Sanchez is leaving – Where does Arsenal go from here?

It appears as though failure to qualify for the Champions League is the last straw for Alexis Sanchez, who has been quite evidently frustrated by Arsenal’s inability to challenge for the title. Considering that the forward has been in red-hot form, there is certainly no shortage of suitors for his services and Bayern Munich are now seemingly on the cusp of signing Sanchez, with Chilean newspaper El Mercurio claiming that the Bundesliga champions have reached a £50m agreement with Arsenal and have also agreed personal terms with the player.

With just one year left to run on his contract, there is nothing the club can do to stop Alexis from leaving, unless of course the club are open to the possibility of him leaving on a free transfer next summer. But with the Gunners looking likely to get a transfer fee in the range of £50m for a player who wants to leave and has just one year left on his contract, Bayern’s offer will be too good to turn down and we can be pretty confident that the FA Cup final this weekend will be the Chilean’s final appearance in an Arsenal shirt.

So where do Arsenal go from here? Well, there is an 18-year-old by the name of Kylian Mbappe who has put the entire football world on notice with his performances. But as Wenger himself admitted, Arsenal are likely to be priced out of a deal with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United all said to be interested. So apart from the young Frenchman, there are the two Dortmund boys, Marco Reus and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, both of whom look likely to be on the move this summer.

Both players are similar to Sanchez in terms of style and may be open to the prospect of joining the Gunners. But it remains to be seen if Wenger actually intends on replacing the player. For all we know, the Frenchman may hype up Iwobi as the next Alexis. Simply put, the fact of the matter is that Alexis is leaving and whether or not he is adequately replaced will determine where the club is heading. From this point on, it is most certainly a question of how ambitious the club is.

  1. Best player we have had since Henry
now.leaving cos he wants to challenge for titles
Just like rvp cesc nasri every standout player.

Will be fun to see fans claim he had poor attitude and no one’s bigger than the club cos they can’t accept we are not a elite club.
Elite clubs keep the best an build from it

    Losing him is heartbreaking

    1. This really is mediocrity. The shambles of the Ashley Cole saga set the scene for just about every great player we have had since.

But the saddest thing about sanchez is that he was brought into the club as part of the moving forward with more money and he is leaving at the first chance. A damning indictment for Wenger and how he has got it wrong.

      1. Arsene Wenger: ‘We will never need to sell our best players again and we can finally compete with the best teams in Europe financially.’

        LIES

        1. Well, Gazidis must have had his hand up Wenger’s ass when he said that! ??great ventriloquists, is that Gazidis ??

  2. – If Sanchez goes to Bayern let Bayern send D. Costa the other way plus cash.

    – If Sanchez goes to City let them send Kun the other way.

    – Highjack the Lacazette deal as I don’t see Auba coming to join us. Offload OG to France or Turkey.

    – Get Mahrez instead of Reus as he is too injury prone. Offload one of Theo or Perez.

    – Get Bernardo Silva as potential replacement for Ozil or Carzola – Offload Wilshere and Joel Campbell.

    – Get Onyekuru. Offload Ackpom and Sanogo

    – Get New CB. Offload Mert / send Chambers on loan.

    – Get new LB

    – Get Allegri. Offload Wenger

    – Get Overmas as football director.

    – Get Usmanov. Offload Stan

    1. I agree. Using Sanchez as leverage to get Douglas Costa seems like a very obvious thing to do. Of course we won’t do it though.

      1. RSH

Costa may not be getting a lot of game time at Bayern but he is a very good player. He shredded our defence in the past. Definitely an upgrade on Theo / Iwobi / Welbeck / even Ox on the wings.

To push Bayern even more. let them loan us R. Sanchez, he cant get in a side with Thiago in it but may definitely compete with Ramsey / Jack / and Elneny. I mean we are in Europa now we are no longer too big to get players on loan.

      2. Costa has never scored more than 7 goals in a season, his strike rte is worse than Theo’s, and he gets ripped apart on hers for not scoring enough goals!

  3. The failure of Arsenal to qualify for Champions League was more of the players than the manager. I don’t subscribe to players being left of the blame while to manager is wholly criticised.

The true story is that Sanchez and the rest of the team could not take Arsenal to champions league and that is it. If we practically dig deep into the season, we will see that the team was doing very well until the issue of contract cropped up.

For me, if Sanchez wants to leave, he can leave. Management must invest and invest on quality players as well.

    1. What changed regarding Wenger’s future that saw us go on a winning streak in the last 5-6 games?… ?? yup, Nothing but the formation changed, yet Wenger’s future still had the big dark clouds over it. So to blame that for our previous poor form is a loud of Bollox. The truth is,
Wenger is too slow to react to changes and he didn’t respond until the 4th place trophy was in danger. Which is Nothing new there, same old ? as per usual.

      1. I think they were a lot of other thing going on. The players were just walking away on the rare occasion they scored a goal, nobody was celebrating or congratulating each other … nobody was talking to each other on the bench all looking p’d off with each other, nobody even looked like they wanted to pass to each other. Things have totally changed now. it has to be more than the formation …

  4. Wenger has Stated that it will be the clubs decision whether Sanchez and the like will be sold or not and we all know who the club is,Right?… Mr Yankee doodle Stanly.
Come on Fat man, slap that £2 Billion offer in lively ??

