Should Arsenal sell Aaron Ramsey to one of our biggest rivals?

It looks like there is a going to be a big shake-up to the Arsenal squad this summer after Arsene Wenger’s departure so we can expect to see quite a few of Wenger’s favourite players moving on to make room for new arrivals.

We all know Jack Wilshere is still undecided on whether to stay or go, but the biggest player we have to worry about leaving is the Welshman Aaron Ramsey, who is entering the final year of his contract at the Emirates, and he would certainly command a large transfer fee after a very impressive season for us.

I am pretty certain that Ramsey is very loyal to Arsenal, but right now the fact is that he is more likely to win trophies if he joined one of our bigger rivals and he would probably get a larger wage packet as well.

According to the bookies, Liverpool are the club most likely to sign Ramsey and they are priced at 2/1 with the FA Cup winners Chelsea second favourites at 4/1. Man United are right behind at 5/1 and Champions Man City are listed at 9/1, although I doubt that they need any more top midfielders…

Wenger was always adamant that he wouldn’t strengthen a rival again after Man United got Robin van Persie all those years ago, but this season Alexis Sanchez went to Man United and Oxlade-Chamberlain went to Liverpool, so it looks like that policy has gone out the window.

Should Arsenal offer Ramsey sky-high wages to stay or should we let him join a rival?

  1. What a silly title for an article.

Selling our best players is what makes us look like a small club ffs

      1. he wasn’t even that good this season, but he got voted Player of the Season, and it’s really hard to argue he’s not. Just goes to show how awful we have been.

        1. We need to sell theses no.10 type players and get some CM’s and wide players bcoz wenger played through the middle to much but now we need a balanced team. We can’t do anything with this team until we have our own sterling or sane or mane type players. We used to have Alexis, Walcott and the Ox but we sold them and haven’t replaced them so sell Ramsey and wilshere replace them with seri, Jorginho or savic coz we already have ozil and mhki then buy fekir and Leon Bailey if we really want challenge and have an actual chance of winning away from home coz wide players are key to winning away games

            1. If arsenal let Liverpool buy fekir aswell as keita van dijk mane salah firminho then we will be misled behind them coz arsenal need to start taking the best young players around if we won’t to build again. We can’t keep letting other clubs add to there already quality teams when we need these players more

    1. I would give this “best” player to ManUtd as a troyan horse… but Mourinho is not that stupid… very soon Aaron would end up playing for Inter Milan, at the best.

    2. If Ramsey is tired of being at Arsenal, PLEASE SELL HIM OFF NOW. I WILL HATE TO EXPERIENCE A SIMILAR TRAGIC TRANSFER SAGA AS WE HAD WITH SANCHEZ. Once a player’s heart is no longer with his club, you don’t expect him to give his best.

      1. I think that selling Sanchez was a great deal.
I think selling RVP was a mistake and Wenger had to go even then!
Selling Ramsey and clearing out some of Wengers boys will be great for the club and future transfers.

        1. selling sanchez was okay deal. Miki has been better than Alexis, but a GREAT deal wouldve been selling Sanchez to City in summer for 60mill. Of course we then would’ve all blamed AW for giving City the title though.

            1. I agree that we had to sell Sanchez before to ManCity but somehow I like that now he has a “great time” with Mourinho 😉
and you are totally right… our budget would have been still 50 mil 🙁

    3. No way a great and loyal player turned down United for us. We should be grateful to jim

      1. Be grateful to him lol
The only reason he choose us was because he wouldn’t have got a game at manutd ,and he still wouldnt now either.

    4. Yes ramsey is our best player.

while the likes of wilshere and ozil are nowhere to be seen..ramsey delivers.

    5. DONE DEAL:Arteta has just signed to be Arsenal manager.Deal will be announced on Thursday.
News coming in is that Sokratis is coming for £22m for 2 years.
Caglar Soyuncu is coming for £35m.

    6. Arteta(coach),Soyuncu(£35m) and Sokratis(£22m) are now done. Will keep u guys up to date.

The Ramsey sale looks more and more imminent.
Also, ignore all Leon Bailey rumours. The price being quoted for him is £60m.

      1. Oh no, the summer transfer season must be near, Kev is sharing his insider intel again… He was so right with all of his predictions last year too… 😉

  2. Ramsey is to be named captain
    of Arsenal for this season.
In 6 years time he will
    become Arsenal manager.

    1. You are very funny, should we be selling our best (better) players to other clubs at all. I really don’t understand the article. Imagine if Sanchez was in the team that played against Atletico? Who knows what could have happened. We would have had at least one player who would be ready to break down their defence.

