Should Arsenal bring back Wojciech Szczesny next season if Ospina leaves?

As yet another disappointing Arsenal season draws to a close, there has been a lot of speculation about the future of the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger and some of the players as well. But now that the under-fire Frenchman has all but confirmed he is staying, it appears that most players who are renegotiating terms will be staying on as well, most of them based on the assurance that the Frenchman will continue at the helm.

But when it comes to the first-team stars currently on loan, while it has been confirmed that injury prone midfielder Jack Wilshere will be offered a new deal, nothing has been mentioned in regards to Arsenal’s forgotten goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. However, a report from the Daily Star claims that the Polish international will be offered new terms to come back as a back-up for first-choice custodian Petr Cech.

With David Ospina desperate for first-team football and Fenerbahce keen on taking the player to Turkey, it looks like the Colombian is on his way out this summer and it appears Arsene Wenger will turn to the Roma loanee to come in as a direct replacement, and for good reason. Szczesny has had a very impressive season in Serie A, keeping as many as 14 clean sheets, more than any other keeper in Italy’s top flight and has even attracted the interest of Napoli, Juventus and Roma in Italy and Borrusia Dortmund in Germany.

But in my opinion, the Serie A is comparatively easier in comparison with the Premier League. The game is not as fast and is is significantly less physical than the English game. However, with that being said, I do believe the player is a lot more mature now and has grown in consistency and character, as his record in Italy’s top flight suggests and he is certainly good enough to be Arsenal’s second-choice keeper. Considering that 27 is relatively young for a goalkeeper, the Pole still has plenty of time to win back his place in the Arsenal side.

  1. I think if Allegri comes in he’ll bring back Szczecny. He’s had most cleansheets this season which is impressive.

    1. Sort of expected, best CB pairing in the world. Buffon, not sure what age he is but that save in the first leg when it was 1-0 reminded me of Oliver Khan and P Schmeichal, but in his own right he’s Buffon. They are able to play two or three forwards who are not great at defending, we can’t even manage that with one Ozil not pitching in.

      1. Sort of not expected, I wouldnt say Roma has the best CB partnership in the world and that is you just being a moaning git and not supporting one of our own players.

Hart is in the Italian league and you later say that the league is basically poor… Yet Szcz saves per goal is almost the same as Neuer and leaving Hart behind in stats.

Why can you not give credit where it is due?
Szcz has done well out on loan and deserves a chance to fight for our number 1 spot from Cech.

Or have you also forgotten that it was Szcz who shared the golden glove with Cech a few years ago… Cech who was in EPL winning Chavski while Szcz was at leaky Arsenal and they shared the golden glove. It was more impressive for Szcz considering the defs of the teams and that is his potential. He only needed to mature in his head and if you only cared about paying attention to our loaned players then you would know Szcz has grown up a lot since we kicked him out on loan.

        1. I thought you meant Allegri’s team has most clean sheets, and you were saying he likes Szcz,, Roma does, yes that is a surprise.

Late reply maybe Ill mention it again.

    1. he’d be bad with Wenger in charge. Plus he likes playing in UCL and almost left Chelsea last season b/c of it

    2. Szcz has 1 more clean sheet than Courtois.
Szcz has nearly 1 extra save per goal compared to Courtois.
Szcz distribution of the ball afterwards is 11% better.

Szcz has played 90 mins more in the league and conceded just 2 more.

If you count up all the catches that Courtois has made in the EPL, then add 25% more to that… that is how many catches Szcz has made this season.

Even though he is better than Courtois you think he isn’t as good…

Stick to FIFA as you have no clue about real football.

  2. Mr. Wenger needs to organise the DM n Defenders then look forward to bringing in Szcesny or any Other Keeper.. Our Team is porous.. If the first and the second line of defense does nothing.. than even a World Class Goalkeeper can’t save U…. #COYG

  3. Szcesny is full of errors, let’s not forget how he was participating when he was here, horrendous goal keeping

  4. The Italian league is very different. There aren’t usually as many goals, they appreciate defending over there higher than in all other leagues. Szcz was always a good shot stopper, until I see he can handle areal balls without leaving it to defenders I will prefer another.

    1. Szcz has more catches than Courtios who some would say is a top GK.

You should try watching football… Szcz has developed. He appears to command his area better now as well.

Szcz big issue has always been his mentality, not strong enough to command his box but yet arrogant enough to think he could get away with breaking the rules and smoke in the club… Weak mentality.

That loan move appears to have given him a kick up the backside, he has said he wants to return and he still loves Arsenal.

  5. Honestly I prefer szczensy to cech, nd I u have watched him this season u will know that he has been the best goal keeper in Italy considering he is playing for roma nd not juventus..
Plus there are not much better goal keepers out there….
Cech is only going to get worse nd Martinez is championship material at best

  6. People should watch Szcz before making comments that are YEARS OLD and being repeated like a bleat from sheep.

Szcz appears to have matured and doing damned well, if he was a new name to you all then you would be creaming your pants right now with rumors linking him to us.

  7. To me, it seems Ospina is underrated. I would keep him at all cost given how hard it would be and how expensive it would be to find a better keeper. If I had to I would make Cech the back-up to Ospina since Ospina has more years left in him and Cech although a solid presence has not been at the levels he used to be at.

Given Wenger’s personality I think it will be impossible for Sczc to get back to Arsenal while Wenger is in charge.
