Official Arsenal team and preview of Liverpool opener

Arsenal could really do with making a good start to this latest chase for the Premier League title, especially after both Manchester United and Man City got off to winning starts this weekend, but the squad situation is far from ideal for Arsene Wenger so the schedule of us facing Liverpool today and then Leicester City next week is far from ideal.

Next weekend the Frenchman should be able to call on Laurent Koscielny, Mesuyt Ozil and Olivier Giroud once again and we might even have signed another player or two by then, but for now the Gunners need to make the most of what we have in this potentially very tough test against a hard pressing Jurgen Klopp side.

I think that concerns about the pressure Liverpool will put us under has influenced the team selection of Wenger as well, as the summer signing Granit Xhaka and the silky skills of Santi Cazorla have been left on the bench, with the more combative and Premier League experienced trio of Coquelin, Elneny and Ramsey preferred in midfield.

As expected the central defence is made up of the youngsters Holding and Chambers, while THeo Walcott has been given the central striking role. The other big decision for the boss was about who to play on the right and he has gone for Alex Iwobi over Oxlade-Chamberlain and Campbell, with the Costa Rican not even making the subs bench.

Cech
Bellerin, Holding, Chambers, Monreal
Coquelin, Elneny,
Iwobi, Ramsey, Alexis Sanchez
Walcott

Subs: Ospina, Gibbs, Wilshere, Xhaka, Cazorla, Oxlade-Chamberlin, Akpom.

It is a strong looking bench but also a strong Liverpool side with Mane, Lallana, Coutinho and Wijnaldum, so we need a strong showing from the Gunners today. Will we get it?

Bob.

  1. Thing is I’m not angry or shocked I’m now used to this mediocrity and numb to it. That what Arsene has done to me. Ps good work smashing holdings confidence!

    1. well said. I don’t see how any Arsenal fan can be shocked by this performance. We’re definitely used to it as well at this point.

  2. 3-4.

LOL. Just torture, isn’t it? Just kill us and be done with it. Why the torture?

  3. I guess Liverpools just as lost as we are,
Klopp seem to have never taught these guys how to hold a lead????????

      1. He was obviously protecting the back four, that was plain to see. Neville himself pointed out that they done a great job in the first half, and even in the second it was terrific goals that outdone us.

  4. I stopped complaining about Wenger as I am too far from London to actually protest the way I would want to. I really don’t get how people still go to the Stadium to support a team with such manager and board. No Ambition at all!! Boycott 5 games in a row and see how quick they will react to loss of income.

  5. Wenger is no longer a winner. He’s a top 4 manager. That’s all he’ll ever be with us. He doesn’t have what it takes to be a champion anymore. If you’re happy with that then more power to you. I’m not, I want him out.

  6. Well First game, First Home game and First Loss of the season

Losing @ Home always sucks the most, no matter who its against

    🙁

  7. Is there anything left to say we have not said, is there anything left to see we have not seen before, is there anything we are going to hear from Wenger now we have not heard before?

  8. will say it again as for the last 6 seasons … wenger cannot deliver trophies to arsenal because he is tired arrogant and delusional and puts corporate priorities above those of fans … that walmart crook needs to go asap and the only way is if income stream dries up because that is all arsenal is to this guy

  9. Well, another opening defeat. I can only hope this gets Arsene to push the boat out and bring us what we want, top signings. I understood why we played that starting line up, but it backfired due to liv scoring amazing goals, which will make the decision look worse than it was. Alexis, he looks like he should be great in the CF position, but in reality he is better running from wide, Arsene needs to realise this. A silly free kick changed the whole dynamic.

    1. R u kiddin me… that old fool will come out and ssy we missed important playres hence we lost..

  10. It’s just not losing at home in the first game that is ridiculous…

It’s losing with FOUR goals with Liverpool newly signed players scoring that annoys me.

And some point it was even 1-4 to Liverpool.

And yet a stubborn manager and board is contented with HOLDING, when he has 3 regular CB’s out, signing Mustafi taking so long like we want to sign Lionel Messi

    It’s just a shame
