Should Arsenal cash-in on City target and buy wonderkid?

Arsenal are said to be keeping tabs on Benfica youngster Goncalo Guedes, while they are also claimed to be contemplating the sale of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Gunners midfielder has come under fire in recent seasons, having failed to land himself a regular first-team role despite numerous chances, and with injuries regularly stunting his progress, you would struggle to argue strongly against his exit.

We at JustArsenal were lobbying about the idea of sending the Ox on loan, much like the move which has seen Jack Wilshere begin to shine once again this season, but Chamberlain has played a role in helping our side to stay in the title rice this term.

Alex is currently our second-most provider of assists in the Premier League this term with four, but time and time again he has failed to star when being selected in the starting XI, and as we look at possibly improving our squad next month, there could be better options on the market.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is claimed to be an admirer of the former Southampton youth product, and is also said to be ready to make an offer of £25 Million for his signature which we may have to mull over.

We are now said to be looking at the possibility of signing Goncalo Guedes, with the 20 year-old impressing for Benfica at present. PSG are also linked with his signing, but with the French side having acquired Julian Draxler ahead of the coming window, they should be well equipped out wide.

Guedes has pace, skill and the ability and bravery to take on the shot, and could potentially be world class in the future, although the tag of the next CR7 seem rather exaggerated.

Is it time to cash-in on the Ox? Could Guedes be the ideal replacement?

  1. I love The Ox. You can see he loves the club too, with his passion and determination to do well. Unfortunately more than often his performances have not been up to scratch. The sad thing is you can see that he has what it takes to be a big player for this club. He has pace, strength and good dribbling skills, but lacks in what is seen as the most important attributes in todays game- “THE FINAL BALL”. I have seen the lad on numerous occasions get into dangerous opposition territory but let himself, the fans and the team down with a poor cross or poor finish.
It would be such a shame to lose such a talent but I feel if we can get someone better and someone who will improve the squad then it is time to let The Ox go. Having said that I cant help but think this sale might come and bite us back on the Arse for selling to one of our direct rivals.

    1. “He has pace, strength and good dribbling skills, but lacks in what is seen as the most important attributes in todays game- “THE FINAL BALL”. Amd for this very reason have I advocated for the Ox to be converted to a Left Back, he can really help us drive forward from the back and with Bellerin on the other flank, we get good balance. Did you know his father, Mark Chamberlain also made the switch from winger to full back?

      1. Full back- and that at LEFT BACK!! If Wenger ever did that the media and majority of fans would slaughter him!
If anything I see him converting to central role where he can drive at the opposition and burst past players to make openings for our forward players to do the damage in the final 3rd.

        1. James Milner, Antonio Valencia, Victor Moses and our very own Hector Bellerin, Kolo Toure, Lauren And even Gibbs were once attacking players, with the exception of Bellerin, I don’t see these players as being more special than the Ox but guess what? He has to sit on the bench most of the time with Monreal or Gibbs on the pitch, recall his cross for Giroud against Man. U? I bet he’d have tried cutting in if he was brought in to play on the wing, hed have lost the ball and we’d have lost the game.

  2. It is the transfer season again, more made up media stories to fit the facts or fans concerns. We just need to concentrate on winning the next game. If we do sign anyone it will be a youngster for the future.

  3. Letting one “1 for the future” player in the Ox and replacing him with another 1 for the future player from Benifica does not make much sense really.

If we are to let Ox leave, we need an improvement, a player who will go straight into the starting 11 as we will remain with Iwobi as the under study and Perez as the back up option. We should not let Ox go to one of our rivals, if Pep starts tapping our players tell him to send Iheanacho, Sane or their new Brazilian striker the other way and we can start talking from there. Should he want Sanchez, we should only start talking should he include Kun in the deal otherwise he should go fishing elsewhere.

  4. When Oxlade goes to Man City ,he would be like the new Messi. The Ox is brilliant but needs a manager to train him to be that Sought of brilliance we all want him to be.
Wenger can’t tap the potentials in the players but managers like pep ,Koeman …. ……..can.
let’s change the manager and if the new manager arrives but still, the Ox could not perform then,we sell him.
