Reading between the lines – Wenger is staying at Arsenal

Arsenal are usually at the centre of much of the speculation year on year, but this summer there are many reasons to be keeping an eye on our club’s goings on.

We look likely to lose Alexis Sanchez in the coming months, with Bayern Munich looking on the verge of his signature, and we also have huge question marks on the futures of Arsene Wenger, Mesut Ozil, and even smaller question marks on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Hector Bellerin.

The French manager has been in charge of Arsenal since 1996, through 21 years of football and three Premier League titles, but has come under increased pressure from fans to end his reign this summer, when his current contract ends.

The manager has spoken about his future today, and whilst he is claiming not to tell us the answer to the big question, he may well have told us his intentions.

Sir Alex Ferguson came to the defence of Wenger this week, and whilst talking of the Scotsman with Arsene, he claimed he ‘doesn’t think’ he will match his 26 year spell spent at Man United.

Wenger said: “We had some rivalries in the past, but his comments are welcome because he knows the difficulties of the job.

“I don’t think I will match him on that front. But he did extremely well in what he did, and 26 years at the same place is absolutely exceptional.

“The average life expectancy of a manager is 18 months, so our situation is quite unusual. But I cannot answer on doing 22 or 23 years.”

The bottom comment is talking about one or two more years, which looks ever more likely…

Did Wenger admit that he is staying? Does anyone believe that he is actually leaving the club this summer?

  1. hes obviously staying

i look forward to being called plastic, fickle and moronic by the akb for next few years
plus more arsenal fan tv dt claude and troopz rants

    every cloud haha

    1. Glasshouse/stone/you. That’s not a new drug btw.

Must say I hate that channel. When I first subbed I thought it was going to be something completely different. I thought Arsenal FC were behind the making of it, that it’d be altogether biased, but they’d still have people criticize like ex Arsenal players still do. And we’d get all sorts of footage, great old and new stuff. I got one seasons worth of listening to the likes of Claude and I had enough, I had to watch in careful/small doses thereafter that. It’s bad enough seeing your team go through difficult times but listening to it constantly is just too much. The people you know you speak with them about it, you comment on sites, also you’re listening to pundits. Rival fans can be c***S. Then after going through the emotions of bad results/seasons, that lot on that channel would send you right over, and melt your head. AFTV has been likened to the Jeremy Kyle show, I f**king hate that dude and his show, arrogant p***k. Some people love that stuff, I wonder how many AFTV fans are JK fans.

Actually one thing on AFTV I liked allot, was the call in show ..AFTExtra. I liked the lads on that one, thought they were balanced for the most part and would lean either side depending on how things went. Stuck to their principles all the same, but still gave credit around, fairer than the other show, when called for. Didn’t rant much, came across rational. I know the others spoke directly after a game but I’ve watched it long enough to know that wasn’t the reason. My favorite on AFTVExtra not that anyone cares was the bald fella, wore glasses and looks a little Greek, him and Memz were good. I think Robbie got a bit worried for it’s popularity.

  2. Yes, it seems silly to be keeping everyone in the dark when he’s been talking about how he has no life without football and Arsenal is where he want’s to be. Transfer decisions were being made and also talked about. Him saying we only need two is the latest transfer news, but before that he was saying we don’t need a DOF and asked what is that anyway. Said we don’t need an overhaul, said we’re confident on keeping Alexis and Ozil, said he’ll keep Alexis even if he doesn’t sign. He also said he wont stick with the new formation next season, only used it to get players behind something different along with it giving us extra defensive cover. He said he wants to keep this group together. What was the question?

This is prob why he had a go at the board for not backing him, he basically told everyone I am going nowhere, the board have a contract for him just sitting there yet they stayed quiet the whole time. This is a bit of a joke, look how ruthless we are, decisive, it’s no wonder we’re dominating football altogether.

  3. I believe and what to see him leave.

For the sake of Arsenal Football club let it be so!!!

    1. If i am relying my hope that wenger will leave and then turned out he stays, i will hang myself of depression.

So, i will just assume inevitably he will stay so i won’t hang myself later.

      1. If he doesn’t go. I will no longer watch them until he does.
When he and Stan are gone, maybe I can start enjoying AFC again.

  4. If Wenger is staying then he needs to atleast do us a favour and sell the deadwoods and replace them with superior players. Buy only quality players so, that our next manager will not have to spend 200 m on new players after 2 years. We need to keep Alexis at any price and buy a top striker, CB, CM and winger.

    1. He says he’s keeping 90% of the team, so count Sanogo on the bench next season with the donkey (who by the way wants to win the league with Arsenal) leading the lines. The 10% leaving includes our best player since Henry, Sanchez. That’s the ambition of this old senile man

  5. We should try to sign Douglas Costa and Icardi. Douglas Costa is not happy because he is not playing regularly and Icardi can be signed if we offer him 200 k pw.

    1. Keeping Alexis, if it’s at all possible, there isn’t better business on the market than doing this. If only we’d have had one or two around him more fitting. Walcott Welbz Giroud Iwobi Coquelin, pfffft.

    1. I would add 2005-06 as well. FA Cup, CL final and move from Highbury.

But from arounds 2008 onwards he’s been stuck in a timeloop..

  6. Wenger will continue to spoil his beautiful dance with Jumping.

A great Manager with Greater Destruction and have the Greatest Problems of all time.

  7. I would apply an 80/20 rule here. 80% that he stays, 20% that he goes. Umm, scratch that. He’s 100% staying.

  8. Wenger the lying toad HAS ALREADY SIGNED contract, he did so in late February. Arsenal were hoping to announce it earlier but due to his great (and I mean crap) results and management they put off announcement till end of season.

    More wenger
    More failure
    More excuses
    More stupid arsenal tv
    More abuse from rival fans
More crap players on silly wages
More gazidis and kroenke robbing fans

    Time to leave.
