Should Arsenal risk Ramsey against Man City?

Arsene Wenger has stated that he has worries over the fitness of Aaron Ramsey following his groin injury, and is unlikely to field him in the League Cup final come Sunday.

The Welshman has been amongst our most consistent performers this season, and bagged his first senior hat/trick this month also, but has failed to feature since due to a groin issue.

Ramsey is now confirmed to be missing for tomorrow’s Europa League second-leg tie with Ostersund, and remains unlikely to feature on Sunday also.

“It is a little bit sensitive case because we expected him to be a bit further in his development of the groin problem and he doesn’t move forward as quickly as we expected it,” he said.

“Today we would say that certainly he will not be available even for the next game against Ostersunds.

“Maybe for the cup final, we don’t know yet, it depends how he will progress from now.”

Ramsey would have been a huge loss had it not been for the return to form of Jack Wilshere, who may well have found himself starting ahead of his Welsh counterpart even had he been fit.

The possibility remains that both players could play in a makeshift 4-5-1 formation, but Alex Iwobi may well get a place in the side for the cup final in Ramsey’s absence.

Do we need both Ramsey and Wilshere in the team to cause City real problems? Would Ramsey have been ahead of Jack for Sunday’s line-up?

  1. Ramsey provides a different threat. Ozil, Mikhi and Jack are better technically but they don’t help defensively and they hardly score. we need goals and someone to run for 90 mins because against City they won’t have the ball. I would prefer midfield 3 of Ramsey, AMN and Xhaka

  2. I would rather have Ramsey with one leg than Iwobi in the team but you know Wenger. He won’t want his 2 lovechilds to miss out on a game at Wembley.

  3. Ramsey will leave us exposed due of him having the Walcott flue. Ppl say that he does run and defend but what i see at times are 6 players charging up front with Ramsey being ahead big time. But who else can we play if not for him. Iwobi? Jesus.

We have the striker we needed now playerw should focus on their duties. Diff game but a win is possible.

  4. Watch the wigan game and add the attacking flair to our game. our DM should stay in front of the 2 CBs and not be drawn into pressing. DM should watch Gilberto’s, Makelele’s, Petit, Scholes and Busquet way of positioning himself.

  5. Last time Ramsey played against City (earlier in the season), he was a huge reason we lost that game. He got caught in possession so many times. Bring him off the bench if needs be, but do not start him.

  6. It will make no difference what ever team Wenger picks. He will still have not coached all of them properly and ruined the whole defence. City will walk all over us. Realism triumphs over false hope, at least in me. I just want Wenger gone and until he is, our club is a lost club.

    1. Lose the game or not, Wenger is not likely to go until the end of his current contract. If i were you i will support the team to win as much as possible while he is still around instead of being negative all the time. For Ramsey starting or not; i don’t care about him. I ve never been his fan. He has not convinced me over time his quality.

  7. No other top 6 team would have this guy as a starter … He’s ok on the bench but at this moment I would go kolosinac and wilshere in midfield with ozil miki laca and pea as attacking force … Otherwise they will overrun the midfield and dominate possession … But as with the imperishable mr fox I have no interest in an ersatz victory based on man city underperforming and giving the fossil an excuse to “respect his contract”

  8. Seeing as Ramsey is our best CM player I would say yes. Seeing as he played very well against these and others in last seasons cup I would say hell yes. This season he is doing better than most PL players in his position, just more cause to stick him in there. Is he playing very well in every game he plays, of course not. But his consistency has been good for a long spell now, so nit picking is a bit weak to be totally real. His energy, his hustling, his competing, his off the ball running esp, his final third positioning, and his stamina to keep it going throughout is definitely needed …esp. Give them hell! Rambo!!!!
