Sutton v Arsenal FA cup review – Walcott’s ton helps Gunners get job done

The main thing for Arsenal to get done today was to reach the quarter-finals of the FA cup, which we did, against the National League club Sutton United who were really keeping the magic of the cup alive after beating Leeds United in the last round.

Iyt was not a spectacular performance with Arsenal at our free flowing best but in these sort of games, and on an artificial pitch to boot, I never really expected it to be. What I had worried about was the Arsenal players not putting in the hard work and being focused but I have to say that they did that in what could have been another nightmare after the Bayern Munich beating.

The Gunners were professional and we played some good stuff at times, especially in the second half after Lucas Perez scored a 27th minute opening goal. The fact that Oxlade-Chsamberlain played the second half instead of Elneny who got a knock, along with the Sutton players tiring, raised the attacking threat.

Walcott finished well to score the only other goal which made it 100 Arsenal goals for the flying forward and we had chances to score more. Then again the home team had some chances as well and with a bit more luck or composure to finish it could have been tough for us. Deacon especially came so close by crashing a shot off the bar.

As it was, Wenger and the players did their job and got through to the next round. Lincoln City next and then the semi-final.

  1. what to say good win now i think Wenger is working miracle with these players i have seen enough new manager won’t make a deferenced we need new players lb lw center forward goal keeper dm number ten

  2. May I take this opportunity to salute the arsenal fans who went to cheer the team tonight. To me that was great.

      1. Who’s saying everything is alright? Arsenal were in a no win situation tonight. They won, played properly without trying to be too clever and now have a home quarter final. I bet there were a lot of so called Arsenal fans hoping they would come unstuck tonight.

  3. Well,I feel mentally disturbed after watching that ?
I’m trying to figure out what effected me the most,
The ? hole stadium + pitch,
    Our teams overall performance,
The way our players and Wenger celebrated the goals,
The Big Fat slob standing in the Sutton dug out with the triple double D cup, munching on a king sized Rat bagel and slobbering all over the poor sub beneath him ? I bet he was their Physio ?
Oh and the way the scavenging Pikeys ran on to the pitch at the final whistle, what a memorable family night out that must have been for them, I’m surprised they didn’t start a bonfire in the centre circle.?

  4. AM SURE EVERY ARSENAL FAN WANTS US TO WIN AND WE ALL KNOW WHY SOME FANS WANT US TO LOSE!!! GIVING WENGER ANOTHER CHANCE IS A WASTE OF TIME, WALCOTT WONT BECOME THE FINISHED PLAYER WE ALL HOPED HE WILL BECOME, RAMSEY ISNT GOING TO TURN TO XAVI, SANOGO ISNT GOING TO START BANGING IN GOALS LIKE LEWANDOWSKI AND THE LIST GOES ON.. SO WHY IS THE BOARD AND STAN STAN STILL KEEPING QUIET? MAYBE TILL AFTER THE SEASON, WELL AM TIRED I CANT TALK ABOUT SOCCER AMONG MY FRIENDS COS THEY KEEP REMINDING ME OF OUR FAILINGS.. I CURRENTLY LIVE IN JAPAN THE TIME DIFFERENCE IS ABOUT 8-9HR, SO I STAY AWAKE JUST TO WATCH OUR MATCHES AND SOMETIMES AFTER WATCHING THE MATCHES I FEEL LIKE CRYING.. HOW LONG WILL WENGER AND HIS PLAYERS CONTINUE TO CAUSE ME SO MUCH PAIN?

    1. I am a Japanese gunner and I can relate to you; the time difference is always the problem. I woke up 5 am to watch the match against Bayern live, and my day was completely destroyed.

And there is no TV coverage for FA cup here. I wish I could have watched Lucaz play entirety, which is very rare.

  5. Credit where credit is due. These types of games can be tricky for any PL team. We won, we did what we were supposed to do. It means nothing for the next game against Liverpool, it means a lot for stabilizing the ship for now.
