Referees reward Wenger comments by giving Arsenal Mike Dean for Tottenham clash

Arsene Wenger is famous for blaming the referees, opponents diving, the weather and the alignment of the planets as reasons why his Arsenal team lose games, in fact anything rather than blame the players for their poor performances. But this season he seems to be laying into the Premier league referees more than usual and has been bemoaning that their decisions have been declining in quality every year.

Wenger yet again lambasted the referee for being the difference in the Gunners defeat to Man City in their last away fxture when asked if he thought Pep Guardiolas side were unbeatable this season. “They are a good side but they are not an unstoppable side,” Le Prof was quoted as saying..

“If you look at the expected goals, it was 0.7 for them and 0.6 for us, it was a very tight game.

“They created very little and very little shots on target, just one more than us.”

“The referee had an absolutely atrocious input to the result of the game,”

“Overall we were hugely punished by the third goal because at 2-1 we would have been in the game.

“I don’t dispute that they are a good side, but they are not an unstoppable side.”

Wenger has often been in trouble for his outspoken criticism of the officials, and it would appear that the referees association are not very pleased with his comments and have rewarded the Frenchman’s comments by allocating Mike Dean to this weekend’s cruch clash against Tottenham. Dean is definitely Arsenal’s fans most hated official and has rarely been in the middle without upsetting either Le Prof or the fans with some of his controversial decisions.

The derby has now become even more scary for Arsenal fans!

  1. wenger has the right to complain because the third goal that manchester city scored was obviously an offside even a two year o;d could see that.

    1. plus the 2 offside goal last season. sometimes we lay into him for not having passion, he sure is destroying referees this seasons. seems a bit like the old wenger, hopefully a good sign for the future.

  2. This is another evidence that the FA hates us just because of Wenger but at least they are helping us to get rid of Wenger. More Mike Dean and Michael Oliver please and bad officiating. This people will help us. I hope they frustrate him to the fullest maximum so that he leaves.

  3. we should stop thinking about all these things and start focusing on our own game and tactics. Wenger has past his prime. we are no more a top club and lets accept this. enough is enough. wenger out pls

    1. The figures from stat researcher Andy Field are the Gunners have won more than twice as many games without Dean in charge (60%) than with him (26%). Clearly he influences games and we should be very worried he is the referee.

      1. That stat is great but do you know who we were playing in those games, I genuinely have no idea but I wonder if they were games which we would have struggled to get a positive result regardless of the ref. Don’t get me wrong I really don’t like the bloke I’m just wondering if he’s officiating the bigger games of that day.

        1. I have two stats for you, with Dean as ref, in 7 premier league games at Highbury we won 7, since then we’ve played 15 and won 4.
          The opta stats for Wenger’s 0.7 & 0.6 were 1.83 & 0.31.

  4. I’m a fully paid up member of the Wenger Out brigade but I can’t bare the feeling of loosing to them lot, lose and I’m going to get pelters at work. Wenger having a pop at the officials is nothing more than a deflection tactic as is his use of stats, for long periods of the game against city they were by far the better team. He’s an old boxer on the ropes now, battered and bruised, while we all know he was great in his day he’s taking a beating and just doesn’t know when to stop accepting the fights or in his case contracts. I hope someone from his corner throws the towel in very soon because its starting to get really ugly now.

  5. The Spurs game is huge.
If Arsenal win Spurs will be 11 points
behind City if City wins at Leicester.
Basically Spurs title bid will be over
and will join Arsenal Chelsea Utd
    + Liverpool in a scrap for 2nd-6th.
If Arsenal beat Utd as well even if Ozil and Sanchez
are sold in January Arsenal will be on target for a top 4 finish
and will not have to rely on winning the Europa League.

  6. I wonder if Poch will rock up with his Spurs squad, and make the big calls only a top manager like Wenger can do for these games? Kane on the bench, Trippier at LWB, Alli as a winger, Eriksen as a holding midfielder.

  7. You appear to think Spurs fans have a high opinion of Dean, I can assure you we don’t. A bad referee is a bad referee and can screw up a game either way.

    1. I’m sure you never said that the last time he referee’d the derby at the Emirates Jod, when he gave you every decision over the ninety minutes

  8. Why won’t Wenger talk when Arsenal has been blatantly robbed again and again by the match officials. First at stoke, then Watford and then at City. If City is so good, why would they need the help of the referee to beat us? So Wenger has the right to complain, even though I am not one of his AKB. Now, our old friend Mike Dean to officiate our match against Spurs. It can’t get any better, or worse. Anyway, the so called expert has already given the match to Spurs to trash us come Saturday match day. So, most Arsenal fans has already zero their mind to any eventuality.

    1. I agree the standard of refereeing isn’t great and probably has got worse in all fairness but some players are so good at winning fouls now it’s not exactly easy for them, Anders Limpar and Robert Pires were both masters at winning fouls but to say that city needed to ref to help them win is a bit unfair on them. I want us to win every game, win the league but we aren’t going to.Blame Wenger, the players, the owner, the board whoever but to blame the officials is just a smokescreen for the fact we aren’t as good as what our fans want us to be.

      1. You make some good points Simon but that doesn’t alter the fact that we’ve been singled out over the last ten years for some unbelievably bad decisions and media reports by Sky Sports, the FA and the referees. They’re definitely conspiring and personally I’ve had enough.

        1. You’re not wrong Kenny, I can remember bad decisions being made in GGs time, what I’m trying to say is although we have had some really bad decisions go against us that doesn’t explain away every result.

  9. This is good. Wenger will now have someone to blame to deflect away from his poor performance as a manager

  10. I really hope the whole team show some passion this weekend. Show us fans that they’re up for it & they really want to win. Like Wright, Henry, Podolski & even Keown!!

  11. No matter what you think about Wenger we have been getting bad decisions from referees for many years. This week it’s Mike Dean from Merseyside just one of the 95% of refs that come from the north west of England and instigated Mike Riley and the PGMOL. If Wenger wan’t to moan about something he’d do better off asking WHY ARE THEIR NO SOUTHERN REFEREES ON THE LIST

  12. I realise (from existing comments on here )that saying refs are honest in their intentions, will not go down well with many who, like Wenger, have a complex that most refs and in particualar Dean hate us and are cheating us. But refs are honest and give what they truly think, despite what many of you choose to believe. Of course all refs, like all players, and all fans too, for that matter, make mistakes. The actual truth, that many fans of all clubs have a down on refs in general and of some in particular, is easily evidenced if you go on other clubs forums and see the same sort of “refs hate us” nonsense, the immature and dishonest ones spout so foolishly on here. You see , there are those who always welcome the truth and others who will not, unless it suits them. Is is called honesty or self delusion. Choose for yourself which side you are on.

    1. Jon, with 95% of referees coming from the north west of England none from the south and all appointed by Mike Riley , a former referee who once gave Ruud van Nistelroy eleven penalties in eleven games, don’t you think there may be a slight tinge of bias there

      1. Making excuses when you lose just highlights a loser. Winners just get on with it. Luck all evens itself out. Everybody seems to have convenient memories when we get dodgy decisions for us (for example West Brom game).
Making excuses before the games has even started is just tragic.

          1. Not the right wing lot we have had wearing differant colours over the last 40 years who, like Wenger with Arsenal, are doing their best to ruin the country,

  13. I agree that Mike Dean doesn’t seem to do us any favours, putting it mildly. But even Moureen has learnt to shut-up with blaming the referees all the time. Wenger really should learn to do the same.

    1. I agree with you Yossarian, he should shut up, and he the cause of referees giving us a hard time but don’t you think that referees should be above that and call it as they see it.
