Should Arsenal pay Ozil more than Alexis?

OZIL set to be offered more than Alexis in contract negotiations!

Yesterday news broke that Arsenal had stopped all contract negotiations with contract rebels Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. However today it’s being reported that Arsenal do plan on offering Ozil a lot more than his teammate, in what is a rather surprising move!

The sagas surrounding Ozil and Alexis have been lasting all season, with negotiations first opening last summer. It seems that the main demands are around ambition at Arsenal, something which is very doubtful at the moment. But of course finances also play their part and it’s understood that both are in demand of £200k plus. Despite Arsenal’s best efforts, there has been little to agree on so far, let alone getting signatures on the dotted line.

The Gunners have had contract offers drawn up for the duo, probably for quite some time. However with neither willing to accept, Arsenal will have to up their offers financially. The last time the contract offers were widely reported, it was understood the club was offering around £160-180k each for the players. Now however, with the contracts ticking down day by day, Arsenal have supposedly increased their offers and Ozil has supposedly been given the bigger wage.

Both players are understood to desire at least £200k, but it’s only Ozil that has been offered said amount. Alexis on the other hand is still being offered £20k short of the demand.

It seems like a relatively strange decision by the Arsenal bosses, but of course nothing is particularly surprising when it comes to the Gunners management anymore. However it is odd for Arsenal to offer a player, who has been largely inconsistent during his Arsenal career, more money than our biggest star. Out of the two, it’s Alexis who deserves to be on the bigger financial package and to be honest, out of the two I think it’s Alexis who is more motivated by finances in his demands.

Ozil’s future seems quite heavily dependent upon Arsene Wenger’s commitment to the club. Whilst Sanchez seems to be more demanding towards being paid a higher figure up with his fellow world class footballers across the continent. Both players obviously desire more ambition from Arsenal, but right now I don’t know how likely it is that we’ll see much improvement in the trophy cabinet over the coming years.

I don’t expect both to leave in the summer, but it seems that if this latest twist of events is deemed to be true, then of course it’s likely to put another thorn in Alexis’ side. After all the Chilean just wants more of a challenge and to be paid on par with the talent he shows week in week out.

  1. i cannot remember last time Ozil played for us i thought he has left already no?

i don’t think Alexis will stay unless we have a new top manager and with the promise of two or three top player signings

  2. Alexis deserves more. his hard work, contribution to the team and so on, Ozil is good but not on the same level as Alexis.

  3. I kind of agree with the Arsenal board on this! Sanchez has been so unprofessional in his attitude so far, making jest of Arsenal’s failure on the pitch! Ozil on the other hand has not acted like a kid who desperately wants his ice-cream! if Sanchez wants to go, let him go please…we are Arsenal, we can still attract world class players, with or without Wenger

    1. Alexis has been acting selfish, it is upsetting as a fan as I would love to say he has passion for Arsenal but that would be as deluded as thinking the spuds could win the EPL XD

Ozil I fear needs a strong CM behind him to get the best out of him, Cazorla use to find him so much and at the times when Ozil wants it and into the places he is moving into… Cazorla is IMO our best CM player and look how he can pick up players around him.

People are moaning about Coquelin now, was they when Cazorla was fit and playing regularly? Coquelin then was our saviour in CM… IMO Hindsight shows us it was Cazorla who made him look better.

I would like to keep both tho 😛

  4. With all honesty if I had to choose one over the other, I would choose Alexis. He is world class, hard working and aggressive minded

Ozil could be a world beater if he would
    1. Adopt Alexis ‘s work ethic
    2. Be more aggressive
    3. Shoot more often

He can do all those things. He just needs to do it.

Last season he had an excellent season scoring the most assists in the PL nearly beating henry’ s record and helping us finish 2nd. Part of the reason was he worked on his body with weight training. He was physically bigger than before

Now he needs to work on mental strength and work ethic. I still have belief in him but he needs to believe in himself

As far as money goes. I don’t care as long as they both stay which unfortunately is unlikely

    1. He won’t do any of those things. Would you change your personality/work ethic at 28-years of age when you will be paid the same amount of money, or even more, regardless?

  5. I have read that one of the issues with Alexis is the ambition being shown by the club, he wants to win things.

It sounds like he wants to leave as he feels we will not win things.

Maybe the board are offering Ozil more because he would be willing to stay at a club that isn’t winning if he is paid to compensate for that…

IMO Arsenal should do everything they can to keep BOTH of them and add to the WC in the summer, show some ambition and convince them both we will be winning stuff very soon.

We do pay a lot in wages for average quality yet a lot of that is running low on contract, maybe the club isn’t offering so many contracts as they wish to get rid of some of them, we all know Arsenal as a club are not great at getting the right transfers done and that also includes selling.

  6. Ozil is what I consider a luxury player, someone who can add a bit extra now and again.
He wasn’t worth the money when we bought him and he aint worth a place now. Sell him.
Sanchez is one of the best players we have bought in the last 10 years, and is about the only good thing Wenger has done in that time too. Its sad that we will lose him, he tries so hard every time he goes out to play.

  7. ozil is le prof-its costliest blunder. a panic buy to quieten the fans .now wenger wont even play him , funny that is .
