Should Wenger build his new Arsenal team around Wilshere?

Whether we like it or not there are major changes happening at Arsenal Football Club, quite a lot of it behind the scenes, but there is also big things going on with the team on the pitch. Arsene Wenger has been clearing out the ageing and unwanted misfits and obviously some players have been leaving of their own accord, so we can assume there is a rebuilding program on the agenda.

According to Martin Keown, Wilshere is the future of Arsenal. He said yesterday: “I thought Jack was coming back into the form we expected to see many years ago and I was really pleased to see him with the armband against Chelsea. I’ve said before that Arsene Wenger should build the team around Jack.

“He was taken off with an ankle issue at Stamford Bridge and where he got caught, it’s happened to me and it’s painful. Wenger may not want to take any risks and leave him out against Bournemouth this weekend. It could be sensible.

“It is a worry that he is getting fouled so much. Jack asks questions, he sometimes gets caught and draws tackles. For me, if he makes it in the Arsenal team, then he makes it in the England team. This is as well as I have seen him play in a collection of games ever in an Arsenal shirt.

“He’s been in the engine room, making good tackles, winning the ball, his repertoire of passing, assisting, getting on the scoresheet – he can be the driving force. I just hope his latest injury is nothing serious.”

Thankfully Jack has reassured us that he could even be back before this weekend’s game at Bournemouth, and if he can stay fit and strong, which seems to be the case so far, should Wenger build his new team around the Englishman and make him the permanent captain?

  1. Wilshere as a captain = Yes. Because he can read the game and can show a good example by showing good skills, mentality and work rate in the field (apart from his bad smoking habit, I hope it has ended).

Building a new team around Wilshere = No. Because he is good, but there should a better player that can be the focal point in playmaking, a player that can play like Messi, Neymar and Sanchez.

    1. Team should never be built around an injury prone player either. Should always work off the assumption he won’t be fit.

      1. Agreed, but then manage him well, just because he is on form, dont play him every match damn it. Only EPL/Europa League games, and important ones

  2. JUST IN:Man City have now finally met Arsenal’s asking price of £35m for Alexis Sanchez. He had already agreed terms of £250,000 a week with them but both clubs were struggling to agree a fee.But now the issue has been resolved and he’s free to complete and finalise his move.He is scheduled to have a medical next week.
Arsenal had to take a loan of £20m to keep him which simply means keeping him cost us.
We are seriously looking at Malcolm as a replacement but the player is not so keen due to the fact that we cannot guarantee that one of Ozil or Sanchez will stay. The move may still happen though because money talks. They want £45m for him.

People can say goodbye to Sanchez now. That’s all for now. Will update you on more later.

    1. Hopefully this is true. Bye Alexi if so, thanks but you should of been sold at the beginning of the season.

      1. Theo Walcott will also leave if we accept their £18m offer. We wanted £20m or so but this offer is likely to be accepted.

    2. Noooooooo! If Arsenal want to get Malcom, maybe because they want another French speaking player to communicate better with Lacazette and he is also a left footer.

Why not raid Barcelona players instead? Players like Rafinha, Sergi Roberto and Denis Suarez are so used to play with Barcelona level and have been learning directly from Messi.

Unless Arsenal want to use Malcom, Pavon, Guedes or whoever the new guy would be like how Liverpool use Mane and Salah or how Manchester City use Sterling and Sane, they would regress like Lacazette and Kolasinac.

      1. another one….who the hell is deni suarez!?! …and sergi roberto (good player) or rafinha….common men, not just because they played in barca they are the better players “because they play with messi”…ffs…malcom could be one of the best in comming years…the guys u are naming could be a rakitic max…

    3. Where would we be without you! Is there any news on when we are going to leave Woolwich and move to Highbury? Didn’t see any news about when on Sky Sports but I REALISE YOU ARE WAY AHEAD OF THEM, SO THOUGHT YOU MIGHT KNOW, being the genius you are!

      1. I must admit I did not understand why we would have to borrow money to keep Sanchez when we have £200 mil in the bank.
If @ kev really did have inside information as he has said that Wenger has already said he is leaving at the end of the seaon what I would want to know is when will it be announced?
Until such a time as @ kev has been wrong on things like the Coquelin fee I shall remain a sceptic about his “inside knowledge”

        1. Sorry I mean until @ kev is right some info that I have not already seen on TV or the internet I shall remain a sceptic.

      1. Just like when he claimed we had already bought Lemar but was delaying the announcement or something lmao what happened to that Remember Resource guy? ???

  3. I like Wilshire and his mentality but after years of having bet our hopes on players who were not available as a result of frequent and prolonged injury, it seems too much of a risk IMO to build around Wilshire at this point.

