Should Arsenal be gung ho or play for draw at Liverpool?

I know there is that old saying in football that you never play for a draw, but that is simply not true, just something that managers and players like to say to show the fans that they want to win. Of course everyone wants to win but sometimes when you know that a draw is enough it makes sense to play in a certain way that reduces your chances of losing.

For Arsenal away to Liverpool today a draw would definitely be a decent result. Forget about the problems that Jurgen Klopp and his team have been having since the turn of the year, because it does not necessarily follow that Liverpool will be an easy team for the Gunners to face today.

They may have lost against Hull and Leicester this month but both of those games were away and in the middle they managed to completely dominate and win against Tottenham at Anfield. Looking at the bigger picture of the top four and the fact that a point would be guaranteed to keep Arsenal in it I would be happy with a point and I am sure that Wenger and the lads would as well.

Having said that I do not think that we are a team that is good playing like that and we do have an opportunity to pile the pressure on Liverpool and Klopp, especially with them missing Henderson and Sturridge and having a defence that is leakier than a sieve.

What do you think Gooners? Should Arsenal play it safe and try to make sure we don’t lose, or go for the Jugular?

  1. a good team would go for a win, playing home or away. anyone watching the man u match? what a scandalous referee? not even a yellow for abrihomovic and a bournmouth player sent off = gooner for ever

  2. I’m worried that we’re gonna play straight into Liv’s plans. Wenger has said we will not park the bus, which no-one expected anyway. If we play you have a go we have a go football, I fear their attack with the crowd behind them could be a little more potent than ours on the day. We have a better defence, but with end to end football that might not count for much. I’d really love to see a great team performance, but whenever we try a balancing act, something or somewhere usually suffers.

  3. Oh. What have they, whoever, players or manager turn my Arsenal into?
Big teams don’t play for a draw.
Note that Wenger’s trophy is not yet at hand so we need all the points.

  4. you play for a draw, you take a chance to get caught, you lose to pool you risk giving them the juice to get back in to the top 4 race, you take 3 you are in very good shape to finish off liverpool, play for 3 points,

  5. We cant play for draw because we dont have disciplined players to do that. We cant attack either with Coquelin and Giroud in the team! Xhaka and Coquelin in midfield are too immobile considering Liverpool’s pressing game!
