Do Arsenal really NEED a new striker in January?

The Arsenal transfer rumour mill is slowly getting into gear and building up speed for the full frontal assault that will hit us when the January transfer window is about to open. With a worryingly long injury list hitting the Arsenal squad, many fans will be expecting Arsene Wenger to sign at least one new player to boost the Premier League title challenge.

And with the attacking talents of Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott and the Ox currently out of action, it is that part of the team that a lot of people think the prof will have to strengthen. That is why The Mirror is reporting the latest rumour about the Real Madrid striker Jese Rodriguez as a blow to the Gunners.

The gist of the story is that Arsenal were one of a number of clubs to be keen on taking the young forward, probably on loan, in January as he is not seeing much action for the Spanish club under the reign of Rafa Benitez. The alleged blow is that the Serie A club Napoli have seriously stepped up their interest in Jese, but I do not think this will have any impact on Arsenal.

There is no reason to believe that a club fighting for the EPL title would lose out to Napoli and apart from that, we should have Walcott and the Ox back well before the window opens and Welbeck will be there or thereabouts, so unless we lose any other forwards between now and then, do you really think Wenger will try to get Jese?

  1. We need to strengthen – it is showing how wafer thin we are ATM, by virtue of the fact that we can’t compete in any other competitions than the EPL. Even in attacking midfield, where we have been accused of being overburdened – we are running paper thin, with another injury causing serious problems.

On that subject, maybe our target signings should be more medical staff, Eva anyone?

Please no talk of drawing against the Spuds, we need to win, with Leicester and City on level points. We are not being given much information about Bellerin’s injury – hope it’s not a rib crack from last week, that’s being papered over with a groin injury.

    1. A cracked rib will heal far quicker than a groin injury and much less chance of it becoming a recurring injury.

    2. Did you see Vardy get floored and got up and took the penalty, that had been Walcott Oxy Gibbs Welbeck they would have been out for season. Vardy top of list to get CB

  2. We are quite light, only due to our injury prone players.
I like them all, but eventually to challenge on all fronts we cant be sentimental, we will have send some of them on their way and wish them the best.
Then bring in adequate replacements who are not injury prone.
TBH injuries are our problem every season.

Thumbs up some injury prone players must leave.
Thumbs down give them more time.

    1. Seems logical to strengthen but Wenger will bring injured players back and probably add no one until summer. Same old story

  3. Yeah we badly need a new striker any day any month any year but not any striker we need a good one better than what we have got we need a starter striker not a backup guy i want giroud to be our second choice
And while you are at it bring a RW (salah or pedro would have done the trick)
But back to reality we will get a big zero

  4. Listen Baby Please

We should strengthen in January if possible
It’s very tough to get players in January

I’d be happy with anyone useful tbh
A DM like Krychowiak or mf like Isco or maybe a good striker

Anybody who could push us over the line and help us win the PL would be welcome

  5. You know, the team is lacking ball winners. Even if we got a top quality striker, even against Bayern over two games or Barcelona over two games we will lose, thy will out score us, and out posses us. They have players that keep running around when not on the ball trying to win it back quickly as possible.

The only way we got the ball vs Bayern was from one of their bad passes or somewhere in our own third where the defenders have to make the tackle. Chelsea won UCL by defending, Arsenal can never be like that over a whole competition, it is not the arsenal way either anyway.

A top striker in January will ensure we win the league, but for the UCL we will need a fitter team on top of a minimum of 2 to 3 signings. We need more ball winners.

  6. YES YES YES Arsenal should have bought a striker in the summer transfer window.
If Wenger does not buy a Striker in January he should be sacked.
