Official teams and preview of Arsenal v Hull City

Arsenal really need to be on the ball today to make sure that we get the right result in the first game towards defending the FA cup trophy we won back in May. It might seem tough to have to face the same opponents, Hull City, as in that Wembley final, but this is no time to feel sorry for ourselves.

With a week to go before Stoke City come to the Emirates in the Premier League, Wenger will want his players to squeeze every ounce of effort from their legs. And the boss has also made a few changes, partly for fresh legs and partly to give some fringe players a chance, as he does in these early cup rounds.

The big news for Arsenal is that Theo Walcott starts his first game since injusring his cruciate ligaments against Spurs a year ago.

Ospina
Bellerin, Chambers, Mertesacker, Monreal
Coquelin, Rosicky, Cazorla
Walcott, Alexis, Campbell

subs: Martinez, Debuchy, Koscielny, Zelalem, Maitland-Niles, Chamberlain, Akpom

Arsenal fans should not worry too much about having a weakened starting line-up though, as Steve Bruce has kept just one player, Curtis Davies, from the team that beat Everton on new years day. So as long as we go about this the right way, we should sewe an Arsenal win, just like we did at Wembley six months ago.

Such a shame it’s against Hull, a team that never leaves their own box. Pace won’t count for too much today.

    2. rpk

Replace Cazorla with Ox. Everyone will run like crazy. Don’t under-estimate Rosicky, he his very quick.

  1. Greg

I believe with this team we have enough “fire power” to beat hull! But our defense must still be focus and not complacent! Coyg!

  2. vijaygunner

i see he still doesn’t have the balls to drop per for someone like isaac hayden oh well go campbell!!!

  3. rpk

I know this GUY will not rest Alexis and Cazorla..they are burning out. Mark my word they will get injured soon….

    1. YingYang69

Yes… but who would you play instead of them, and bear in mind the outcry which would come with a defeat.

      1. rpk

Akpom deserves a chance, he would have come for Alexis. Alexis really needs rest. Ox in place of Cazorla. If we are ahead in first half, replace Ox with Zalelam/Niles, otherwise replace him with Cazorla. Alexis and Cazorla really needs rest, they are stand-out players. We shouldn’t loose them with injury.

    1. YingYang69

All the same though per is our second best cb and still the best we have to pair with kos… whether people like it or not.

Hull have made 10, yes TEN changes to the team that played in epl this week. And we are still milking Alexis Sanchez and cazorla for every single minute. When will they get a rest? This is absolutely bad man management by Wenger. We are at home but still afraid to give youngsters a chance. Alexis should have been on the bench and should be on if we were trailing like city introduced Silva and nasri in 65th min, manutd brought di Maria in 70th, Chelsea brought costa and Willian in 46th min. Alexis and cazorla will be playing from the kick.off.

    1. YingYang69

Hull are prioritising… we on the other hand are going for the only silverware we are likely to have a chance at. I reckon this is the only time this season that hull have not gone with their best players.

A win will be a win and we don’t have another game for a week and I guess sanchez will always be chomping at the bit.. So unless Arsene has another amazing deal up them long sleeves of his, sanchez will be cream crackered around the time we play 2nd leg of CL tie..!
My only hope today (never want a player injured) but that lanky tree from Lord of the rings needs to take time out and have a 3 month sabbatical somewhere far away from us and hope Arsene signs 2 yes TWO defenders because we need them this window!

  6. john0711

We should win this we have a quality attack and this is basically their res team, please all you AKB brigade watch Mert, not when he has the ball watch how he hides in games

  7. Me

Wenger strengthens the team by allowing players to go out on loan.

And people wonder why Arsenal always struggle….

  8. Mick The Gooner

A good commanding header, why do we usually waste Mertesacker at the near post at corners?

      1. gooner100

Er unlike usual AOB meaningless bs that’s a fair comment…per is normally wasted at the near post.

  9. CraigZWE

Aaarg what a play, this is the Arsenal.

rozza on form again, only player not to pass backwards.

Also Le Coq is passing well, I have preferred him in every game to Flamini.

  10. phil-thompsons-nose

A goal is a goal but he’s still our worse player.. Thumb me down but one goal doesn’t change my opinion of his ability..

    1. ArseneIsYourDaddy

Ospina has one fault, he kicks the ball with opposing players behind him. He has to get a warning. He did that in the WC too.

