Should Arsenal pay Oxlade-Chamberlain £100k a week?

After impressing significantly in his new wing-back role, the Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to be rewarded a bumper new contract to stay in North London. According to John Cross of the Daily Mirror, the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is set to make the England international a part of Arsenal’s elite £100,000 a week club.

After struggling to live up to the hype that he created since arriving at the Emirates as an 18-year-old, the winger has had a comparatively better campaign this season and has excelled particularly in his new wing-back role.
Considering that the player has only one year to run on his current deal, there has been a lot of speculation over a potential departure, with both Liverpool and Manchester United said to be closely monitoring developments.

But has the Ox actually been consistent enough to warrant a deal worth £100,000 a week? In all honesty, I don’t think he’s done enough. Apart from some glimpses of brilliance, the former Southampton star has once again not been the most consistent of performers, although I must admit that he’s improved on that front since Arsene Wenger shifted to the new back-three system and has shown improvements in his final ball as well.

But the fact that Wenger is set to offer a deal of that magnitude to a 23-year-old mostly on the fringes of the team tells me that the under-fire Arsenal boss is set to modify the wage bill ahead of the new campaign. So with that being said, if Oxlade-Chamberlain has done enough to warrant a deal worth £100,000 a week, then surely Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez surely deserve in excess of £200 a week?

  1. Getting rid of Jenkinson, Debuchy, Mertesacker who are all deadwood and don’t even make the bench, should free up nice amount of money to pay the players who actually play.

Jesse Lingard is making 100k a week at United. Can’t see why we couldn’t offer OX that much. He plays well as a CM and a WB.

  2. You’ve got to love the EPL, players like Theo , Lingard, Sterling and a whole host of average players get way more money than players like Isco, Thiago, Dyabala, Bonochi, etc. Anyway in the case of Ox should he keep up with good performances and stay away from the treatment room then he is worth that kind of money in this market. Ox has similar treats as Mane, he just needs to add finishing to his brilliant bursts.

A new coach with fresh ideas can unleash the Ox beast mode, if not then off with you and carry Theo along with you.

  3. Just two beautiful runs and you think he deserves 100k. What has he done that’s spectacular this season? How many goals? How many assist?

Compare him with Dele Alli 50k
    Christian Erickson 70k, Son 70k

    WHF!

Get rid of him now before he becomes a deadwood posing hard to dispose like king Benthner.

  4. Trouble is he seems to be a confidence type player and a bit inconsistent. To me, that’s not worth 100k a week. Just like when Walcott got his contract a couple of years ago that wasn’t worth the 100k + that he got.

Part of me thinks they pay these inflated wages not for the players ability but to stop them going to rivals. It also highlights the lack of truly talented and impact type players when Walcott/Ox are supposedly worth that much. They ain’t.

  5. why dont you so called fans stop complaining about issues that real fans dont want to hear about.week in week out only rubish to wright about.

  6. I really dont know how salaries work
Why Giroud gets £90,000 pw but Theo gets £120-140,000?

We need a bit of a clearout of players

All i know is that we have a lot of average players and we should sell them to free up money for Top players

For forwards we have Alexis, Giroud, Welbeck, Campbell, Ox, Iwobi, Lucas, Campbell, Akpom, Sanogo. We should sell a 2-3 of those to fund another Top forward

We also need to consider selling Ramsey, Jenkinson, Debuchy, maybe Mert

You cant just add. We should depth of quality players

  7. He is good and he is showing what he can do but he ain’t a $100k a week player yet. They want to pay that to Ox who has played well in the last 2 months and are dicking around with Alexis. Pay the man the money he is worth every penny. We would be in the relegation zone this season with out him seriously.

  8. No he isn’t a hundred grand weekly player. The problem is we have to offer it to keep him in the hope he becomes worthy of his wage. City Che Utd they’d offer him it if it’s true they really want him, so we have offer the same or risk losing him and risk him proving potential another club.
