After Emmanuel Frimpong survived a mass clear out by Arsenal of players who were surplus to requirements, it seemed like the Ghanaian born midfielder had a future with the club. When you consider that his playing position of defensive midfielder is one of the least well covered in the Arsenal squad, then this season promised a lot for the 21-year old.

Arsenal decided to let go off a lot of the players classed as ‘deadwood’ this summer, whether that be by selling them, loaning them or even releasing them in the case of Denilson, Arshavin and Squillaci, however I think one name that we were all quite surprised to see go out of the door was Francis Coquelin.
The Arsenal under-21 side were in action last night at the Emirates, and they put in an impressive performance to beat a strong West Brom side by 1 – 0. The goal was a stunning volley from the young German player Serge Gnabry, and it may just have booked him a seat on the coach going up to Sunderland for the Premier League game tomorrow.
