Should Arsenal go all-out for £50M Alexis replacement?

Arsenal are being linked with a move to sign James Rodriguez from Real Madrid this summer, while Alexis Sanchez looks destined to quit the club.

The Chilean is out of contract in 2018 and looks no closer to signing an extension, which will leave Arsenal at risk of losing him for free in a year if they do not find a buyer in the coming window.

Alexis has supposedly told team-mates that he will quit the club at the end of the season, which will leave a big hole in the first-team, with the forward having been hugely important this term in terms of goals, assists and general leadership on the pitch.

He will take some replacing, but one player who could go a long way to filling that void is James Rodriguez.

The Colombian has become one of the most talented players on the continent since making his €80 Million move from Monaco following a highly impressive World Cup campaign, and has proven to be one of the most consistent creative players in his side, despite being used sparingly.

The 25 year-old is currently vying with Isco, Lucas Vasquez, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale amongst others for attacking roles in the first-team, and is supposedly open to a move in order to feature more heavily.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City are also believed to be keen on his signature, and if our club is serious about overhauling or failing squad, then the board need to show that in the transfer window by backing big moves.

James is a highly excited prospect, and should Alexis leave, Rodriguez may well be the best option available to replace him.

Who could be a better option than James? Would he be perfect?

  1. James to replace Sanchez for 50M ? Is this a joke?
Sanchez is an outstanding talent, a fighter, but sometimes a bit too selfish.
    James is just selfish…

  2. James Rodriguez cannot replace Sanchez. I think only Neymar, Draxler, Bale, Suarez, Cavani, Aubameyang, Lewandowski, Messi or Lacazette can replace him currently. Unfortunately Arsenal is unwilling to purchase players with 50 million plus price tag. If we cannot get mega stars to replace Ozil, Sanchez and other first team players next season, hopefully Arsenal can still get exciting prospects like Munir El Haddadi, Lucas Vazquez and Jese Rodriguez.

  3. Well, I think we all made peace with Alexis leaving next window, whoever replaces him will not make any difference. What we need is a revamp of this team, which is only possible if……

  4. If Wenger stays I don’t care what happens to Sanchez or who replaces him.

Wenger has no appreciation for the striker role. Top clubs have main strikers, Costa – Chelsea, Ibra-Man U, Aguero – City, Lewndowski – Bayern, etc. We have arguably the most talented striker in the PL in Sanchez yet we have been playing him on the left wing where even Wenger himself said last year that Sanchez is too predictable on the left. Welbeck can play on the left and is not as good as Sanchez in the center.

Wenger constantly changes our central striker, that does not work IMO. Central strikers need game rythm.

James is a winger and not a central striker. We need a central striker in the mold of Aubamayang, Lewandowski, Benzema, Lacazette even Lukaku.

  5. Haha no thanks. He is as overrated and defensively useless as Ozil.
Isco would be the one I would go for from Real. He would be our next Santi.

  6. James Rodriguez and Sanchez do not play the same position. Rodriguez is more of a number 10, he can replace Ozil.
