Roy Hodgson tells Jamie Vardy to forget Arsenal………

…. and concentrate on England!

Jamie Vardy was instructed to make up his mind about his transfer to Arsenal before the England team flew out for the Euros yesterday, but the deadline passed with nothing to show for it but a changed Twitter profile picture that seemed to indicate that the striker would be staying at Leicester.

There are other Arsenal rumours this morning that the talks have been delayed because of the projected length of the contract, but whatever the reason, the England boss Roy Hodgson is not happy about it, and doesn’t want the 29 year-old distracted during the competition.

Woy is aware that an outright ban on transfer discussions is impossible to police in this age of the internet, but it seems that he has given Vardy a new deadline of making his mind up before England’s first game against Russia.
“We are not trying to block players’ futures or transfers but, as far as we are concerned, our ongoing theme is that England is England, your club is your club,” he said. “While you are with England, we want you to stay focused on us.

“Whether they [agents] come to the hotel or not is a moot point. They will be talking to the players face to face, on the phone or via Skype or Facebook — who the hell knows? — but one thing this group of players know and have accepted is that when you are on England duty, you are on England duty.

“It is not a question of you sorting out your future, or diving off for medicals. We control all of that and you have to accept there is a good chance that, if you say you want to go for a medical, that we will say: ‘We are not allowing that and you better bring your people here.'”

So, as usual, Arsenal fans are going to be left in suspense after thinking that a deal was done and dusted. The new deadline is Saturday, but if nothing is agreed by then we can expect Hodgson to put his foot down and ban any more talks until England get knocked out in the quarter-finals….

    1. who thinks Vardy will replicate this form (For Leicester or Arsenal) next season?

If he’s half as good as people think, i’d be watching him critically next season…..

One thing’s certain, Leicester won’t find it easy next season!

  1. Lol, i said before that he had more incentive to stay at Leicester than join us and only received criticism. Welp..Onto the next rumor! What is it Mhiktaryan or Mahrez now? Once again Gooners, don’t count your eggs before they hatch! We’ve been in this same situation many times over the years yet we keep biting the bait.

    1. Who has counted Mkhitaryan and Mahrez now?! Given that the Vardy news was being reported by everyone including the BBC , with even Ranieri and Hodgson quotes flying around , the only way you would have expected it to turn out this way was if you ate pessimism 3 times 7 a week. Who knew a married anyone could turn down a massive salary increase and signing bonus? Turns out even cheaters can be loyal..lol

      1. You can see a few articles down mentions of Mkhitaryan and Mahrez. Yes it was reported by everyone but i was saying he had more incentives to stay. For example LFC increasing his salary or the abuse his wife received from fans over rumors amongst many. I never said i knew it would turn out this way, i just meant not to be shocked when it doesn’t work out because there are many reasons why he would stay

  2. If he doesn’t wanna play for the arsenal his loss…
Big things are happening this year & everyone knows it.
Better players are available & would love to play for Arsenal FC

    1. maybe, but personally, as much as i would like Vardy and Mahrez in our team i think it would be a great shame to see them leave Leicester so soon. What they achieved was incredible , it embarrassed the greed culture of the super clubs. It honestly restored my faith in football, and i think they should ride it out and see how far they can go. There are others on the market.

  3. Everyone is now saying that he isnt coming,
I for one hope that he does, just not gonna get caught in the rumour mill anymore,
lets be patient and see what happens.

    1. @Dav SA

Right now, the most difficult thing for me to do is to be patient, I have been very restless these days….

Apart from the fact that I want Vardy to join us, I also dread the ridicule we will face if he turns us down….

  4. Hehe I had a feeling wenger was doing a suarez on us on this one.I hope I am wrong and he signs a striker.

    1. Vardy is not on my dream list of strikers……… But if he comes, no problem…..if he doesn’t, No problem as well

But something is better than nothing!

  5. 100 bucks say Vardy transfer will not happen. We have seen this happen in the past and the people heading our transfer business are probably the worst in the world.

  6. Arteta gone
    Rosicky gone.
    Wenger says only
    2-3 players coming in.
One Xhaka is here already so that
    leaves two players coming in.
    Yet there are rumours about
    9 other players leaving.
    Ospina Chambers Gibbs Debuchy
    Flamini Walcott Ox Ozil Sanogo?
    1.So are they mostly rumours?
2.Is Wenger going to replace most of them with academy players?
3.Or isWenger buying more than 2-3?

    1. As you say it is all rumours, you could add wiltshire, bellerin and sanchez to your rumoured leaving list.

With regard to numbers coming in, wenger has also said in the past that integrating more than three new players in to a team causes problems. I suspect that he was referring to new players from outside, not players promoted from our academy.

My take on all this is that flamini will go, ospina (unfortunately) will go and possibly one other from Walcott, ox or gibbs. So that is 4-5 leaving. He will buy 2-3 players for the first team and promote rest from academy.

I cannot see wenger selling any of sanchez, ozil, bellerin or wiltshire this transfer window. The only proviso on this is if the long term medical opinion on wiltshire is bad, and he has a reasonable euros and is not injured, then he might cash in and sell wiltshire, but I cannot recall him doing this in the past, he has always stuck by injured players.

Next summer any player with one year to go on contract will be sold, that includes Ozil and Sanchez.

  7. This is so annoying. Vardy came to us. He was the one who started this whole circus. It was his agent that was pimping him around and offering him to top teams who might be interested. Ordinarily, he was not a target of us because he signed a new contract midway into the season when he was banging in goals.

And this is why people hate transfer season. Greed makes people dishonest. If Leicester has matched our salary offer, then make up your mind like a man. If his plan all along was to get more money from his club, well, he did it. I understand they have made him an offer that rivals ours. What he now has to do is to make up his mind like a man and announce his decision immediately. Why is he torturing both clubs and the English national team? Surely it will hurt his supporters and team mates if he leaves but that is the price you pay for ambition. 120k a week. That kind of money is worth the abuse he will get if he decides to move. Make up your mind Jamie and end this madness!

    1. @uche exactly…its getting really annoying for us fans, not to talk of Wenger…if he is leaving/staying, he shld com out and say it no matter who he pisses of…120k in either team no b beans…let every1 knw is decision so the teams can start planning appropriately…it will suck if he stays cuz to find a striker with a lower risk % is low(English, guarantees goals, proven in EPL,has a strong personality?) I for 1 believe we shld try higuain since Liverpool r lurking

    2. Totally agree with you.

I have been quiet on all this Vardy business though following closely. To me it seems as though Arsenal didn’t make the first move but rather him, OG’s English might not be the best but even he said he was told “Vardy wants to join us” so what’s the sudden change of mind of?

      Only two possible scenarios:
      1. Vardy was playing us all alone to get a fat pay as you put it, or
      2. He has already signed for us pending a medical that can even be done during the Euro’s.

After all this drama should he stay at his current club he be amongst the most hated by Arsenal funs.
