Relax Gooners! Being underdogs is better for Arsenal

It has been an awfully long time since we saw Arsenal lift the Premier League trophy, so a lot of Arsenal fans will have forgotten exactly what it took to get there. In fact it has been so long that apart from Arsene Wenger, nobody on the firing line for the Gunners knows what it is like to win a title for Arsenal.

What we do have going for us after 12 years of disappointment, frustration, nearly misses and endless debates about why a particular season went wrong, is a lot of experience about what does not work. And from an Arsenal point of view in recent years one of the biggest factors for the club has been the ability to cope with the pressure of expectation.

It was just a couple of years ago when Arsenal spent a lot more time at the top of the Premier League table than any of our rivals but we seemed to crumble when the business end of things began. It was not just Arsenal either, because that season saw both Chelsea and Liverpool take control of the race only to mess it up and the eventual winners Man City snuck in at the last minute.

I really think that would be the best way for Arsenal to win a title as it would not give the players time to think about what they could lose, so although it is far from ideal to be nine points off the top, I do reckon that being underdogs suits Arsenal and as long as we keep in touch it will put pressure on Chelsea and not us.

What do you guys think?

  1. I think most teams who go on to win the title do have to overtake some teams at some stage. Chelsea of old and maybe Leic were a bit different, they led for a long time. I honestly believe Arsenal will get a chance to be right back in it at a later stage, whether we’ve improved we’ll know more then.

I just wish we’d have gotten our new players in last season or in Jan, they’d have gelled nicely for this season, and we could have looked to get in one more star name. We can be thankful at-least that Mustafi seems at home, and that we’ve got a great young CB for the future.

Like I said, we will get an opportunity, and I feel some of these players want to show us just how brave they can be, while some others, would love nothing more than to shut some of us up.

  2. We can’t change where we are- only change where we are going-

One game at a time –
Play with courage, composure, and confidence –
    Always go for the win

If things go bad – be mentally strong enough to bounce back.

If things go well – don’t get complacent, respect VERY teams threat and focus 100% for every second, of every game
