Perfect Arsenal pairing to control midfield v Liverpool?

We will not know until tomorrow which 11 Arsenal players will be chosen by Arsene Wenger to start our third Premier League game of the season against Liverpool, but it could be a crucial selection, even this early on in the campaign.

A win against our Premier League rivals would not only keep the Gunners in touching distance of the league leaders, but it would also land an early blow on Brendan Rodgers and his players, whose confidence is probably quite fragile after last season´s struggles.

We already know, or can guess, that Rodgers is planning to make it a tight game, with little time and space on the ball for Arsenal to make the most out of our creative talents. So as well as needing to control the possession of the ball, we need to use it very well, while also making sure that we are not left too far forward and exposed to the counter attack.

Not easy really, but with Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin in the centre of midfield, I think we have the perfect blend of tenaciousness, tackling, reading of the game and technical ability. The young Frenchman also told Arsenal Player this week that he and the little Spanish magician have forged a brilliant understanding of each others´ games.

Coquelin said, “It is easy to play alongside Santi because he is such a great player. We had a good chemistry last season, but there are many great players at this club that we can all play with each other.

“That is the great thing about this squad; anyone can play and we can still get a result.

“Last season with Santi was something special because we got a lot of praise, but the most important thing is that no matter who plays, we can get the result.”

Is there any real question of whether these two are the midfield pairing that must start against the scousers?

    1. Same solid formation from the last few months of last season needed. Alexis on the left, ox as super sub. You guys know the score. Drunk. Will have to be wary of benteke in the box. Cech and Mert will have to step up. Back 4 need to sort it out. No more shying away from shots please Kos…

  1. You fans are blind. Coqeulin is a mess.we need someone better in there. Krychowiak at least. Come on wake up! If we are going to challenge for the title we need a better DM

  2. coquelin is good…no need to hate on him…

incase you didn’t notice he committed fouls against crystal palace to protect our back four cazorla got way too much forwad.

    against liverpool..
    we utilise our chances=win.
giroud has a bad day =loss.

Alexis sanchez will be a nightmare to the liverfools defender…
    skirtel to concede a penalty.

  3. I would start Walcott/Ox on the flank but I see Wenger going with Ramsey because Wenger wants that extra man in the middle and Ramsey won’t really play on the flank. He gives You goals and energy. He also have decent scoring record against Liverpool. Whoever start, we need the 3pts but would love to see Ox/Walcott in the game @ some point.

Hopefully, Cavani or Benzema’. Bender or (the Sevilla Dm)’ can’t spell his Name properly will be an Arsenal player. Call mi crazy but I feel its gonna be Benzema and SevillaDM will be playing for us…

    1. Krychowiak it is.I hope we get him. He’s quality. We have missed out on a number of targets. Our transfer window is poor, I’m sorry for all you poor fans.including myself.

  4. Pedro scored on debut and Costa scored too
Hopefully, there will be a better result in City match.

As for us, losing at home to West Ham was an awful Blunder but losing two Home matches in a row is unacceptable. We MUST win tomorrow.

    Play specialist wingers (Alexis, Walcott/Oxlade)
No Ramsey on right or Ozil on left
    Play Ozil in cam
    Play Coquelin DM
    Play Cazorla BtoB
    Bench Ramsey if playing Cazorla

  5. So, if you’re to believe the papers today, Arsenal will be signing BOTH Benema AND Cavani in this window. I say good luck with that ?

  6. We need better than Artetifact.

Imagine the scenario: le coq gets a hammie and is out for six weeks. That means slow and not great off the ball Arteta will play and leave us vulnerable(like it was early last season when we lost the league).

We need someone else to compliment or replace le coq. Ala Krych/Carvalho

  7. Cavani is the man.
Man.u can hijack Benzema for all I care.
A Giroud-like structured striker with Sanchez-like gas, has good dribbling, good in the air too, and fits our versatile game where our fowards switch positions much,
This guy would totally get back to his best with us.
On top of that, make use of the current wanyama sichuweshan and land him,
this i tell you, the epl would be ours to lose

  8. I want us to play the deadly double pivot: Arteta and Flamini! They served us well some few seasons ago. It’s time to go back to the tested and trusted ?

