Should Arsenal rest Ozil and Ramsey for FA cup clash with Hull?

I think it is important for Arsenal to play as strong a team as possible in Hull on Tuesday night because a good win is just what we need to carry on from the battling draw at White Hart Lane yesterday. And we could really do without extra time and penalties with an already congested fixture schedule so if possible we want to get the job done in 90 minutes.

In that case you might think that it is strange for me to suggest resting Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil, especially after the Welshman scored a great goal against the spuds and Ozil has been easily our best player of the season so far. However, I do not think that resting them on Tuesday will necessarily weaken us, because both players are looking a bit jaded to me.

Against Hull City on their own turf I think that energy could be just as important as technical quality, so playing Alex Iwobi and Mohamed Elneny instead of Rambo and Ozil could be the right move as both are fresh, fast and hard working. Coquelin will be banned of course so Flamini can come in and so the extra defensive strength of Elneny could be important, whereas Ramsey tends to be a bit over adventurous at times.

Do you think that Arsenal should rest these two big players against the Tigers?

  1. campbell, iwobi, chambers, walcott, giroud, flamini all will play
sanchez ozil rambo mert will b out

    1. This is not a straight forward answer as it depends on a number of things.

      1. Do we want to win this, is it a priority? I believe Wenger wants to win it and I want the three Cups in a row record. So lets go with that.

      2. Who played full 90 minutes on Saturday and who can recover quickly? Ozil did not play the full 90 minutes and apart from a knee injury he recovers quickly. Ramsey on the other hand is prone to muscular injuries particularly the hamstring. He needs recovery time. I therefore believe Ozil is okay to play this game. Whilst Ramsey should come from the bench.

Sanchez played the full 90 minutes and put in a massive shift. It feels to me that I should give him a break for this game. The dilemma is Walcott or Owobi on the left. I would give Owobi the chance as he is two footed and can play down the left but I suspect Wenger will pick his more senior man.

I understand Koscielny is likely to be fit and I would straight away slot him into the back 4. You don’t need the rest as a centre half.
      Team
      ———————-Ospina
      Chambers – Mertesacker – Koscielny – Gibbs
      ———– Flaminia – El Neny
      ——Campbell – Ozil – Walcott
      ——————–Giroud

Bench: Macey, Bellerin, Gabriel, Ramsey, Sanchez, Owobi, Wellbeck

  2. Yep… Rest them both, as well as Sanchez!
Monreal is carrying a knock ( calf injury)

I think that the subs bench against the Spuds, will give us a clue to who will be starting against Hull.

    ————————– Ospina
    Bellerin/ Chambers, Mertesacker, Gabriel, Gibbs
    ————–Flamini —— Elneny/Chambers
    ——–Campbell —— Iwobi —– Walcott
    —————————- Giroud

I doubt that Koscielny will be fit for this one,
Monreal is injured, and maybe wenger will give Bellerin a rest?

    1. careful SoOpa: many times before we’ve gotten our hopes up about wenger leaving and he has clung on.
media are just clickbaiting us. they know what we want to hear and they prey on us relentlessly.

  3. What’s up with this debate of resting our players all the time?! I don’t see players from other teams getting rested. Wenger is always talking about making substitutions as the player got tired. Its as if only our players have a pair of lungs on them.

Watched Rondon’s performance yesterday. That dude was playing as if it was a World Cup Final and single handedly took the entire United’s defence for a horror ride. He was chasing balls, making runs into channels, holding up, battling in the air and topping it all of with a scintillating finish. And then we have our lot of spoilt brats.

  4. don’t really care who’s rested and who’s played on the day………it’s like taking in vinegar for all My whetted appetite

those words kept reverberating in my head “Judge Him At The End Of The Season”

    1. Hahaha ??

Don’t worry man…. The weeks are flying by! ?
      Hang on in there!
‘Official’ Judgement day is closer than it looks.

  6. No amateur or professional pundits can totally predict what the Boss’ starts against Hull will be on Tuesday night at the KC Stadium. A ground where Arsenal have won in their past recent outing there, I should believe.

However, we can be guided by some prevailing factors to arrive near the Boss’ starts for the game. Such as the Gunners state of health as will be revealed during the Boss’ press conference today and his likely resting of some Gunners for the upcoming WBA LKO match at the Ems on Saturday, in such a way that the resting will not unbalanced our team on the night in Hull.

My wile guess starts for Hull:
    Ospina.
    ChambersRhino’DeAberuGibbs.
    ElnenyFlamini.
    IwobiRamseyCampbell.
    Giroud.
    My bench:
    MaceyBellerinKoscielnyMonrealOzilWalcottWelbeck.

I am afraid Ramsey can’t be rested if Ozil is rested and Elneny & if Flamini are started. Ramsey will be the playmaker for this replay as he even likes to attack forward in search of goals. Remember we don’t have Oxchabo for this game. So, I foresee the Boss starting Iwobi in his place at mid-right position and Campbell at mid-left in place of Sanchez who I have completely rested for the WBA match. Let’s wait to see the Boss’ starts to know what percentage of his starts I’ve scored.

    1. Hey mate! ?
You obviously don’t know that .. if we beat Hull.. We will be playing Watford on Saturday, in the next round of the Fa cup and not WBA!!

If we lose to Hull then we will be playing WBA on Saturday ?

  7. We all know those players the author mentioned have not been playing in the FA cup…
Ozil have not played, Ramsey a sub against Sunderland..
The front three should be Sanchez,Giroud, Campbell…its obvious Flamini and El will be in midfield..A win is needed!!

  8. No, sure the FA cup is all we have now. Also we need to build some confidence back up. I think we should go with our strongest possible line up, remember Cazorla Coquelin and Cech will be missing, they are three huge players. If there is possibility of losing CL place well that may come into thinking. But I expect our strongest, it is away and Hull were flying in championship these teams can be tough if not taken seriously.

  9. Feb and March have seen
Arsenal on the brink of ECL
    elimination, facing an away 5th
round FA cup replay and sliding
8 points off the EPL lead.
Compounding this are injuries to Cech
Koz and the loss of Cazorla for the season.
Ox is injured again while Wilshere is not yet back.
Ozil Ramsey Bellerin are playing non stop
and many are playing below par.
My pick is FA Cup winners.
    EPL 2nd.
    ECL eliminated by Barca.

  10. something interesting i saw on Saturday when Ozil was substituted for Campbell, i wish Wenger can try Campbell in Ozil position tomorrow because Campbell is technical and smart player, his passing is accurate no to mention his workrate it could work, but hey knowing Wenger he lack creativity he is one trick pony

  11. we shoudl not rest anybody
what for? this is a must win match rest them instead for Barca game which is done and dusted already

    Ospina
    Bellerin Mert Gabriel Gibbs
    Elneny Flamini
    Campbell Ramsey Sanchez
    Giroud

this is a game that we have to work hard and stay together

  12. The mentioning of 2 players in the article one being world class and the other being completely useless. Fir them to be mentioned in the same sentence is an insult, Wow one goal scored n all the last 30+ games including last year which were of the worst standard seen every from a “so called top player ” have been completely forgotten again by some fickle fans.

Tomorrow’s game is at his level throw him in he may look like a superstar and be “Wirldbeater” again lol #rambo# wengerfave #garbage#getrid

  13. I would rest Sanchez, Ozil, Ramsey and Welbeck. I would give Elneny only 60 minutes since I would like him to start against West Brom and would not even be upset if he comes on as a 30 minute sub for Flamini or Chambers.

I would give Chambers some serious game time and start Giroud in the center and Walcott on the right wing.
