One man who knows Olivier Giroud well but will not be pleased at the striker hitting form at Arsenal is Rene Girard, the manager of Montpellier. Girard is well aware of what Giroud can do, as he helped make him the player he is. Girard is hoping that his extensive knowledge of Giroud will help him to prepare Montpellier to stop the Arsenal front man from scoring, but he doesn’t sound overly optimistic.
Arsenal could consider themselves lucky to come away from Montpellier with all three points last night after the French side launched a second hlaf onslaught on Vito Mannone’s goal, especially when Younes Belhanda, who had early scored a cool penalty, froze with the ball at his feet just two yards from the goal-line.
Montpellier have had a terrible start to their defence of the first French title in the club’s history, losing three of the first five. This has caused mass optimism in the Arsenal ranks but we should be wary of the French champions on their home soil tonight.

The 3-1 defeat to newly-promoted Reims this weekend has destroyed whatever confidence they had remaining and they are now scared to death of facing an in-form Arsenal side.