      1. I would rather have Auba and Miki then two Sanchezes.
Sanchez is childlish and soon finished…

      1. I disagree – we should sell half the team to anyone stupid enough to buy them. And that includes Ramsey.

  3. The player has been allowed to hold all the cards. With one year on his contract he can pretty much hold the club to ransom and this is what Ozil and Sanchez were able to do last season.Ramsey is good-but not that good.He is replaceable. He brings goals and energy to the team (when fit) but is also frustrating with his little flicks and turns that always lose possession. He believes acall from Barca or Madrid will happen. It won’t.So seriously what are his option Citeh- no chance.Manure-can’t see that one but he’s a big improvement on a lot of what they have.Chelski-Could happen but not sure he would start.Liverpool-No way Klopp would have him.
So IF the new manager wants him to stay(Arteta) then it should be more on our terms than his.
And as for making him Captain I’m not too sure of that at all

  4. Ramsey is a nobody but arsenal has its way to make those nobodys into looking good. A bench player at best in a big team. Sell him and lets invest in a proper cm or dm.

  5. Hello Ramsey lovers, where are you? Not awake yet?
I am waiting for you all to start real protests to save Ramsey from going somewhere else. You can make a threat that you all would change club you support for new Ramseys club! The Board would be out of their minds with fear, specially Sven and Raul.
…and ask Wenger to be your media person, he needs something to do, and he wouldnt be able to say no cos he s also in love!

    1. @Maks Why are you are such an aggressive poster? There are many fans that think that Ramsey is a very good player, in fact Arsenal fans voted him as Player-of-the-Season and voted to give him the Goal of the season as well. Why would that mean that they are “Ramsey lovers”?

      1. Fact that number of fans praise him high doesn’t mean that he is really that good. Majority of people doesn’t mean real value. Look who is your prime minister or who is president of USA. And there are lot of Arsenal fans who understand football and do not value players on his looks or fact that he is from UK. If Ozil is from UK some english fans would came just on his picture.
Wenger forced Ramsey for years into first 11 and now we have him who is not good enough at all. I dnt mind his “great” stats when Arsenal finished 37 points behind ManCity and 14 behind 5pur2. Maybe this difference is excatlly the real value of Ramsey (and some others).
Fabregas wanted to return to Arsenal and Wenger did not allow it just for ramsey to have easy living in first 11.
Wenger is OUT, now is time to clear Arsenal from some of his boys.

    2. he hates ramsey for no apparent reason.
      ignore maks.

maks was the same guy who said arsenal should sign nuhri sahin to replace ramsey ?

  6. I don’t rate Ramsey but having said that we have a shortage of decent midfield players. If we can get good money for him, great. Also, let’s not pay him a crazy salary making him hard to sell in the future.

I hope Arteta can make him a better player. His lack of discipline makes him a defensive liability.

Pitty, we allowed Wilshire to ba able to leave for free.

    1. yup. Shouldve been sold last summer along with Sanchez. I can see why we didn’t do it though. No good reason jack shouldn’t have been let go though.

  7. Arteta should rebuild the squad with his own players ….a new team

Ramsay, Wilshere, Welbeck, Kos, Mustafic, Monreal, Bellerin, Ospina, Kos, Ozil, Xhaka and Cech should be sold for Arteta to build his new own team….

Those signed this season should remain such as Mkhi, Auba and Laca…..as they are new

  8. We wont sell him.

ramsey is our best player together with pierre emerick aubameyang.

Ramsey is our new captain next season.

he will sign a new deal and will be promised the captains armband and the number 10 jersey.

    1. Not often I agree with the ‘enemy’ but Gary Neville’s comment on Ramsey and Xhaka during the EFL cup final just before Man City scored was spot on:
“In the minute before that goal, I mentioned the walking of the Arsenal players and then the retreating ‘runs’ of Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka, ambling, jogging back – an absolute disgrace they are, an absolute disgrace. Walking on a football pitch at Wembley, giving up, spineless.”
My thoughts exactly. Sell them both along with Welbeck, Iwobi and Elneny and let’s rebuild with PROPER players.

  9. what are your says on Serej Milinkovic-Savic (lazio)
plzzzzzz arsenal fans spread the word we need him
    he has everything

    1. He even has a name we can’t pronounce !!
Then again sokratis last name is crazy :

      Papayabadabbadomolhelpmemynameistoolongdopodis

  10. Definitely sell. Apart from being wack he is also injury prone

  11. Definitely not to Liverpool they would never sell to us Klopp pretty much said that! They should be told not to inquire about any of our players again.. Wenger is gone now so maybe our mentality of selling to rivals is over.

  12. Not going to happen anyways. They just got Naby Keita, are supposedly very close to getting Fekir, already have Wijnaldum, Lallana, Ox, Milner in the same position Ramsey plays. Packed midfield. Somewhat believable rumour tho. Arsenal need to sell to buy, but Ramsey is one that Arsenal should keep. Mustafi, Ospina, Welbeck, should be guarantee sales. And if anyone wants to bite of Xhaka that should be done as well. A lot of our players did not make world cup. Arsenal should start sorting this stuff out ASAP, so please just announce Arteta already.

