Ozil backs himself to steer Arsenal to BPL title

Quite a few of the Arsenal squad and Arsene Wenger himself have all suggested that the Germany international Mesut Ozil could be the difference between success and failure for the club in the season to come and that success will surely be judged on our finishing position in the Premier League table next May.

Our club record signing (for now at least) may not always be the most eye catching and dynamic looking Arsenal player on the pitch but he does seem to be the oil that lubricates our engine and when we are at our creative best, Ozil is almost always at the heart of things.

Even though the 26-year old has not had the influence that we hoped in his first two years as a Gunner, he has done some brilliant things and we have won a major trophy in each of those campaigns. THe Premier League is a long hard slog though and if Ozil is to really help us to become champions of England, he needs to avoid the injury problems that have beset him so far.

So it is good to hear him tell Arsenal Player that he is feeling fitter than ever and that he hopes this will enable him to achieve his full potential in the Arsenal team.

The German said, “I know that I have a lot more potential to show but if you look at the last two years, we’ve been successful and have won the FA Cup twice. Every season you need to prove yourself again and I want to do that again this time.

“I want to help the team as much as I can. Ultimately we have a strong team that can win everything. Our aim is to be more successful this season than we were in the last.

“I’ve noticed myself that the training sessions we’ve had here are helping me to become fitter. I want to get through pre-season without any injury and then we can see.

“I know exactly how I can use my body. We had three weeks holiday – maybe that was a bit too short – but I’m looking forward to the new season and to our new challenge.”

If Ozil does stay injury free for the whole season, will that put one Arsenal hand on the Premier League trophy?

    1. Ozil definitely needs a different type of striker than Giroud in front of him, that is for sure. Someone fast, with continuous movement off the ball would be ideal . That is why, a striker/Winger like Pedro, Abomeyang, Greizmann, Reus etc would be ideal for us, continiously changing with Theo and Sanchez, it would be our version of the Trident.
Yes, it seem that we have the money and the will to spend, lets do it, and lets do it right.

    2. Except when we get a spot kick kick from Santi and OG heads the ball into the net like he did against the likes of Joe Hart. If crosses or set pieces come in we have the best player using his head in the league. Funny but that is just as beautiful but harder to do than using your feet.

      1. Yeah yeah yeah dude…go grab your toilet paper and lotion because its almost as beautiful as missing that point blank header against Monaco. Or the one against Man City the season earlier in the 6-3 defeat and countless other chances especially with his feet.
We play ground football. We are not a f*cking crossing team. We don’t need a Giroud type striker as plan A. We need strikers that can use their feet very well and head when needed like Henry and RVP. Even Adebayor could use both.
Btw…I just learned Wenger has 200M pounds available to him for transfers, so at least 100M. Why not go bid 50M for Lewandowski? Why aren’t we moving fast on potential targets?….Wenger that’s why.

    3. Our two most ‘beautiful’ goals have been assisted by Giroud. Wilshere vs Norwich and Rosicky vs Sunderland.

  1. Im really looking forward to great things from mesut ozil in this coming season! He needs to silent his critics by stepping up and providing those trade mark killer passes that he is know for,as well as being among the goals himself! Coyg!

  2. Off Topic. Lord Harris, one of the club’s directors, has given an interview on the club’s transfer policy. An interesting read. Spoiler – he confirms that we have £200m that we could spend.

    1. ‘We get a list of the players that Wenger wants,’ said Lord Harris. ‘On the list is a centre forward, but I’m not going to tell you who he is. You’ve got to get the other team to want to sell him, but I think he wants to come. It basically comes down to whether the other team can find a superstar to replace him, because they don’t have to sell.’

      This part was very encouraging.

      1. Can’t really get a much better source than a club director. Add this to what Muzzi Ozcan guy has been saying and it makes sense.

          1. There’s quite a few articles up about it, just type ‘Lord Harris’ into Google news and one will probably come up.

          1. I’m not sure. He says We will probably have to break the club record to get the man he wants.’

I think he’s very good, but don’t think Aubameyang is a £42.5m+ (the club record) player.

To me that quote narrows the list to 4 players:
            Benzema
            Lewandowski
            Cavani
            Lacazette

            1. Ah right yea just had a look! Interesting that he says he believes the player wants to come , could be cavani

              1. I was thinking the article was definitely pointing towards Benzema until I saw that. Benzema’s agent just today said he has no intention of leaving, so does that mean it isn’t him?

                1. Yea that’s what swayed me to cavani but at the end of the day his agent is not apart of the Madrid transfer committee so if they want him to go then it’s still possible I guess . They normally sell a couple of names every season as we no so hopefully this could still happen

              2. I hope so. 55M out of 200M, sounds Cavani to me. But I still can’t believe the lord said an exact amount at the press. He might have been hyperbolic.

        1. Difficult to see who you thumbed down with everyone cutting in and relegating your comment.

  3. I really do not have a problem with Ozil’s passes, is problem at the moment is taking some of the responsibility in the goal scoring department, he just needs to score more goals, when he starts doing that it would put him in the same class as Bergkamp, when he starts to contribute 15-20 goals i have no doubt we will have titles and trophies.

    1. Bergkamp would get forward and not be afraid to try something audacious to score – his chips were sensational. Özil gets through on goal and still decides to pass instead sometimes. He didn’t do that last season (2013-14). Must be a confidence thing, he’ll come back.

      1. Agree he gets in excellent position to shoot. A playmaker will always be a playmaker however and his vision is a joy to watch.

  4. I absolutely love watching ozil play anyone who can’t appreciate what he does either doesn’t no football or just a hater that simple

    1. There are some “old-school” fans who place great importance on the appearance of work-rate -even above that of results. Ozil will often fail to please in this case. Zelalem appears to be exactly the same type of player as Ozil – sometimes seen as too nonchalant.

In fairness, most Arsenal fans fully appreciate Ozil for his style of play and his talent – we sometimes just hear the loud voices of a vocal minority.

      1. Yea good point I no it’s only a minority but I just don’t get it! The sky pundits annoy me the most mainly Jamie carragher

        1. Most of the pundits are slowly shutting up. Watching the Arsenal v Everton game in the Singapore Cup and the commentator said how easy it was to overlook Ozil’s quality because of how effortless he made it look – suggested if it was Ramsey or Wilshere pinging the ball around like he was doing then it would attract a lot more attention. I am expecting massive things from him this season – very good second half to last season after coming back from injury, he looks pumped up, bulked out, fully used to PL, proper pre-season for 1st time.

  5. The Benzema hype gets louder and louder. By the time they are done the media will claim he is worth 60 mil. lunacy.

    1. Hafiz if u said this after deadline day I could appreciate it! It’s like u want something you’ve always wanted for Christmas but u keep sneaking up to your parents bedroom and can’t find it in the wardrobes and whining about it even tho it’s still 5weeks before Christmas!even tho your parents haven’t finished shopping yet !thats kids for u tho ay !!
