Official teams and preview of Monaco v Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has made a few changes to the Arsenal starting line-up that blew West Ham away at the weekend but none of them is much of a surprise. What is a surprise is our under fire German centre back Per Mertesacker keeping his place despite the Brazilian Gabriel having come back early from injury and travelling with the squad to Monaco. Bellerin comes in for Chambers at right back.

The other two changes are Santi Cazorla coming in for Aaron Ramsey, a move clearly designed to give the Gunners as much attacking potential as possible, and Danny Welbeck replaces Theo Walcott on one side of Olivier Giroud with Alexis on the other.

It is a strong Arsenal side but we will have to be at our best to overcome a two goal deficit against a side that does not seem to concede goals. They have the likes of Moputinho, Toulalan and Kondogbia in from the start, with Berbatov up front and so it truly would be a miracle if Arsenal managed to make it into the next round.

    1. Someone tell me what ozil is on the field to do?? Hes not quick, hes not strong, he cant defend, he doesnt score and hes not even assisting

      1. Ozil is on the pitch so fans like you have someone on which to blame for any poor results.

        He is your built-in scapegoat.

    2. Are you joking? he was an absolute liability. gave the ball away and was dispossessed time and again… open your eyes man.

  1. I am a Sanchez fan but he’s been awful, ozil has been shocking and Welbeck is welbeck average sorry but that is the truth

  2. Now this is where Mertesacker should come off for me.. We are going for it and need pace at the back..

  3. COME ON ARSENAL
    COME ON ARSENAL
    COME ON ARSENAL
    COME ON ARSENAL
    COME ON ARSENAL
    COME ON ARSENAL

  4. Back to the PL and put this behind us.
And someone said what does Ozil do, thats what he does great ball to Monreal!

      1. How many teams have gone to Monaco this season and scored more than 2 goals? They are renowned for their solid defence so yes great footbal

    1. Yes thats how low we ARSENAL have become. Celebrating the fighting spirit. You know who does that? Clubs like Aston villa and WBA and West Ham. Yeah let us compete with them and support this mediocrity.

We didnt get knocked out by Barcelona, it was freaking Monaco who were shit today. We should have hammered them but we have a missing machine and a MU reject leading our attack.

      1. really, it was domination, 17 shots to 3? if you need to blame a player, ox gave up the stupid goal in the first match that made a comeback impossible, but why go there?

  5. After the second goal they just wait for something to happen in the opposition box. Bellerin was operating by himself with occasional help from Ramsey.

  6. Sanchez
    Ozil
    Welbeck
    Very poor tonight
    Not worth 93 million
At lest Sanchez HAS shown his quality this season but welbeck needs to go, he’s just a runner and ozil isn’t top quality I would take 35 for him

    1. The only thing you just showed is that you have no idea what is going on in a football match. Both Ozil and Welbeck played well in this match but Sanchez was very poor; the reason he was left on because he can still come up with that one moment and that’s what we needed even if it was at the expense of him losing possession a couple of times.

  7. We create 1 chance after the second goal at 79mins . We didn’t apply enough pressure after then other than Sanchez header.

    1. Just not enough pressure applied.

Seriously why do we always need to give ourselves a mountain to climb.

Hopefully this performance allows us to push on in league and cup.

  8. was a long shot, especially w giving up the cheap goal late in the first match, but 70% pocession, 17 shots to 3, was domination by the better side, hope we did not spend to much gas from the tank, but 2-0 on road, good match, back to EPL and FA cup

    1. im worried that we do over exert ourselves. kosc bellerin and sanchez all looked like they were close to pulling something

  9. That’s always Arsenal unfortunately…. always skin of the teeth margins… always maximum stress…. Boys were definitely up for it tonight though, doesn’t feel so bad losing if we’ve put everything in, which we didn’t do at the Emirates.

  10. Today you saw how poor a side Monaco are. They will be dismantled even by Porto in the next round. Wenger should’ve taken Sanchez of for Gibbs. Monreal was playing excellent with only once getting beaten.

  11. and another year goes by.
Dont get me wrong I appreciate wjatever trophies we rre still in.
But my personal dream is the UCL.
and we blew a big chance this year.

    1. umm, dint forget barca, madrid and munich were still ahead of us to play, this is the toughest trophey, but it will come…

  12. Mathers nothing. Damage was done weeks ago after abysmal performance at home. Hope OX is watching closely because due to his error we conceded the third back then. I would’ve taken 1-2 or even 0-2 defeat BUT..

  13. You could see the fatigue in 2nd half. Rosicky would of helped in the middle because Cazrola seemed dead out there. Great effort… needed some luck Of the Irish.

Need some squad rotation this weekend to give Ozil Sanchez Cazrola a break.

  14. Ah well same old story 1st leg puts us out ! Played well tonight it was unlucky !

Let’s be honest we want at least 3rd in the league this season extra CL games might have hindered our chances. Saying that not happy about going out to a poor Monaco team.

  15. Celebrating mediocrity thats how low we have become. We are freaking knocked out by the weakest team left in Champions league and here we are celebrating the 2 goals scored. How many chances did we have? it was not like we were playing some Barca or Real madrid , it was monaco for god sake. We loss each season and fans make excuses and try to hide our flaws behind the bush.

    Shame

  16. could’t really expect more from this team they gave it a good shot maybe Monaco just defending well at the end.
when its needed the most we definitely need more cutting edge on the left wing/right wing lack off width is killing us in the big matches big money spent in the summer to rectify any major problems going forward. defense should be ok just the attacking side needs changing more pace and direct running in behind gets us a BIG NAME C/F that can do it all up front on his own we are at least 2 more big attacking names away from a least making c/l semis, but once again well done for winning on the night just shame we could get the third and make c/l history on wars and upwards in the league and f.a cup coyg

  17. Arsenal dig out a good performance and more than half the comments here are complaints about one player after another.

Arsenal win 2-0 against a strong side and half of the gunners performed so poorly??? That does not make sense to me.
