When you hear that Arsenal are one of the clubs linked with a striker that scored more goals in the group stages of the Champions League last season than any other player, with a stunning nine goals from just six games, most Arsenal fans would start rubbing their hands together with anticipation.
There have been many Arsenal transfer rumours linking the Gunners with a move for Porto’s Jackson Martinez after Arsene Wenger sang his praiseslast month, but the fact that there is a reported £29.5million transfer fee involved for a striker that will turn 29 this year makes it very unlikely that Wenger would be interested.
Now it is official that Arsenal have definitely failed to replace the goalscoring prowess that Van Persie provided last season, and with the disappointing Olivier Giroud as the only out-and-out centre-forward in the side (unless you count Chamakh!), it is clear that Wenger must now dig deeply to bring a proven hitman to the Emirates in January.
So it is finally confirmed that Cesc Fabregas will be staying at Arsenal next season, and the Catalan club have instead arranged to sign the Brazilian midfielder Adriano from Sevilla instead.
The new Barca president Sandro Rosell has finally understood that Arsenal will not let Fabregas leave cheaply (if at all) and have decided to go for the cheaper option of taking Adriano.
