Ozil happy and confident of BIG trophy success with Arsenal

It’s all gone quiet over there! All the Arsenal haters and fierce critics of Mesut Ozil have gone into their shells a bit since the start of this calendar year. As the Gunners put our early season struggles to one side and started to build momentum, the likes of Paul Scholes, Michael Owen and Adrian Durham have become more and more quiet and will soon have to find someone else to pick on if we carry on at this rate.

The fact that Arsenal’s record signing Mesut Ozil has been at the heart of our recent run must hurt those critics even more, as they have delighted in pointing out the German internationals deficiencies, as they saw them anyway, and do not seem to have an answer now. Perhaps they feel a bit daft after Arsene Wenger suggested that some people do not appreciate Ozil because they do not see the whole picture on a football pitch and just because our playmaker does not go tear-arsing around like a headless chicken they think he is lazy.

It can be fairly hard to really appreciate what Ozil brings to the Gunners team but if you really watch him you will see how he is constantly on the move, creating space and spotting passes that pull the opposing teams all over the place. One person who seems in no doubt of his ability is the player himself, who has told Arsenal Player that he is very pleased with his own form this year.

Our number 11 said, “I think it’s been very positive [this season]. Of course picking up my injury was a negative because I missed a lot of games. But if you look at the league and my performances, I’m really satisfied.

“I’d say I’m on the right way. What’s most important is that I perform well consistently. The team support me really well and the manager gives me his trust.

“I’ve missed a lot of football and I think it shows on the pitch that I worked very hard during that time. So now I just want to… help the team and I’m on the right path.

“The most important thing is that we win games as a team. Of course it’s nice if I can give an assist or score a goal, but really, what’s most important is that we are successful as a team.

“We’re rightfully near the top of the table and in the semi-finals of the FA Cup again. I think we can win trophies again this year, and if we do that, we will be satisfied.”

I’m not sure that the Arsenal fans will really be satisfied until we reclaim the mantle of champions of England but I see what he means and another FA cup plus a higher finish in the league would be an improvement on last season and a minor miracle considering how badly we started the season.

It seems clear that Ozil is happy at Arsenal though and is here to stay. But will he help us to win the Premier League trophy that we all want and maybe even the Champions League?

  1. Im glad that mesut is happy at arsenal! Now let him transform that happiness unto the field by showing us his true world class form! Coyg!

  2. 4 that got to be Axed for the new rules

    Diaby, Flamini, Sanago, Arteta

Another 4 or 5 has to be axed for new signings

Campbell, Poldi, BFG, Gnabry and or Zalelem

All of the above has little or no contribution to the team….it makes no difference if they are gone…

      1. Great idea, sell an established, inform Giroud, and buy a player in his first season scoring lots of goals! Who’s to say Kane will repeat his form in seasons to come, look what happened to Michu after an outstanding first season in the PL.

  3. I don’t think Özil has done badly at Arsenal. He hasn’t been as good as we all hoped, but as fans we all have overexpectations – we thought we could win the league this season. Nevertheless he’s been a very good player for us and is improving.

He hasn’t been as prolific as he was at Madrid, but we don’t have Ronaldo to put the ball in the back of the net for every chance he creates, so of course his assists aren’t going to be as good, but here’s an interesting stat:

    Chances created per game:
    Özil, Spanish League 2012/13: 2.84
    Özil, Premier League 2013/14: 2.57
    Özil, Premier League 2014/15: 2.92

He hasn’t lit up the league, but still every other Premier League team would take him in a heartbeat, no questions asked.
