Official Arsenal XI and preview for Bayern in Munich

As if Arsenal needed anything else to go against us as we prepare to face the German champions Bayern Munich on their own turf thanks to another typically hard draw for the Gunners, but the bit of hope that we had been given with the news of Xabi Alonso picking up an injury has been snuffed out.

Whether it was just a con all along we do not know but the Spaniard starts today, while our own injury blow was clearly true because Lucas Perez is not even in the matchday squad. That was not one of the major issues going into this massive game though, but it certainly does not help us.

The big questions ahead of this game were about Mesut Ozil, who does start despite his poor recent form, and the attacking line-up. Arsene Wenger has decided to stick with the same old same old and I think he may have missed a trick as I would love to have seen Danny Welbeck given a run out, but the only real surprise for me is Gibbs starting ahead of Monreal.

Ospina
Bellerin, Mustafi, Koscielny, Gibbs
Xhaka, Coquelin, Oxlade-Chamberlain
Ozil, Iwobi, Alexis Sanchez

Subs: Cech, Gabriel, Monreal, Elneny, Walcott, Welbeck, Giroud.

I do hope that the team picked by Wenger plays well and at least keeps us in the hunt for the home leg but I believe that Wenger has picked the team that Bayern would expect and I expect it to be another tough night for Arsenal. Can they prove me wrong?

Bob.

  1. this team should just dissolve.. its embarrassing we are a disgrace every one of us the owner, the management, the manager, the players and yes the fans too.. some are fickle and some are dreamers

    1. WHOA krish hello mate u changed your tune

youve loved wenger forever – whats happned? finally folded hahaha

  2. How can Wenger not keep a tie within touching distance, you don’t even need to win the away match. Same story again, chasing the tie in the first leg.

    1. erm same as every year krish which is why we have asked for new manager.

      only now u realised …amazing

  3. Time to face facts people. Arsenal are in the top 5 richest clubs in the world, but do we ever actually see the benefits of this on the pitch? NO. With the money this club throws around each season, we should be able to go toe to toe with clubs like Bayern and Barca etc. But yet all I see is a club full of over paid, overrated players and most of all a manager that couldn’t light a fire under his players backsides if he had the power of the sun at his disposal. Each and every year we experience the same f*****n bs, we get humiliated in the EPL and CL.

Tired of it. Sanchez will be gone end of the season. Ozil will probably stay on because he is as spineless as our manager.

      1. I had given Wenger the benefit of the doubt up until last season, only reason being we won two consecutive F.A cups and brought in some good players. It was an achievement prior 2012 to have stayed in the top four, especially with all our best players leaving each season and also the initial stadium expenses. But since then, financially we have actually strengthened but yet we just have not really progressed in terms of silverware. Through all this change, there is one common denominator and that’s the manager. This is why he MUST be the problem.

  4. Ozil back to strolling around. Not that he wasn’t doing it earlier. You can’t make this stuff up folks. We played worse this season though, so I guess that’s the positive?

    1. Yep. Bring on some of the supporters. Bring on Claude, DT and Troopz. The three of them will at least put up more of a fight!

  5. I often heard Wenger saying “getting the balance right” referring to the offensive and defensive parts of the game but where is the balance then?

  6. said it once already and I’ll say it again… defenders are a bunch of clowns!, they’re obviously trying to make us laugh… they need Kos to direct them what to do.

  7. How many times has Lahm been able to terrorize our defense? He’s about to retire and he’s running our players rampant.

  8. Don’t usually defend him but the third goal had nothing to do with Wenger. Mustafi shouting at ox and iwobi for standing off the passer of the ball to Lewandoski. Whilst mustafis shouting his not concentrating on thiago. Comedy of errors. I blame ox and iwobi for dropping their heads when we went 2 to 1 down.

    1. It’s all Wenger. These are his players. Same mistakes, different personnel, but same loser mentality for the past decade. It’s not about individual incidents. The entire club has made mediocre the new normal.

    1. Good Question mate,
From where we stand its just another stage to our yearly-nearly slapstick- list of Humiliations.
We do just fine humiliating ourselves against the likes of watford, Everton and southampton, we really don’t need the extra input from truly worldclass teams

  9. “Insanityity: Doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results”

    – Albert Einstein

Can someone get a doctor for AW?

  10. Embarrassing? Not rlly bec we are used to this already. Kinda sad, but thats what you get for accepting a loser mentality, and supporting a manager who should be gone 8 years before already.

  11. just heard the commentator say “Arsenal is being arsenalled”… can it get any more humiliating than this… wenger must be a really thick skinned guy to cling on to the job even after so much humiliation

  12. Any mid table plan team would have done better than us tonight. Lack of belief and too much fear. We should have played ozil.

  13. Honestly, I can’t see arsenal archive anything under Wenger anymore. He’s finished. I don’t see a manager in his real sense playing a player like ozil weeks in week out with that kind of performance. WeWenger out.

  14. lack of sharpness in the second term , mental attitude..bla, bla, bla..GO GO AND GO ..take the Average ones with YOU. We had enough.

  15. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES ARSENE. IT IS TIME TO SAY GOODBYE. WE ARE TIRED OF YOU ARSENE. WE NEED A CHANGE.

  16. Pls someone should ask me why I am still supporting arsenal? Maybe for the hope that Wenger will leave one day . I hate him soo much

  17. Absolute joke, all of them should be ashamed.

Will I bother going to the return match, can’t see me bothering to be honest, this was just plain humiliating.

Sanchez going, Ozil going (don’t care).

Wenger has to go after this, no ifs or buts.

An unprofessional, lazy performance, that not even a Championship team could justify.

At this point, I wouldn’t mind finishing 7th in the League, no european football, new manager, and some new players who will fight for a result, it really looks like we need to re-build.

  18. I think we do have the players, but not the man management. Surely you reward the players who are putting in effort, and rest the ones who are not – otherwise there is little motivation to do well. Real blow with Kos – if DW was on with his speed and agility, against their aged defence, our defence might not have been under such pressure, and Kos may not have been injured. Full marks to Ospina – zero to Wenger.

  19. Wenger should just leave our team alone. he is a dictator who refused Henry a chance to coach the under 18s because he dosent want to have a successor. All other teams are grooming their former players except him!. He is just clueless!
