Should Arsenal aim to do the same as Man United?

Is the Europa League Arsenal’s only chance of getting back into the Champions League this season after being turned over by Tottenham on Saturday? Last year was Jose Mourinho’s first season at Man United and he started by winning the League Cup, but when he saw the Top Four teams pulling away from the Red Devils in the League he put all his energy and resources into winning the Europa League as well to get a wild card entry into the Champions League.

Now Arsene Wenger has a chance to emulate Mourinho, and we could start off by winning the League Cup in two weeks time, and then should we just put everything on copying United and winning the Europa League as well?

“You still have some big teams in the Europa League, including Arsenal,” Henry said. “They can still get the top four, but what they can achieve the most is winning the Europa League. I see that more [likely to happen] than finishing in the top four.

“Something incredible might happen, but it’s unlikely for that to happen.

“Should they focus on the Europa and let the league go? I don’t think you can do that, but you should go really strong on trying to win the Europa League.

“At the end of the day, that brings you back into the Champions League – and you are winning a trophy.”

Considering that Wenger has never won either the League Cup or the Europa League, I can’t understand his reluctance to just get these to ad to his collection. Who agrees with Henry that the Europa League should be our Number One target?

  1. There are still BVB, Athletico and Napoli in the EL. Not to mention on our day Wenger can make us stoop as low as Östersunds.

3-0 lead at home against Anderlecht, drew.
    4-0 lead against Newcastle, drew.
    5-1 Bayern, what three times?
    1-3 home defeat vs. Monaco.
Defeat against D Zagreb and Olympiacos.
    Defeat against Köln.

All these matches were inside the last 3 years (apart from the Newcastle game). Wenger can completely crush to bits if there is any bit of pressure applied. So to talk about winning the EL is a faraway dream.

    1. id take another year of ostersunds if wenger left
napoli and athletico are better- over two legs more so

so the only thing that can help us is the draw- lady luck that dirty mare- where is she cos laca just got injured

    2. Try following football for a change.

If you think winning the Europa league against Ajax was worse pressure than us winning the FA cup against Chelsea, you must be into other sports.

  2. Im not giving up on Europa league
Yes it will be very tough and we aren’t the top team but as an Arsenal fan i want us to win and anything is possible in elimination tournaments. We were FAR from the best premier league team in 2017, 2015 and 2014 but still won the FA Cups in those years, so its not impossible. As an Arsenal supporter i have a DUTY to support the team and hope for the best.

Also, I believe Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang and Lacazette will all come good soon.

    HOWEVER

Even if we win it, I still want Wenger OUT. That may seem harsh but we most likely will not finish in the top 4 and thats unacceptable. Also, we will never win the PL or CL with Wenger.

Wenger is not a good manager
This season shows that its not just poor signings but also poor lineups, poor tactics and poor motivational skills. Finishing 5th or 6th for two seasons in a row is the last straw in my opinion even if we win a trophy of some sort

    1. Totally right about Wenger BUT I would gladly take no silverware thts season to make sure the board sack Wenger. The strength of the certain fan protests after we lose twice to City will be decisive. Winning a minor trophy but having to keep Wenger for another year is NOT a price worth paying. BTW, you cannot be supporting Arsenal FC but consent to Wenger staying. All REAL supporters KNOW his rapid exit is the ONLY way to cure all our ills.

  3. admin: i by no means want to castigate but this thumbs situation hasnt been resolved in some weeks now- not good enough lads- whats the issue?

    1. Muff, Wasting your time. This joke Admin just ignores all enquries. I don’t mind at all castigating wilful neglect by the Admin. After all, I have been doing the same thing to Wenger for years on something FAR more important than this site.

  4. No Lacazette and Aubameyang = Welbeck up front ???

Hopefully, he will take advantage of this situation. Also, Mkhitaryan should try to make a big impact.

  5. BTW Best wishes to Lacazette. 6 weeks is a long time. Didn’t expect that
Welcome to Arsenal and our injury curse

  6. Yes Arsenal SHOULD look to do what Manure have done.CHANGE THE MANAGER WHEN YOU TEALISE THE ONE WE HAVE IS NEVER LIKELY TO BRING TOP LEVEL ACHIEVEMENTS BACK TO THE CLUB

  7. Now we know why Lacazette has lost confidence. It’s very difficult for a striker to perform well when he is carrying an injury. The prospects of Arsenal winning the Europa league is remote if Wenger continues to play Kosc,Mustafi and Xhaka. Can you see them overcoming the likes of Athletic Madrid over two legs? They have a rugged ,no nonsense defense and ball winners in midfield unlike Arsenal
