Norwich deserved the point – says Wenger and Ramsey

All Arsenal fans are up in arms about the Gunners dropping two points at Norwich yesterday, and even worse we have sustained three more injuries to key players that we can ill afford to do without right now. Arsene Wenger felt that Norwich played a defensive game and deserved the point.

Le Prof told Arsenal.com: “…..It was a difficult game. We played against a Norwich side that was at the top level physically and focused. They were well organised and they played every time with 10 players in their own half, and we were not incisive enough. Maybe the turning point of the game was maybe we dropped a little bit after scoring straight away and allowed them back into the game.

“In the second half I felt we had to dig deep to get though as we were a bit jaded and we lost players. Cazorla played on one leg and of course we played Kosicelny at the start of the game so it was, I would say, a fair point for Norwich and it was on the injury front a bad afternoon for us.”

Wenger is very worried that the injuries suffered by Alexis, Koscielny and Cazorla could be serious, but he certainly does not think they were caused by being overplayed. He said: “You have plenty of players across Europe who play every single game and at the moment we are short as Walcott is not there, Welbeck is not there, Oxlade-Chamberlain is just coming back. I can take a gamble on one and in case I can take a gamble on another one.”

He thinks that Cazorla’s injury could be bad and he was asked who he will now play in that position in the meantime. He said: “We have Ramsey. I can understand you worry for us, but trust us, we will be there.”

So Ramsey got back just in time, and he is happy that has now got some game time, although he also thought that Norwich deserved the draw. “It was good to be back out here and to get some minutes under my belt,” he said. “Hopefully I can get a few more games under my belt to get my fitness levels back up.

“It was obviously a bit disappointing to go a goal up and to concede that goal was a bit disappointing from our view, but to be fair they did well and they deserved to get a point out of the game. We just will have to up our game in our next match.

“They didn’t make it easy for us. They played a few long balls at times and it was difficult to get he ball down and get our pressing on but they did really well and probably a draw was a fair result.

“Every game is important at the moment, it is so tight so we don’t want to drop any points. We don’t want to have to play catch up but we will see at the end of the season and we will want to bounce back and get back to winning ways on Saturday.”

Arsenal are definitely going through a blip at the moment with just two draws from three games, but Wenger says that this is normal for all teams and we have ended up quite lucky as we are sill ony two points away from the top of the table. He concluded: “We have to go through that spell. We had a bad spell of a few games now with Tottenham, West Brom and today we only have taken two points but we are still not far and going through a bad spell and not being far. It is not enough but at least we had an opportunity to come back.”

So we now have a week for our players to recover before facing Sunderland, but we will be waiting nervously to find out the scan results on our newly injured, so let’s just keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best…..

  1. To be fair, Norwich played the park-the-bus system usually against their open play system. But having said that, we allowed them the space to create that goal scoring chance, which is actually naive from players and not Wenger. Do you think Wenger will not advise them defensively to close down players? Yes Wenger prepares them for the match, but he can’t help us more if tactics are not properly executed. The only thing I can see Wenger can be blamed of is about Sanchez’s injury.

    1. Like it or not europa league here we come!

If we can’t get pass the little Canaries parked bus,
Who have been hit for 6 this season, we have absolute no chance of getting pass Olympiakos’s Mountain sized bus!

    2. The reason we lost is the same reason we always have for the past decade. STUPID GOALS Why ? Without Coquelin and Sanchez we looked like the old Arsenal we hate to support

    1. @fatboy gooney
Last I checked Norwich were a professional football team in the EPL. Comprised of seasoned professional footballers, lead by a very competent Manager. They’re standing in the league doesn’t mean they don’t have the ability to beat any other team on the day…

      1. Don’t worry mate ..
Arsenal are very Generous in giving points to teams that haven’t beaten us in 10 years! ??

        West Ham
        West Brom
        Norwich
        who’s next ?
no need for pushing in… the offer stands throughout this season, just form a orderly queue! ?

  2. At this rate we will have no outfield players left to field by Christmas

Pep Guardiola is free in the summer before he joins City lets rethink our options, as much as i love the guy but AW will not budge his stance on buying players when needed, one a year is not cutting it in the EPL and CL

  3. But to look on the positive side, we have not won for three games, but we are still only two points from the top of the league!

    1. That’s the only positive from the game yesterday unfortunately. Lucky us EPL is becoming mediocre or competitive, depends which way you look at it.

    2. Yes, you’re right about that, but that’s not good enough for a miserable fat xxxx like me ?
We should have been 5pts clear at the top by now.

Even the Gorgeous destiny is trying to help us out here,
By making the other top teams drop points,
As well as presenting Giroud with untold chances to score!
But she can only do so much ???

Oh look at the time..my psychiatrist won’t be at all pleased
      With meeee ????

  4. I’ve just checked through the 5 up coming Arsenal BPL&Ucl fixtures: Sunderlan(H) Olympiacos(Ucl-A) Aston Villa(A) Man City(H) Southampton(A) and Bournemouth(H). The Gunners should be abled to deal with these 5 fixtures successfully before the turn of the year despite the recent disappointments we’ve suffered in our last 3 games imo. Nevertheless, the Boss should take note of the current stetergy of: Pack The Bus And Then Counter Attack Them To Score. Tottenham Hotspur 1st used it at the Emirates Stadium. West Brom saw it and used it succesfully. The Norwich used it well too to get a point yesterday. The Boss& the Gunners MUST device a way to neutralized any Packing the Bus to counter teams, and expire that hindrance in Arsenal games victory, starting from our home game against Sunderland. Despite the injuries to our Duracell Bunny, Cazorla and Koscielny, Ramsey&the OX have returned to the squad and Walcott is expected back very soon. Therefore, the Boss will still have enough quality Gunners to select from.

  5. Hopefully, now Wenger would be forced to strengthen in the January window. Even he cant assume that we are good enough to win league matches with these many injuries. We need backup especially at DM. While the amount of injuries is getting is ridiculous. This isn’t the worst part of the season to get a bad run of form. If we can pick up good points in the Christmas fixtures and have a run like last season in the second half, we should be ok.

However there have been two injuries that can be attributed just to Wenger: Walcott and Sanchez. He got both of those calls wrong. Sending Theo without proper warm-up and playing Alexis despite a fitness alarm. Another key mistake was not buying backup to Coq. Every time without Coq, I am nearly always sure our defence would concede once. We would have probably got nothing yesterday if it wasn’t for Cech’s outstanding saves.

He needs to sort it out quickly. We cannot afford to make so many big mistakes in management and play on the field if we want to have title aspirations. But we are only two points off the top so thats fine. But we cant keep relying on others to keep slipping up. It will stop happening. We need to improve our performance levels to those which we showed versus MU and Bayern at home.

    1. Well said ?

But I’m afraid it is impossible to assume anything positive with wenger!
      Because:
He is by far the most deludedbeing the world has ever seen,
And it’s…Ar – sène Wen – ger! … Arsene Wenger AKB!

      ?????

    2. Nope, he’s gonna bring in an academy player who will have a breakthrough year Ramsey style and then he’ll use the young player to justify his need not to buy in January.