  13. Liverpool are building and amazing team .
What they have already a strong team and exciting manager

    Plus
    Naby keita
    Nabil fekir

We are looking at Lego hair and sokratis
Can someone teleport me to 1999

    This is some bull##@@

  14. RAMSEY IS A GOOD BUT FAR FROM GREAT OR IRREPLACEABLE PLAYER. If he is intent on leaving , so be it. We WILL GET FAR BETTER PLAYERS THAN HIM, And more importantly, FAR more reliable too!

    1. If we sell Ramsey and get a replacement that still leaves our squad thin in midfield quality. Club should sell deadwood first and work to keep Ramsey. Mustafi has no business here, along with Xhaka. Each could easily go for 20-25mill each. I think Ramsey can get better under right management. mainly stop him from leaving midfield at the wrong times and leaving us vulnerable to counterattacks (we’ll see if Arteta is the right guy, impossible to know). His high contribution can’t be ignored this season and I think we’d be better off with him in the squad. Finding midfielders that can score and assist as much as Ramsey has is not easy. And he’s the only midfielder in our squad that can consistently do this.

      1. Ramsey IS a deadwood, and a symbol of Wengers last 10 years. Just read (if you have patience and concentration) other posts… maybe you will learn something.

      2. It is clearly true that Ramsey is not part of our large forest of deadwood but nor is he as good a player as he thinks and if he wishes to leave, he will find he plays less than now, unless he goes to Everton, Burnley or Palace and that lower level. I doubt he would choose that. Which team above us would regularly play him? Not one I believe. If even Williian could not get in Chelseas cup final start eleven, then Ramsey has zero chance with them. And they finished fifth. Not one team above them would play Ramsey, except occasionally. We should offer him what the club thinks fit and not a penny more and leave the decision to him.

  15. To me he’s been part of the problem over the last ten years. If any of those so called big clubs offer us decent money, take it. Easily replaceable and if it’s silly money their offering, snatch their hand off as soon as possible.

  16. Ramsay has been ok, but could be better, good going forward, not the best defensively coming back, are there better players available, YES.

This ridiculous trait of not selling to rivals must stop, when you sell one of the better players the job for that team is to find better players. We did this stuttering thing with sanchez and I fear it cost us this season.

In truth how many people want to buy Ramsay right now, most of the top 5 have decent midfielders, so it is going to be ruff for Ramsey when he leaves an arsenal, no Wenger to safe guard his position in the team

    1. You’re pretty much right Ruelando, the only reason we’ve stood for him for so long is because he became Wenger’s blue eyed boy after beating Ferguson to his Signature.

  17. Personally I see Ramsey as a player with potential to be pivotal in future seasons as a goal scoring midfielder and influence games. It’s been proven a few seasons back with his goals, but the team balance is crucial, with an effective back four and solid dm required to ensure the players that can get the goals being able to anchor further up the pitch. Tearing up the team sheet isn’t required just a solid base of three to four player additions With one as the work horse doing only the basics but doing them well as the dm. Xhaka for me needs to be sold absolutely

    1. It s great to see how people are attacking wenger s boyXhaka just cos he is not from UK but from dark Balkans.
If Ramsey is not from Uk he would now be relegated with Stoke.
Try think about that please and maybe you will understand where wenger s and our problems where in last 10 years.
Wenger is OUT, and if Arsenal should move to a brighter future we must get rid of wengers golden boys.

      1. You silly boy! No one cares less where Xhaka , or any player comes from, and all we care about is if they are good enough. What you are in effect alleging is that Brits are racist and have something against “dark Balkans,”(whatever that means!!!) which as all normal people know full well is just tosh and the utterings of a puerile mind. Yours! People are against Xhakla because he is one paced, reckless, doesn’t see danger and because he is immobile and not at the level any top club needs. Nothing else but football rreasons. Geddit idiot?

  18. Sell to highest bidder no matter, which club that is.
Ramsey won’t really leave a big hole in midfield. We have plenty there.

    1. Yeah, Ramsey is ussualy like a higgs boson. You can t trace damn thing except by interaction it makes with other particles. You can not trace Ramsey on what position and where he plays except by errors he makes. Trace errors and holes in midfield and here you go – ramsey spotting!

  19. Ramsay is a very fine attacking midfielder who would snapped up by a top European side if he became available..He should be offered an improved contract asap.To raise cash for the new Manager, virtually all the players currently on loan should be sold or released.First team players such as Ozil, xhaka, Mustafi should be sold it possible and the offer of a new contract to Wilsh ere should be withdrawn. This is a crucial period for Arsenal when tough decisions have to be made quickly. There is no room for sentiment and sadly we have to accept that the talented Carzola should be given the opportunity to return to Spain.

    1. The one hope for Ramsey is if the new manager/coach relieves him of all defensive duties and plays him in an attacking position. Contrary to what many people believe I don’t think he is a box to box man at all. I firmly believe he wants to be purely an attacking midfielder along the lines of Mkhitaryan.

  20. Sell him to any club. He is no longer good enough for Arsenal.. Many times he disturb the tempo of games which ultimately worked in favour of the opposite sites.
