Ozil demanding MORE transfers but who do Arsenal need?

There will hopefully be some good news for Arsenal fans soon concerning our play maker Mesut Ozil, as the Germany international is currently in talks with the club about signing a new contract. Apparently the 27-year old is happy with life in London and being a Gunner, especially with Arsene Wenger getting the side playing at our fluent best with Ozil pulling the strings.

The confirmation that he is to stay with us will be great news for Arsenal fans, of course, but it could also be a double boost if the Metro report about one of his key demands in the ongoing negotiations is true.

The word from the German sports paper Bild is that Ozil wants assurances that Wenger and Arsenal will carry on the strong work in the transfer market that we saw this summer, to keep the team moving forward and getting stronger. If this is true then once we hear about him extending his current deal then we can expect some more big money signings, perhaps in January, but who might they be?

Looking at the squad and the team right now, which areas do you think we need to strengthen?

Bob.

  1. Will get alot of hate, but we need a player to challenge Ozil. He is the only player who are free of competition. Cazorla, Ramsey is now an MC. Jack Wilshere and Rosicky out. Who is challenging Ozil seriously? A promising AMC from one of the nominees from the golden boy will do.

    1. Personally thought Ramsey played the ozil role superbly in the Euros, with him competing against ozil and Adelaide as further back up and then cazorla, elneny, xhaka and coquelin competing for the two deeper roles, with zelalem as further back up I think we got it covered.

Walcott, chamberlain, iwobi, Welbeck and akpom and willock as further back up covers the flanks.

Whilst alexis, perez and giroud have a 3way fight for the main striker role.

Sure we can always improve on quality but no doubt the quantity is at the right levels.

      1. We need a WORLD CLASS STRIKER and a back up RB next year. And also sell the remaining fringe players. Once we do that, we would have a superb squad:

        GK: Cech, Ospina
        RB: Bellerin, ???
CB: Koscielny, Mustafi, Gabriel, Holding, Chambers
        LB: Monreal, Gibbs
        CDM: Xhaka, Coquelin, Elneny
        CM: Cazorla, Wilshere
        CAM: Ozil, Ramsey
        LW: Sanchez, Iwobi
        RW: Walcott, Oxlade, Campbell
        ST: ??? , Giroud, Perez

Sell: Szczesny, Martinez, Mertesacker, Jenkinson, Debuchy, Welbeck, Sanogo, Akpom, Toral
Loan Out: Zelalem, Niles, Adelaide, Willock, Malen, Asano, Mavididi, Crowley

  2. @butters That’s right. Ozil needs competition. Maybe that will come from Zelalem or Nwakalli in the next few seasons? Zelalem in particular should be ready for first team action next season. If not, when?

    1. @Twig
It will take Zelalem more than a few seasons of play to be able to compete with Ozil. Dude is too timid and needs to put on some lbs. Haven’t really seen Nwakalli. so, can’t really say much about him.
In our current squad, Santi is direct competition to Mesut. I honestly feel that he’s better, due to his work rate and 2 footed ability…

        1. @Admin
Done…I’m passing the word on to other Gooners. I urge you all to do the same. Iwobi is our “Golden Boy”…

  3. i have a different view to this as i dont believe this news about ozil wanting assurances over new signings, especially now that we have good quality depth everywhere
But if it is true,i dont think it is good for him to hold us to ransome…
like i always say, there are better well rounded 10s than ozil who is so limited
so we can always replace him….

Having said that,we have players that are good for the 10 role too
IMO,that is iwobi’s best position and we also have cazorla and toral.
Ramsey might have played well at the euros but in our team am not
yet convinced he can play that role well……

  4. A Team can always be improved
If Theo, Iwobi and Perez all perform well and Alexis continues performing well up front we may not even need to get a CF or winger next summer. If any or some of them don’t then we will need to consider getting a Top player/s

But let’s wait and see how this season pans out. It’s too early

I am hoping Alexis scores 20 goals this season
I am hoping Theo continues his good form and Iwobi or Perez perform well on the left

  5. One thing I hate about some of our players. When we are 2-0 up they start showboating, and I really hate that. They do these one touch 2 metre passes 3 of them in a small area, then one of them loses it and a counter attack starts.

The other day at 2-0 Ozil passes whilst looking in another direction.

Also Walcott is wrong, After Basel game he said it’s understandable that we slowed down towards the end. Actually it’s not. Did we score 3 or 4? No it was 2, Basel only would’ve needed one shot to be back in the game.

If we keep playing for 50-55 minutes in a game, I can assure you at some point it will catch up, certainly against the fitter teams.

    1. @HA559
I agree. We can’t pull that ish at Turf Moor. We gotta stay focused from box2box & whistle2whistle there and ever game afterwards…

    2. Footballers are paid to entertain. I respect your opinion but I cannot not enjoy watching what you call showboating. I agree that 2-0 isn’t the time, I only consider feeling safe at 3-0. But personally my opinion of Ozil went up when he played that no look pass. Also, I don’t know how old you are but if you’re still gonna be alive and watching football in 10 years, get used to the showboating. The people i play football with showboat before they are winning. That’s what the next generation of footballers are going to be like. You read it here first???

  6. First and foremost we need a good cover/replacement for Santi. The guy is not getting any younger (unfortunately), and we’ve all seen what happened when he went down last season. Another area where we could use some cover/additions are our fullbacks. Bellerin and Nacho are great, but I can’t say the same for Debuchy and Gibbs. That’s 3 more players, which is not a lot, and then the sky is the limit…

    1. @Vlad
Gibbs is adequate cover for Nacho, as long as who ever is playing on the left wing tracks back and helps him out. Maitlain-Niles showed he can put in a good shift on the right. All he needs is more match time…

  7. We need cover for Bellerin and Monreal. Gibbs/JENK&DEB are just not good enough at this level. Also as everyone else mentioned we need someone who can come in and challenge Ozil himself, he’s not untouchable. Lastly, OX needs to move on and we need someone else as a RW to compete with Walcott. That’s 3 new players!
