cover for Coquelin. The question is, will he?

  1. Oh great… Manager comments inspiring hope for a potential Schneid’s deal just after I’d resigned to United grabbing him?? Not ideal 🙁

  2. I’d love schneiderlin but I just don’t see wenger splashing that much for a DM. I do see him spending a good amount of money on an attacker, you know wenger is an attack minded thinker that’s where he wants to spend the money

  3. Hey, let’s set our priorities right, here is our possible lineup:
    Cech (hehehe)
    Bellerin Mert Kos Monreal
    Coq Cazorla(Ramsey)
    Ox Cazorla(Ozil) Sanchez
    Giroud

Can you see where are the weak links? Giroud and Mert, I’m not gonna argue on that … Let’s start with Mert, if Wenger has the believe in Gab and willing to give him the chance to be a starter, then fine, I’m happy with Mert and Chamber as a backup (No need to buy CB) …

WE MUST BUY SOMEONE who can make the difference, look I see only Ox and Sanchez are capable of breaking top defenses, Ox isn’t reliably fit (injuries) and Sanchez can have bad days, so we must buy a striker with the same caliber of Sanchez (not size) to stand any chance of winning the epl title ….

I just love it when I see our manager being ruthless by bringing better players (Happy to sign Cech), but first comes first … Why it is Ospina and Coq and not Giroud/Welbeck (I’m looking at all of you)? If signing DM means no striker coming this summer I will be so so GUTTED …

  4. I’m truly, taken a back to the thought that all of that solid inside information on Vidals imminent transfer turned out to be nothing more than media spin!!!:0

    I really am…

    FFS people!!!

  5. Arsenals second tier.
    8 quota players
    Szcz Gibbs, Chambers
    Wilshere Walcott
    Oxlade Gnabry
    Wellbeck
    The washed up foreign lesion.
    Mertz Podolsk Rosicky Arteta Flamini.
    Campbell Sanogo.
    15 barely adequate players.
    More than half the squad.

  6. I read he has enormous wage demands (in the area of sanchez/ozil) I’m not sure if Arsene would and should agree on that. Plus we should be looking at Krychowiak as a good alternative that dude is a tank and would probably be more humble in his wage and starting demands, plus he’s more a DM than both Schneiderlin and Vidal.

Don’t get me wrong Schneiderlin is still my favorite target to sign but we might have to spend our cash better in order to strike in the last week of the window for a marquee signing (?)

  7. Cech, Sczesz, Debuchy, Bellerin, Kos, Mertz, Gab, Chambers, Gibbs, Monreal, Coquelin, Arteta, Ramsey, Wilshere, Cazorla, Rosicky, Ozil, Theo, Ox, Sanchez, Giroud, Welbz.

22 players who are more than capable of contributing to our campaign.
Only a complete and utter moron would be focusing on Podolski, Sanogo, Campbell and Flamini to push up the numbers in their sulky little lists when they’re halfway out the door..
You’d seriously prefer to clutch at straws than look at the positivity surrounding the club? It’s pathetic…

  8. doubt it his rep’s demandsa re too much don’t think wenger will negotiate with such people as far as William carvalho goes that too looks unlikely given his agent is Jorge mendes, wenger has never worked with him + mendes also happens to be mourinho’s best friend/agent

feel main target is vidal if not wenger could go after lars bender

  9. Exactly!!!…will he??…that’s just it…but sometimes I wonder how the professor thinks…yes!he is the boss and all that…but sometimes you need not ponder much before u make some decisions…morgan is top class and is premier league proven,so why the delay??…or wait!!..is it cause of the price tag(which obviously he has a problem with)??….morgan sneiderin is worth every penny asked for…believe me if it were mouriho’e,he would av made d deal within 5mins…so why is wenger delaying a move for a player we sure need in out squad…..with morgan in d squad,we can finally switch back to the 4-2-3-1 formation with coquelin and morgan playing the 2 defensive midfield position against big and tough teams…that’s huge!!!….This are bright times at the emirates…we don’t need haggle price anymore..so I say…GET HIM!!…#COYGs

  10. @ chris_masters. I concur with every word all I hope and pray for is Wenger should do the same.

  11. The squad we have is obviously full of quality and on the up with back to back FA cups. But if we want to add something else than an FA cup (and don’t get me wrong I’m happy to win it every time) this is the summer to splash some money! Schneiderlin is one of the best DM in our league. Pros: (1) he has experience of the EPL and has been one of the best performers of his club for many years (2) He is entering in his prime (3) Signing him will make sure that other teams can’t add quality & depth (Spurs & Man U) at the same time making that position one of the strongest in the squad. Cons: High salary; for the same price maybe better options available; could make Le Coq feel not trusted and slow down his progress. Price shouldn’t be an issue but wouldn’t mind him going for let’s say Carvalho.