  9. Javi martinez, dm emergency cb, if benzema deal fails we should sign benik afobe, the guy’s a goal machine and wouldn’t need time to settle.

    1. what!? Don’t sell us short mate.
We don’t just suck. We also swallow.
      Get your facts right. 😀

    1. Everton played very well. But Man City just has too much quality.
David Silva is amazing. Best CAM in football.

  10. The partnership is good but it will not be long before we see santi is not a box to box player and cannot play there long term. However it is really good.By the way Benzema is not close to joining any team.I mean its so simple because Real Madrid have not bought anyone to replace him so they are all fake.I really hope the 3 musketeers do not haunt us on Monday however good luck to them and the other boys.

  11. lol…“Is Citeh the only real Premier League rival to Arsenal?”

More like…Is Man City the only real Premier League rival to Man City?

and even more like…Can Leicester City join Spurs, Southampton and Everton to rival Arsenal for the 4TH place trophy?

    🙂

  12. Even with signings we will be no match for city they look in a different league if we played them now they would destroy us that’s how far away we are from challenging those fans who believe we have a chance are totally deluded!

    1. Funnily enough I still think we r just two players away … Quality DM who can really dominate the space in front of box … Coq is not that kind of player yet …so bender or the pole are a must in next week … Plus benzema I am not his biggest fan but better than giroud and if we don’t it will be massive let down plus draxler …sell the whippet to,whoever will take him on his idiotic wages and Campbell …gab in mert out … A good enough 15 players to hive them a run for their money …. Sadly wenger just cares about 4 th place

  13. Say what you want but City are up and running. Put the money aside they’re handling their business on the pitch. 3 games 3 wins 0 goals conceded. Their goal difference alone is already superior to everyone else. Won’t be easy pulling off a 2-0 win this time around at the Etihad that’s for sure and we’ll have to definitely show up at the Emirates. Still early but they mean business this season. Almost as if the Liverpool game is a must win just to keep the pace and I sure hope Özil is right about us knowing to beat Liverpool, positive response needed at home since we lost the first one there…

  14. Guys look at the conversation between @alexisdun85 and that muzzi ozcan guy! Benzema left out of real madrid’s match. Benzema is a gunner They said “injury” just to stop any speculation. Also ADMIN if the move does not happen then i will leave the site that is a promise from me.
    #benzyfrenzy

In my opinion the perfect pairing would be coquelin and santi cazorla along with theo/chambo alexis and giroud/theo COYG

      1. I made my promise. If benzema is not a gunner by the end of this window i will leave justarsenal.com.#Benzyfrenzy

        1. Benzema or no Benzema,No need to leave the site because justarsenal.com is number one site for arsenal fans dialogue, arsenal.com is monologue.

  15. After playing 3 games, M City & M United are on 9&7 points as we all know. And Arsenal are on 3 points after playing 2 games and are even currently placed 13th in the table. I despise this mentality of: It is too early in the season, anything can still happen theory being tailored around in some quarters. Anything can still happen is a losing mentality. Arsenal will be 3 points behind the pace setters Man City if the beat Livepool at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow. And even be placed 4th in the table if they beat them by 3 goals to nil. To be within the touching distance is better than to be far gaped and start hoping the leaders above us will drop points for us to catch them. Did it turnout that way last season as Chelsea led in the table from day one and held on to their lead to the very end? Can Arsenal beat Liverpoo 3-0? Why not? Cech. BellerinRhinoKoscielnyMonreal. CoquelinCazorla. RamseyOzilSanchez. Walcott. are the Boss orthodox starts save Walcott for Giroud that should do the 3-0 beating of Liverpool.
