Official teams and preview of Arsenal v Newcastle

As usual the Arsenal squad is massively depleted due to injury problems and the suspension of Calum Chambers could hardly have come at a worse time for Arsene Wenger and the club, especially with today’s visitors to the Emirates stadium coming fresh off the back of a famous victory over Chelsea.

But Newcastle United have a shocking record against the Gunners, just like we have against last weekend’s tormentors Stoke City, so hopefully that will not change. Wenger has been forced to field yet another different back four, this time with the fit again Mathieu Debuchy coming in to partner Per Mertesacker in central defence. Let us hope the Frenchman adapts quicker than Nacho Monreal did.

We also have Aaron Ramsey joining Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta and Abou Diaby on the sidelines, decimating our central midfield, so Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gets a chance to shine in the position that Wenger reckons he will one day adopt.

Olivier Giroud strats through the middle but there is still plenty of pace in our front line with Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck on either side of the big Frenchman. And if we need a goal late on there is always the trusty left foot of the prince Lukas Podolski.

Szczesny
Bellerin, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Gibbs
Flamini, Chamberlain, Cazorla
Alexis, Giroud, Welbeck

subs: Martinez, Ajayi, Coquelin, Maitland-Niles, Campbell, Sanogo, Podolski

  1. Glad that Podolski is getting playing time, but he’s not a very defensive player to bring on in this situation.

  2. Am I missing something….according to Niall Quinn this is like an even game, instead of what I see…waves of Arsenal attacks

    1. I know right – every Irishman seems to be a Liverpool fan.. But considering Quinn played for Arsenal I don’t think he’s exactly ‘anti-Arsenal’

  3. Bellerin is quick but he lacks toughnes in the defensive area, hes faster than THeo in acceleration

    1. didnt sound like the whole stadium at least. But in general Arsenal fans change their opinions every other week. Its why change never actually occurs. we get 4th and most of the fanbase will be happy.

  4. Some observations from today:
    – Cazorla has got his groove back
    – Giroud’s finishing has improved
    – Bellerin is FAST
    – Debuchy was a great buy
    – Alexis is one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen in our team
    Points for improvement:
    – Mertesacker isn’t playing well in my view. Makes a lot of mistakes without Koscielny there to cover for him.
    – Dat Guy makes terrible decisions sometimes. If he had a better football brain, he’d be awesome.

  5. Good goals, decent performance, ok defensively. Well done to Debuchy – great performance considering the circumstances, but for me, Cazorla is Man of the Match – a very happy birthday for him.

  6. It really feels great to win convincingly for a change

All the crap we’ve been through, we needed a good win

  7. We getting closer to our goal of 4th place.

Come on gunners. Don’t let Wenger down and get 5th or 3rd or 2nd. WEnger wants 4th.

    COYG lol

  8. I feel like that are so many unhappy Arsenal supporters who would prefer a team to lose for them to get rid of Wenger…Pathetic! The difference between supporters and the board is that the board is answerable and supporters are not. Supporters cab afford to have Wenger fired and they wont be there if that moves backfires but the board will have to explain. If I can give an example on how it is for a supporter, one on them was clamoring for Bellerin to play right back but when he didn’t perform well at Stoke that same supporter criticized Wenger for playing Bellerin….This is how it is for us supporters!!!