    1. i agree, take away his injury worries he could of been the best English No10 and for shore he would of been playing for Barcelona for the past four years ( we would of sold him for the money )

so lets hope his injury days are behind him and we agree a new contract and he can still be the best English No10

and if now Southgate don’t recall him for the world cup then his insane

  4. Wilshere is one of our most creative players and under no circumstances must we get rid of him. He is loyal and Arsenal through and through which is more than can be said for a lot of our current mercenaries.

If he is managed correctly and learns to release the ball slightly sooner to stop inviting late tackles he can go on to be a legend. That will mean he is less prone to injury and gets less downtime.

  5. Totally agree, if Jack can maintain his fitness & form he should be handed a new contract and the armband on a full time basis.

  6. The invincibles did not
    rely on 1 player.
They had at least 17 top players.
Lehmann Cole Clichy Keown Campbell Touré Lauren
Vieira Gilberto Pirès Ljungberg Parlour Reyes Bergkamp Wiltord Henry Kanu.
Man City have the Silva’s Sane Aguero Jesus KDB Walker Stirling
Stones Danilo Toure Gundogan Fernandinho Mende and probably Sanchez.
Every season we believe we have the” final piece in the puzzle”.
Arshavin would tear the league a new one.
Podolski and Girvinho would rip up the league.
Ozil was to be the savior…
    Xhaka “the wall of steel”.
Mustafi was the master at CB.
Lacazette was going to score 30 league goals.
Now Jack Wilshere is going to win us the league.
    14 years 🙁

  7. No Wenger shouldn’t build a new team around Wilshere! Arsene Wenger should be thinking of retirement never mind building new teams he’s 69 this year come on hes a pensioner we need a new younger fresher manager not an old man who doesn’t know his time is up! He’s already talking about Maintland-Niles being our new defensive enforcer.. the January transfer window penny pinching has begun.

  8. he has to add GOALS and ASSISTS to his game.At this, ramsey ,for example, is better .and he has, above all,TO STAY FIT.

      1. well that would be stupid. He may get fans upset sometimes but Ramsey definitely contributes to the team, and even though he shouldn’t be a starter he’d be an excellent option to rotate with.

  9. As ideal as this sounds, we cannot ‘jump the gun’. Again Wilshere was recently injured and we cannot trust Wenger in regards to the extent of players injuries.

Having said that…there are absolutely no players with the calibre of ‘leader’ in the whole squad.

  10. Should Wenger build his new Arsenal team around Wilshere?…..thats how low our beloved Arsenal have dropped. *Sigh*

  11. We have oziel, a world class assist creator, but wenger never build team around oziel.
We have sanchez, a world class winger goal score, but wenger never built team around sanchez.
We have xhaka, a (world class) long passer and longshot, but wenger put him to dlp and focus to defending, and somehow wenger (force) build team around him…

  12. If Wilshere survives the season and continues playing the way he has then give him the armband this summer. He is arsenal through and through, he works hard and other than Ozil/Cazorla he is our most creative player. Wilshere will make an excellent captain.. innit

We still need to get a couple of top notch players though. A new #10/CAM and either a creative box2box player like Caz or a defensive midfielder. I think central midfield is not up to par. We’ve lost Coquelin. Xhaka and Eleny aren’t good enough.

  13. I don’t know about everyone else but while I agree it is necessary for players like Walcott to leave, it is also sad to see someone that has grown up with the club leave.

It’s a slight glimor of hope for the future if this clear out happens – in that at least Wenger is now acknowledging these players are not good enough and will hopefully bring in better reinforcements

  14. A legitimate and profesional manager never builds his team “around any single player”. This is a stupid and hackneyed phrase that means absolutely nothing and a moments thought will show anyone why. I would ask those who disagree, this question: In a match between MESSI alone and the other ten Barcelona first team starters , who would win? Clue: It will not be MESSI! Any top team needs eleven top players(plus many others in squad) which is so BLINDINGLY OBVIOUS that it is usually overlooked. ONE MAN TEAMS do not exist! Never have, never will! QED! TEAMS WITH ONLY ONE TOP PLAYER and all the others of poor quality are usually relegated. TALK ABOUT NOT SEEING THE WOODS FOR THE TREES!

  15. Wenger should not be building the team around anyone. It won’t be his team next season, he’s history and he is just caretaker manager at present.

  16. Wiltshire is one of the current players a new Manager should retain but the entire spine of the team needs an overhaul. Goalkeeper, centre back and please, an athletic ,ball winning defensive midfielder. With The the spine In place we can revert to a Back four like all the top sides e.g. Barca,Real Madrid Man City etc.
