Should Arsenal be wary of Watford’s new transfers?

While Arsenal fans along with most of the fans of the Premier League clubs have been pretty underwhelmed by the current January transfer window, there have been some moves and our opponents in the Premier League tonight have been busier than most.

Watford have added three new players during the month and although two of the trio are just on loan, the manager Walter Mazzarri appears to have done good business and will be hoping that the AC Milan forward M’Baye Niang, the Everton midfielder Tom Cleverley and the former Fiorentina front man Mauro Zarate will be able to get the Hornets stinging again.

With Watford having only won one of their last two games, most Arsenal fans will be feeling confident of a comfortable win for the Gunners at home this evening, but should we be wary of the effect these new players might have?

The one I would be most worried about was Zarate, who has plenty of talent and Premier League experience and once helped West Ham to beat us at the Emirates. Luckily enough he is suspended for tonight but the other two could play. Niang is a player we were linked with as a promising youngster but injury problems have not helped and he has not exactly set Italy alight.

Likewise with Cleverley’s career, although on his day the midfielder can be very good. Without showing any disrespect to the pair I do not think either should trouble us too much, but I would be wary about the three arrivals giving the whole Watford squad a lift and them giving Arsenal a tougher test than expected.

Bob.