  11. john0711

Wow Mert scores very good but no reprieve we need a clean sheet and you doing what your supposed
Front three of Theo/Sanchez/Campell look awsome interchanging
Le coq looks very good, and SANTI is class
Ospina looks 100 more assured than Schez
Please just add a top DM and CB please

  12. CraigZWE

Campbell looked sharp in beginning but now looks tired. Doubt he will make the 90 but rather have Alexis and Theo taken off for next week

  13. Ronny331

@philtn. Yep thanks for the goal but you are still desperately poor! Ospina more assured than schez coq looking good, rosicky legend.

    1. Charlie Nick

Haven’t seen much to get excited about. He was good in WC but he looks disinterested today…funny for someone desperate to play

        1. Charlie Nick

Watch him…on his heels, standing still all the time. Has he done something I’ve missed??

  14. Ronny331

Hilarious ospina doing his best to get our baxk four to play the ball from deep, all of them passing it back to him 🙂 oh for a cb that can pick a pass!

  15. juhislihis

We just scored from a corner and what do we do? We completely f*ck up the next 2. Also f*cked the freekick at the end.

    Shameful wasting. Should be 2-0.

      1. mark

Clearly the BBC budget didn’t stretch to a well dressed pundit for Hull…looks orange, scruffy and sleazy with his 70’s medallion, shirt hardly buttoned and hair scraped into a lovely fetching bun. Cut price classy! 😉

  16. muffdiver

hull made 10 changes from the everton game?
who are they to put there b team against arsenal?
    im mildly offended

    1. RSH

they are hovering above relegation zone. Im sure if they werent in that position they would put out a better side.

  17. davidnz

    Campbell Bellerin Coquelin
    Walcott Monreal Ospina Rosicky
    all getting valuable playing time.
    A wn today v Stoke + the 4th round
may then see only one CB added in the window 🙁

  18. Ronny331

@davidnz. Wenger sending out a message that we dont need signings maybe just a cb. Bigging up coquelin in the week suggests to me no dm player is coming.

    1. davidnz

      Yes. Coqu will get more
      wraps after todays game.
Even less chance of a DM.
      Wenger prefers another AM
gives him more reason to now.

  19. Nairobigooner

Coquelin has been incredible in the middle of the park considering his limited experience at this level…he deserves a run of games to be fair.

    1. muffdiver

not the fa cup, arsenal lost there spark-
cant remember arsenal working hard for 90 mins.
no doubt we will win- but scratching my head at whats happened to us

  20. mark

We should have killed this game in the first half with 3 goals. Instead we might have a nervy half hour, unless we can score a quick goal or two..

  21. Robin Vanpayslip

Around 20 more mins before a substitution. But who will he bring on – Campbell is already on and Podolski is gone

  22. CraigZWE

I want Akpom for Sanchez and Ox for Theo.

Sanchez needs break and this Theo’s first start.

  23. Ronny331

Walcott doesn’t look right at all, first game syndrome I guess. Agree akpom and ox for 30 mins and hold one sub back.

  24. phil-thompsons-nose

Is it me or does sanchez look a bit disheartened there’s no quick interchange..? He’s looking for a pass – but there’s no runners..?
Ozil can’t come soon enough for me.. Still we need another goal otherwise hull will score..

  25. Matt

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Joel Campbell is absolutely useless and simply not good enough. So many of you on here rave about him because he stands out in the Costa-Rica national team but for Arsenal, I simply do not believe he’s particularly talented.

    1. CraigZWE

Really think he just needs game time. Doesn’t look match fit.

If he has a few more chances then maybe I would agree but for now reserved

  26. Ronny331

Our players look shattered too many players that are not match fit. Hullsoaked up our first half pressure aand are coming now. Make a change wenger!! Ps elmohamady against our defence oh s*it!

  27. phil-thompsons-nose

Sanchez is one bad challenge away from an injury that will ruin our season more than its already ruined..

  28. phil-thompsons-nose

Campbell is not arsenal – repeat not arsenal standard..
Thank god for Sanchez… Our last remaining hope..

  29. fred cowardly

Sanchez needs rest. I think he should be given rest when we play Villa at home.

I’m too scared Sanchez will get injured or burn out.

      1. ArseneIsYourDaddy

Man U had to bring on $100n million of talent to beat Yeovil. That is what teams pay the big $$$ for.

    1. gmv8

I don’t understand why Campbell was taken off instead of Ox – the last thing we need is him out for god knows how long.d

  30. Bigvalbowski

I love your contribution Nose, but cmon about J Campbell. Will he have a statue next to the king 14 outside the Emirates, uh No but for absolutely NO Quality Game time he hasn’t been terrible.