  5. I personally think that the club still has little chance of retaining our 2 world class players despite the rumours but it will obviously come at a cost and be difficult:
1-Pay them more than anybody else but, and unfortunately they will probably have to insert some type of release clause for next summer if the right club and offer arrives to let them go in case of an ultimate painful underachieving season.
2-Make a serious effort in revamping the squad! Some players have been here for too long and have either never reached there full potential or simply aren’t good enough (no matter the talent after a few seasons you are what you are and what the stats suggests you are)
3-The point mentioned above is to free up some wages for the extension of our best players, but also recoup some money for say Walcott or Giroud that will never sell as high as now. It also frees up more game time for promising youngsters who have time on there side to still make it and change the narrative (gibbs, ox, iwobi and ramsey) looking for more responsability and consistent minutes
4-Probably involve both Sanchez and Özil in recruiting pitch and ask for input of who they like (doesn’t mean you go with what they say bit just showing a different approach and the commitment to do better. Likely they will have to overpay to attract some of the best names out there withour Champions league football.

    1. We can still retain them but we will hve to pay over the odds. Which is never gonna happen with the current regime. Its also all about how we negotiate with this players, show them that we hve ambition but that to is never gonna happen. A scary transfer market awaits us at the same time it will answer alot of questions about where we are as a club by what we do.

      1. Lol that is why only way is to free up some wages by getting rid of those underachievers overpayed players but also keep them involved and in the loop when it comes to the transfer window…what do you think for example if both Sanchez and Özil where to know in early July that Giroud is on it’s way out but Aubameyang is coming and has signed…what would they do than?

  6. mesut ozil is the one who should be sold
that money can get us another player with real hunger

not a supremely talented bottle job

    1. We would be extremely lucky to get back what he cost (£42 million)
And I wonder how much that (Big Fat ?) reserve goalkeeper at Sutton Utd would cost?… Man, he showed some real hunger, whilst munching in the dugout, in our cup tie. ?

    2. nobody wants him, even if he was available for cheaper than we paid. Ozil has been exposed. Arsenal will probably eventually give in and pay him ridiculous wages, because that’s the kind of club we are now.

  7. Bayern will never pay 50 million for a player who has one year left. I think they might agree terms with sanchez and then he will go on a free next year. Bayern are cunning when it comes to transfers

  8. Old news.
Bild just reported Arsenal offered Sanchez 300-330k / week, and Bayern has withdrawn their interest as they cannot match Sanchez wage demand.
As most transfer rumours we should not read too much into it, but Bild is considered more reliable than most especially with news from Germany

    1. And where would he play? He won’t be first choice through the middle ahead of Lewandowski, and Ribery and Robben are part of the furniture there, so he won’t get the nod consistently ahead of them either. May not even beat out Douglas Costa. They won’t move him to the 10 as they just renewed and increased Thiago’s wages. I don’t see it happening.

  9. Top players won’t join Arsenal because they don’t want to play for Wenger. If Wenger goes and a successful manager takes charge, Arsenal as a club will start to attract top players. Until then don’t see it happening. If Wenger stays I hope it is not the beginning of the end.

    1. He will because he is backed by Kroenke … our only hope is that Kroenke goes. Am pretty sure Usmanov will invest, because Abramovich to him, is like the Spuds to us … he won’t want to lose to him. AS17 must be one of the most exciting players in the game at the moment … technically Messi is better, but I’m sure AS17 can get to his level, it would be criminal to lose him.

  10. That lad onyekuru is the obvious replacement for Sanchez. Watched his YouTube videos and all I can say is that he’s a black Sanchez…. in the making

  11. Rather he go to Bayern now, than go on a free to Chelsea / Man U / Man C next season.

  12. Ha ha I expect you all have the latest Chili squad announcement.
Only just seen it myself. They list Alexis as a Bayern Munich player!

  13. He said he will play for another year for Arsenal, whatever. Keep him, we aren’t going to get any better, and he won’t take a pay cut to go to BM. He pulls the crowd in as well, it is not worthwhile to sell him, we don’t need the money, and it would show we’ve got intent and ambition instead of caving into everybody. Would be nice to stick two fingers up at the press as well, who see to be treating us like a fire sale at the moment. Who knows, maybe Kroenke will finally come to his senses, sell on before things go to far, and AS17 will be begging to stay?

  14. Read somewhere were we’re gonna make him the highest paid prem player, 330.000 a week. Before that I read that we’re offering Alexis 230-250, but Ozil 280, I don’t think anyone knows whats going on here.

  15. Wenger should go
Tactical management of games is his main weakness, he has no team motivation skills or man-management for that case; some managers would have gone far with same squad.
I think he also let his players n staff believe mediocrity was allowed and top 4 was the sky for too long it got into their blood, he cant change it
    Just look at Ramsey

  16. Its easy to say we should get rid of our dead wood. Because I have 5 questions.
(And u can slay me afterwords, BUT I’m sure this goes throw alpt of our minds)

    Q1.
whose going to wana buy them?

    Q2.
Who are they willing to leave Arsenal for?

    Q3.
Will we get decent cash for them?

    Q4.
Does Wenger have the balls to let his favorites go.

    Q5.
Are we going to replace them with quality or us Stan going to pocket the money?

This is why a sporting director is a MUST!
WENGERS DAYS OF DICTATING SHOULD COME TO AND END!
