Outstanding Ozil fully deserves Arsenal Player-of-the-Year trophy

This year Mesut Ozil came into his own for Arsenal, showing everyone why he was worth every penny of the millions that Arsene Wenger splashed out on the German. There was little chance of any other player beating him to the Player of the Year trophy and so it has proved.

The only bleak spot is that that he fell one short of matching Thierry Henry’s record for the record amount of assists in the Premier League, but it was hardly from lack of trying. As an example, Ozil broke the Premier League record of creating ten chances in one game against Southampton, and despite his efforts the game finished 0-0! That does not reflect badly on Ozil but it certainly says something about the quality of finishing from our front men. With a more clinical hitman on the end of Ozil’s assists I am sure he could have easily doubled his assist total if not more. All in all he created a massive 181 chances for his team-mates, so you can imagine his disappointment when only 20 of them were actually converted into goals.

Another Premiership record he broke this year was providing an assist in seven games in a row (when we were scoring goals) and he also won three consecutive Player of the month Awards. Ozil has two years left on his contract with he Gunners and, as he said himself, he will be hoping that Wenger will be bringing in a top class striker to help him improve those figures next season…
